A Study on the Globalization Policy of the Korean Nuclear Industry (원자력 산업의 세계화 추진 방안)

  • The Republic of Korea is actively constructing and operating nuclear power plants and will maintain the nuclear energy program in spite of the current stagnation of nuclear industries in advanced countries. The significant role of Korea in the world economy is well recognized as Korea became a member of OECD. The Korean economy is rated as the eleventh largest in the world. Korea is a very important customer in the world nuclear market and is also regarded as a potential future supplier. However, the domestic and international environment for globalization of the Korean nuclear industry is not well established. This is mainly due to the past nuclear policy which has emphasized technological self-reliance with less attention to the international politics and trading. Under this background, this paper suggests the strategies for promoting the nuclear trade and expanding the influence in the decision making process of international nuclear community.

  • $CO_2$ reduction, energy security, and emission reduction are the critical issues in the current automotive industry. As one of the solutions to these issues, Battery Electric Vehicle is attracting attention recently. Advanced battery electric drive vehicle require batteries, power electronics and electrical machines to function. These devices allow the vehicle to use energy from the battery to assist in the propulsion of the vehicle. In this paper, the main feature of these technologies are briefly introduced and recent trends of patent applications are described.

Performance and Emission Characteristics of a DI Diesel Engine Operated with LPG/DME Blended Fuel (LPG/DME 혼합연료를 사용하는 직접분사식 디젤 엔진의 부분부하 성능 및 배기특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, LPG-blended DME fuel was experimentally investigated in CI(compression ignition) engine. In particular, performance, emissions characteristics (including hydrocarbon, CO, and NOx emissions), and combustion stability of engine fueled with LPG-blended DME fuel were examined. The extent of LPG fuel in the blended fuel was 0-40 wt%. Results showed that stable engine operation was possible in a wide range of engine loads on DME blended with maximum 30% of LPG by mass in a CI engine. Considering the results of the engine power output and exhaust emissions, blended fuel up to 30% of LPG by mass can be used as an alternative to diesel in a CI engine. LPG blended DME fuel is expected to have potential for enlarging the DME market.

  • This paper aims at exploring the efficiencies of Big 3 Multiplexes(CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox) in Korea over the 3 years between 2002 and 2004. For the Korean Film industry, the years 1998 over were a period of challenge and extreme transaction due to building of multiplex that began in 1998. This paper begins with the present state of film market and multiplexes in Korea and provides an overview of the reasons why Korea film industry have been sharply increased in customer growth. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the film industry competition power for multiplex according to the technical and scale efficiency scores of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) method.

  • We, Tong Yang Moolsan Co. Ltd. (TYM) set up the mass-production system for virus-free seed garlic via tissue culture technique. TYM's tissue culture technique is called as 'Multiple shoot propagation technique'. This technique can lead mass propagation of genetically homogeneous seed garlic in a short period because of its highly proliferation rate of in vitro shoots ($15^{10}$ /year). TYM researchers applied the technique to some selected garlic cultivars with superior characteristics and carried out field test of productivity in the inside and outside of the country for several years. According to the yearly results of field test with virus-free seed garlic, we ascertained that virus-free seed garlic can produce the highly yield increase (max. above $50\%$) and also can enhance the product quality. Consequently, we estimated that TYM's seed garlic will contribute to farmers with increase of income and can elevate the national position of garlic market in the world for its competitive power of technical and production cost.

  • Automatic nut sorting machine used to calculate the size of inserted nut and detect the black spot defection is introduced in this paper. Because most of farm products are imported from the underdeveloped countries, domestic farm products have no place to be sold in market. To overcome this critical situation, lowering the productivity cost is strongly demanded to compete with foreign corps. Imaged processed nut sorting algorithm is developed to the automatic nut sorting machine to remove the sorting time which takes lots of man power. This system is composed of mainly two parts, mechanical parts and vision system. The purpose of mechanical part is supplying the nuts automatically to make computer system capture the images of objects. Simplified mechanical system was assembled followed by 3D simulation by Pro/E design for the adaptive cost effects. Several image processing algorithms are designed to detect the spot defects and calculate the size of nuts. Test algorithm shows good results to the designed automatic nut sorting system.

  • Nowadays in Korea, there has been extreme competition due to market reduction in the domestic construction industry. As a result every company try to change rapidly to secure competitive power, Although it isn't betterment for the way of construction project management then there has many problem such as a delay of the appointed date of delivery and go over the budget. In this study, we suggest an introduction of CCPM which is based on TOC to construction projects.

  • In order to build up competitive power in construction market and to cope with international policy, Design-Build bidding is one of the viable bidding system, encouraging collaboration between design office and building construction firm. Design-Build is a promising delivery system to help expediting schedules, saving costs, and improving Quality. However, the problems of Design-Build project in the domestic construction industry are not to be able to take advantages of fast-tracking and value engineering process, because of the problems of inappropriate system and participants' inexperience. The purpose of this study is to suggest alternatives for Design-Build bidding of public sector in the domestic construction industry in the costs, quality and time aspect.

  • As far as we handle industrial products, the painting process is prerequisite; and the preparatory treatment of materials is, therefore, indispensable to the above process. However, it is a matter for regret that people are liable to overlook the importance the treatment of materials at the preparatory stage, giving themselves up to the surface of finished goods. The preparatory treatment of materials is like backstage personnel (operations) in dramatic performance; the performance cannot be successful without the support of backstage operations in surface treatment. The various methods which are being applied widely as preparatory treatment are as follow: (1) the method by using hand tools such as grinders, etc. (2) the method with blasting (3) the method with chemical coating (4) the method by getting rid of fatty substance with organic solvent The methods No. 1 and No. 2 are in use mainly for larger structures, and those No. 3 and No. 4, either singly or combined, are applied for mass-produced, smaller items (acid cleaning is applied for getting rid of rust, as the case may be). The method No. 3 is used mainly as anti-rust by forming zinc phosphate film on the surface of steel plate or enhancing the bonding power of paints by taking advantage of irregular surfaces of films. Recently are no the market steel plates treated directly with film-coating by omitting the process No. 3. Furthermore, those goods painted include not only nonferrous goods but plastics and elastomer. The present discourse describes the cleaning process by using the steam of organic acid, picked up from among No. 4, and its equipment applied.

  • Electronic commerce includes the tasks that support the buying and selling of goods and services, and interactions among those tasks. Electronic commerce enables companies to close stores, reduce inventory requirements, and distribute products over the internet. Electronic commerce can simplify communication and change relationships The expanding global e-marketplace has triggered an evolution with powerful implications. The introduction of interactive media and the online environment has made real-time, customized one-to-one advertising, marketing and commerce possible. I-marketing is the most rapidly growing channel being explored today. Users of this expanding medium include a range of service providers, publishers, marketers of music, s/w, other products that cross an increasing number of industry lines. Thus, the opportunities for e-business marketing strategy, and new businesses based on interactivity and sophisticated database technology are vast. This study explores the e-business marketing strategy of digital age. Strategic e-marketing can harness the power of today's technology to propel a company of any size farther into the worldwide market than ay any other time in history, increasing potential profits and productivity.
