A Study on Cost Comparison between AMP and Bunker fuel (선박의 육상전력과 선박연료비용 비교분석에 관한 연구)

  • Lately, various nations including the U.S. and China aim to decrease air pollutants in port areas. As the number of vessels as ports increases, the volume of cargo and air pollutants emitted from vessels are also increasing. Therefore, the social responsibility of port construction, shipping companies and terminal operators is becoming important. Alternate Maritime Power(AMP) is an anti-pollution measure which helps in reducing air pollution generated from diesel generators by using shore electric power. This study compares the AMP tariff and Bunk Fuel tariff at berth in order to determine how to operate an efficient offshore power supply facility in Gwangyang Port.

Statistical Analysis of Maritime Traffic Volume at Manila Bay, Philippines (필리핀 마닐라만의 해양 교통량 통계분석)

  • Manila Bay is home to the Port of Manila with three harbors: North Harbor, South Harbor and MICT(Manila International container Terminal). There is an adjacent fishing port to the north and another port across the Bay, the Limao Port. This study focuses on the volume of traffic movement in the Bay area taken from Manila VTMS raw data of the arrival and departure movements only. It is a two-year period of study of 2010 and 2011 traffic volume. It divides the data according to their numbers; to their sizes measured in gross tons; to the time of vessels' movements, whether daytime or night-time; and to each voyage trade: domestic or foreign. Quantitative values are calculated from the raw data based on the whole population of the two-year period. The results are illustrated by tables and graphs. Statistical measures are applied to determine the spread and frequencies of the data and test any significance from the hypotheses. These are shown in the tabulated form and interpreted to give a better picture of the frequency and volume of traffic. In the end, a summary is offered where it is hoped that this paper will propel further studies of improving the safety behavior in the premier port of the country.

  • Introduction of wave model, considered the effect of shoaling, refraction, diffraction, partial reflection, bottom friction, breaking at the coastal waters of complex bathymetry, is a very important factor for most coastal engineering design and disaster prevention problems. As waves move from deeper waters to shallow coastal waters, the fundamental wave parameters will change and the wave energy is redistributed along wave crests due to the depth variation, the presence of islands, coastal protection structures, irregularities of the enclosing shore boundaries, and other geological features. Moreover, waves undergo severe change inside the surf zone where wave breaking occurs and in the regions where reflected waves from coastline and structural boundaries interact with the incident waves. Therefore, the application of mild-slope equation model in this field would help for understanding of wave transformation mechanism where many other models could not deal with up to now. The purpose of this study is to form a extended mild-slope equation wave model and make comparison and analysis on variation of harbor responses in the vicinities of Pohang Old Harbor and Pohang New Port, etc. due to construction of New Port in Youngil Bay. This type of trial might be a milestone for port development in macroscale, where the induced impact analysis in the existing port due to the developemnt could be easily neglected.

A Case Study of Automation Management System of Damaged Container in the Port Gate (항만 게이트의 데미지 컨테이너 관리 자동화 시스템 구축 사례연구)

  • As container vessels get larger, container terminals are also likely to grow. The problem that arises is that the growing volume should be handled in the same amount of time as before. Container terminals are introducing an automation system in order to overcome the limitations of existing manual methods and to continuously reduce operating expenses. Because, Manual handling of carrying containers gate in and out of terminals causes inaccurate data, which results in confusion. An alternative is for containers to be labeled with barcodes that can be scanned into a system with a scanner, but this takes quite a long time and is inconvenient. A RFID system, also known as a gate automation system, can solve these problems by reducing the time of gate management with a technology that detects number identification plates, helping operators more efficiently perform gate management work. Having said that, with this system, when container damage is detected, gate operators make and keep documents manually. These documents, which are insufficient evidence in proving container damage, result in customer claims. In addition, it is difficult for gate operators and other workers to manage containers, exposing them to danger and accidents. This study suggests that if an automation system is introduced at gates, containers can be managed by a video storage system in order to better document damage The video system maintains information on container damage, allowing operators the ability to search for videos they need upon customer request, also allowing them to be better prepared for customer claims. In addition, this system reduces necessary personnel and risk of accidents near gates by integrating a wide range of work.

  • Since Emma Maersk, which is a container vessel capable of holding a freight capacity of 11,000 TEU, was launched early last year, the appearance of the ULCS (Ultra Large Container Ship) will be expected in 5 years. That requires the high productivity, the high technology, the automation, and the high efficiency in port operations. GTO (Global Terminal Operator) and port equipment companies are striving for the prior occupation of the port market and the development of the port technology. Within the country, however, there has been few systematic, analytic, and detailed technology road map, and the effective execution of the development policy for the port technology and the activation of port industries has not been achieved. In this study, we deduces the development subject of the domestic port technology and analyzes the priority of them. In conclusion, we establishes the macro technology road map and the product-related road map for container ports in Korea.

Estimation of Berthing Velocity Using Probability Distribution Characteristics in Tanker Terminal (확률분포 특성을 이용한 탱커부두에서의 선박접안속도 예측값 추정)

  • Berthing energy is majorly influenced by the berthing velocity. It is necessary to design an appropriate berthing velocity for each pier, since excessive berthing velocity can cause berthing accident causing damage to the ship and pier. In this study, as a statistical approach for berthing velocity, the probability distributions suitable for the berthing velocities were confirmed using the K-S test, the A-D test and the Q-Q plot. As a result, the frequency distribution of the berthing velocity was found to be suitable using the Weibull distribution as well as the lognormal distribution. Additionally, the predicted values obtained through estimation of the berthing velocity using the concept of probability of exceedance in this study is proposed as a reference of design berthing velocity. It can be observed that the design berthing velocity is set to be somewhat low so that it does not practically match with the reality. This study and its results can be expected to contribute to the development of a proper design velocity calculation method.

A Study on Productivity and Efficiency Comparative Analysis of Container Terminal (국내 항만배후단지 효율성 및 생산성 비교 분석)

  • Port distripark can activate more functions. It is adjacent to a port. However, domestic port distripark is still limited to support port because of the shortage of infrastructure facilities, government policy, and investment. Therefore, this study tried to investigate the operation status of domestic port distripark and derive policy implications by conducting DEA analysis and productivity analysis based on internal data of each port distripark. As a result of Data Envelopment analysis, it was found that the west port distripark of Gwangwang and the northern port distripark of Incheon were efficient in the warehouse industry while the northern port distripark of Incheon and the Ulsan 1 port distripark were efficient in the manufacturing industry. In addition, in the case of foreign investment productivity, the west side port distripark of Gwangyang and the stage 1 port distripark of Pyeongtaek Dangjin were found to be higher than the others. In the case of facility investment productivity, the port distripark on the west side of Gwangyang and the north side of Incheon had the highest productivity. Lastly, in the case of labor productivity, the north side of Incheon and Busan ungdong port distripark showed the highest productivity. These results imply that it is important to review handling item when picking up enterprises in the port distripark for enhancing efficiency, foreign investment, and facility investment. The number of employees is not directly affecting the productivity improvement.

  • The radio communications by SSB and VHF transceivers are still used very efficiently in coast stations. The SSB and VHF equipments are very important to transmit and receive informations in the sea and the land. The communication system by the conventional SSB and VHF transceivers between a coast station and a terminal is an one-to-one system. In this dissertation, however, the conventional one-to-one system is expanded to one-to-multiple systems. Then, frequencies can be used effectively for distress, urgency, safety traffic. In addition, one to multi-number systems can be used to interrupt. When the ICS equipments are set up to the VHF transceiver. It is possible to communicate with ship in far distance the communication range can be enlarged. The line switching system by the ICS is to be remote-controlled by ASK modulated PTT signals and audio signals. An ICS can change a connection between terminal and transceiver through a circuit switching system at any time. For this purpose, the author has researched and developed a ASK transmission system, ICS system, control algorithm, multiprocessor system, and monitoring system. As a conclusion, the developed line switching control systems and equipments can be used effectively for maritime communication, military communication, fishery communication, etc.

Simulation Model Development for Configuring a Optimal Port Gate System (최적 항만 게이트 시스템 구성을 위한 시뮬레이션 모델 개발)

  • In this study, a gate simulation model was developed to reduce the truck waiting time for trucking companies servicing container terminals. To verify the developed model, 4 weeks of truck gate-in/gate-out data was collected in December 2014 at the Port of Busan New Port. Also, the existing gate system was compared to the proposed gate system using the developed simulation model. The result showed that based on East gate-in, a maximum number of 50 waiting trucks with a maximum waiting time of 120 minutes. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 10 with a maximum waiting time of 5.3 minutes. Based on West gate-in, the maximum number of waiting trucks was 17 and the maximum waiting time was 34 minutes in the existing gate system. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 10 with a maximum waiting time of 5.3 minutes. Based on West gate-out, the maximum number of waiting trucks was 11 with a maximum waiting time of 5.5 minutes. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 9 with a maximum waiting time of 4.4 minutes. This developed model shows how many waiting trucks there are, depending on the gate-in/gate-out time of each truck. This system can be used to find optimal gate system operating standards by assuming and adjusting the gate-in/gate-out time of each truck in different situations.

Process Design of Trimming to Improve the Sheared-Edge of the Vehicle Door Latch based on the FE Simulation and the Taguchi Method (유한요소해석 및 다구찌법을 이용한 자동차 도어 래치의 전단면 품질 향상을 위한 트리밍 공정 설계)

  • Automobile door latch is a fine design and assembly techniques are required in order to produce them in a small component assembly shape such as a spring, injection products, a small-sized motor. The door latch is fixed to not open the door of the car plays an important role it has a direct impact on the driver's safety. In this study, during trimming of the terminals of the connector main components of the car door latch, reduce rollover and conducted a research to find a suitable effective shear surface. Using the Taguchi method with orthogonal array of Finite Element Analysis and optimal Design of Experiments were set up parameters for the shear surface quality of the car door latch connector terminals. The design parameters used in the analysis is the clearance, the radius, and the blank holding force, the material of the connector terminal is a C2600. Trimming process optimum conditions suggested by the analysis has been verified by experiments, the shear surface shape and dimensions of a final product in good agreement with forming analysis results.Taguchi method from the above results in the optimization for the final rollover and effective shear surface improved for a vehicle door latch to the connector terminal can be seen that the applicable and useful for a variety of metal forming processes other than the trimming process is determined to be applicable.
