  • Several methods have been applied to detect winding faults (turn-to-turn short). The representative approaches have been focusing on current signals. The current signal can give important information to extract features and to detect faults. In this study, current sensors were installed to measure signals for fault detection of BLDC motors. Therefore, it is necessary to select proper feature extraction methods among the popular methods that use current signals.

  • Experiments have been conducted to determine heat transfer characteristics for a two-dimen-sional turbulent wall attaching offset jet at different oblique angles to a flat surface. The local Nusselt number distributions were measured using liquid crystal as a temperature sensor. Wall static pressure coefficient profiles were measured at the Reynolds number Re 53200(based on the nozzle width, D) the offset ratio H/D from 2.5 to 10 and the oblique angle a from $0^{\circ}$, to $40^{\circ}$ It is observed that the maximum Nusselt number point occurs slightly upstream of time-averaged reattachment point for all oblique angles. The correlations between the maximum Nusselt number and Reynolds number offset ration and oblique angle are presented.

  • There is an accelerating need for ocean sensing where autonomous vehicles can play a key role in assisting engineers, researcher and scientists with environmental monitoring and collecting oceanographic data. This paper is performed to develops an autonomous sailing drone to be used as a sensor carrying platform for autonomous data acquisition at Sea. From a sailing drone design viewpoint, it is important to establish reliable prediction methods for sailing drone's resistance. The required power for the propulsion unit depends on the ship resistance and speed. There are three solutions for the prediction of ship resistance as follow analytical methods, model tests in tanks and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The present paper aims at simulating sailing drone friction resistance using numerical method. The dynamic mesh motion is used to describe the sailing drone movement.

  • This study represents the result of corrosion monitoring on reinforced concrete specimens by means of multi-functional corrosion monitoring sensors. To confirm the effectiveness of the sensors, eight different kinds of condition were adopted. Test factors were corrosion potential, current, corrosion rate, resistivity, and temperature, which were monitored with the sensors. Through this study, judging corrosion of steel in concrete with single corrosion factor such as corrosion potential was difficult, because many other factors can have an influence on the reaction of corrosion. By using three different kinds of sensors, it could enhance the accuracy of corrosion monitoring.

  • Recent Internet Service Environment has been moved to provide geographic information based on location as well as existent various information. In this paper, we develop an integrated software connecting GIS information to Internet. In the other hand, in GIS S/W, it is important that rapid output of Digital Map and effective trnasmission of specified Digital Map about moving area. To achieve the purpose, we propose a reduced digital format to diminish original digital maps. Also, we develop a GIS-based software engine with functions connecting location information to URL as well as map viewer and map handling. Futhermore, our developed GIS S/W is based Module in LBS application using GPS sensor.

  • This presents a motion and force estimation system of human fingers by using an Electromyography (EMG) sensor module and a data glove system to be proposed in this paper. Both EMG sensor module and data glove system are developed in such a way to minimize the number of hardware filters in acquiring the signals as well as to reduce their sizes for the wearable. Since the onset of EMG precedes the onset of actual finger movement by dozens to hundreds milliseconds, we show that it is possible to predict the pattern of finger movement before actual movement by using the suggested system. Also, we are to suggest how to estimate the grasping force of hand based on the relationship between RMS taken EMG signal and the applied load. Finally we show the effectiveness of the suggested estimation system through several experiments.

  • To detect harmful chemical substances in seawater, we fabricated a prototype sensor and evaluated its performance. The prototype sensor consisted of a detector, housing, and driving circuit. We built the detector by printing an Indium-Tin-Oxide (ITO) nanoparticle film on a flexible substrate, and it had two detection parts for simultaneous detection of temperature and HNS concentration. The housing connected the detector and the driving circuit and was made of Teflon material to prevent chemical reactions that may affect sensor performance. The driving circuit supplied electric power, and display measured data using a bridge circuit and an Arduino board. We evaluated the sensor performances such as response (ΔR), the limit of detection (LOD), response time, and errors to confirm the specification.

  • Moored floating platforms have great potential in ocean engineering applications because a mooring system is necessary to keep the platform in station, which is directly related to the operational efficiency and safety of the platform. This paper briefly introduces the technical and operational details of an optical sensor for measuring the tension of mooring lines of a moored platform in waves. In order to check the performance of optical sensors, an experiment with a moored floating platform in waves is carried out in the wave tank at Changwon National University. The experiment is performed in regular waves and irregular waves with a semi-submersible and triangle platform. The performance of the optical sensor is confirmed by comparing the results of the tension of the mooring lines by the optical sensor and tension gauges. The maximum tension of the mooring lines is estimated to investigate the mooring dynamics due to the effect of the wave direction and wavelength in the regular waves. The significant value of the tension of mooring lines in various wave directions is estimated in the case of irregular waves. The results show that the optical sensor is effective in measuring the tension of the mooring lines.

  • In this paper, NMEA based Parser programming for Smart-phone was designed at a GPS receiver. The design scheme for Map API and sensor web services was designed according to the Google Map API standards that the position values of NMEA sentences were changed due to XML files. As a result of interfaces between GPS NMEA sentences of Smart-phone and Google Map API, it is possible that real time visual positioning sensor web services about the Google Map mapping from a GPS receiver could be worked on web sever.

  • Recently, NMEA2000 became the de facto standard of the communication protocol for the instrument level network in vessels, and it is anticipated that most of the vessels will be equipped with the sensors and actuators based on this protocol. The conventional serial communication specifications such as RS-232, RS-485, or even NMEA0183 are single-talker/multiple-listener and interconnection among multiple sensors and/or actuators usually results in a bundle of wires. On the other hand, NMEA2000 is a true bus type(multiple-talker/multiple-listener) protocol and theoretically up to 256 instruments can be hot-plugged. With the advent of the protocol, it is necessary to consider a new type of monitoring system for the instruments in vessels: In most traditional serial communication environments, a dedicated monitor or user interface was necessary for each sensor or actuator as it was simply not easy to collect data in a single place. With NMEA2000, the collection of various types of information is simple. An embedded system can be employed to combine, to arrange and to display informations from various types of devices. Assuming that the actuators and sensors on a vessel are interconnected by NMEA2000 standard, we devise a tentative interactive vessel monitoring system in which the following 4 kinds of informations are collected and delivered: the navigation, engine, weather and tanks informations.
