  • Really new products (RNPs) provide novel benefits yet many consumers are reluctant to accept these highly innovative new products. Previous literature has shown that mental simulation is an effective method for enhancing the evaluation of RNPs. However, Castano et al. (2008) and Zhao, Hoeffler, and Zauberman (2011) demonstrate conflicting results as to which type of mental simulation (i.e., process versus outcome) is more effective for the enhancement of RNP evaluation. The authors try to reconcile these results by incorporating a moderating variable which is personal need for structure (PNS). PNS is an individual difference variable that taps the differences in people's propensity to cognitively structure and simplify their environment (Neuberg and Newsom 1993). From the analysis of the previous two works, the authors point out that consumers' susceptibility to uncertainty may contribute to the different results, and suggest that this susceptibility is dependent on consumers' PNS. To test the hypotheses established, an experiment was conducted. Waterless washing machine was presented as a RNP and PNS was measured by using the 12-item PNS Scale (Thompson et al. 2001). The results of the study show that for high-PNS consumers, process simulation is more effective than outcome simulation for enhancing the evaluation of a RNP, whereas for low-PNS consumers, outcome simulation is more effective than process simulation. This research contributes to the mental simulation and new product literature by suggesting and verifying that PNS moderates the effects of process versus outcome simulations for enhancing the evaluation of RNPs. This research provides important managerial implications for marketing managers of RNPs, indicating that they should take account of the target consumers' PNS in planning marketing communications. Specifically, when targeting high-PNS consumers, marketing communications that encourage process simulation may be more effective than those that encourage outcome simulation. In contrast, when targeting low-PNS consumers, marketing communications that encourage outcome simulation may be more effective than those that encourage process simulation.

  • This study explores the effect of the properties of digital infra on customer participation to explain how customers' initiatives impact the marketing process in the digital environment. Also the effect of the accumulated information through customers' information sharing on their initiatives in the marketing activities can be discovered. These effects can be better understood by developing comprehensive model and employing large sample empirical test. Study1 identifies the properties of digital infra which overcomes the limitations of off-line environment in customers' participation - Information openness, connectedness, community interaction and structure clarity - and how these properties activate customers' participation in the marketing process. Study2 shows the process structure of reverse marketing activities in the digital environment. These findings deliver the fact that customers' initiatives in the marketing activities will be accepted generally under the digital environment. Consequently, this study suggests some managerial implications for completely different marketing strategies in response to customers' initiatives in the marketing activities under the digital environment.

  • Conventional marketing research generally focuses on a single layer's benefit. A notable example is the consumer layer providing managers with partial market information to evaluate relevant strategies. As generally known, marketing management encounters complex supply and demand behaviors, thereby necessitation that a successful marketing strategy adopt multi-layer considerations, such as the consumer layer, channel-retailer layer, and marketing planner layer. In light of above situation, this study applies fuzzy theory and the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) technique to analyze the performances of marketing strategies under multi-layer benefits, In addition, conventional marketing research has difficulty in efficiently allocating the limited budget so that each desired criterion can be significantly enhanced by a group of events. Therefore, a weighting structure among the goal, layers, criteria, and strategies(i.e. a group of events) is also developed herein to trace the influential process and assist marketing managers in efficiently allocating resources(i.e.budget).

  • Recently, layer industry shows the decrease in the number of farm and increase in rearing scale in both Korea and Japan. Seventy percent of layer farms in Japan feed more than 50,000 birds per each farm but in Korea, only 19.3% of layer farms are feeding more than 30,000 birds which covers 59% of total chicken number. This tendeney will be more accellerated from now on. Brand egg Production in Japan is developed with the involvement of farmers, sailers feed companies and also the marketing structure of brand egg is well organised in between farmers and consumers. However in Korea, the marketing structure of brand egg is not well settled for this reason the egg price is often decided lower much price than regrnlar price by the intermediate dealers. Under this kind of tough situation, Korean layer farmers are stressed to develop new brand products such as functional egg, settle the sales and distribution network with the good cooperation of farmers, and distributers.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the market structure and price formation status of imported log from overseas which has leadership of timber price decision mechanism in Korea. The results obtained are as follows; 1) The 53 percents of the total 134 log importing companies are the small scale companies which import less than ten thousand cubic meters per year, and are mainly aimed to do agent task of importing log. 2) The market structure of imported log formed high level 01 oligopolistic structure, but did not make excess profit of oligopoly because of excess import. 3) The bargaining power of Korea on the price decision process in the overseas log exporting market is very weak, because the market has the bilateral oligopoly structure, and the non-systematic importing behavior of Korean log importing companies make the bargaining power of Korea more weak. 4) It is analyzed that Korean domestic marketing system is comperatively simple, but reasonable marketing system is not established because of the disorder of the marketing behavior. From the results obtained above, it is proposed that the government has to establish the general institutional system to control the supply-demand and marketing problems of imported log, in order to establish the rational structure of market and price decision system of imported log.
