  • The purposes of the present study were to investigate the factors of consumer dissatisfaction with backpacks and to examine if the levels of dissatisfaction with the factors differ significantly among the groups determined by demographic characteristics and purchase behaviors. The differences in the purchase behaviors of backpacks were also tested among the groups determined by demographic characteristics. Data collection was consisted of two pilot tests and the final test. The questionnaire was distributed to 40 students of universities in Seoul from July 1 to 13 in 2000 and 351 were usable. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, χ²analysis, MANOVA, ANAOVA, Duncan's multiple range tests using SPSS PC/sup +/ Program. Five factors were formulated : durability, ease-of-care/color fastness, dimensional stability, wearability and design. Subjects were most dissatisfied with the dimensional stability of backpacks. Different demographic characteristics and purchase behaviors resulted in significantly different levels of dissatisfaction with selected factors. Significant differences were also found in selected selection criteria and purchase behaviors among groups determined by some demographic characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study was a compare analysis on the counseling of testing and interview for problem of adolescent. The subjects were 20 adolescents who had randomly assigned to an experimental group(10) and a control group(10). To obtain the data, relation of counseling, awareness of self, motivation of self, identity of career questionaries were used. To analyze data, ANCOVA, MANOVA were executed. The results were follows. First, the counseling of testing affected significantly on improvement of experimental group's awareness of self, motivation of self. Second, the counseling of testing affected significantly on improvement of experimental group's identity of career.

  • The present study investigated the differences in thinking styles and critical thinking dispositions between elementary school and secondary school pre-service teachers. For this research, 295 college students were selected. The subjects completed the Thinking Styles Inventory(TSI) and the California Critical Thinking Dispositions Inventory(CCTDI). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and MANOVA. The results of this study were as follows: First, there were not statistically significant differences by group in the thinking styles(Type I and Type II). Second, there were statically significant differences according to group in the CCTDI. In this result, secondary school pre-service teachers had higher scores than female students in self-confidence sub-scale of CCTDI.

  • This study explored the perceptions of Korean college women concerning their clothing deprivation and clothing decision factors. A convenience sample was used consisting of 101 female college students aged from 18 to 36 years, with a mean age of 20.78 (SD = 4.24). Descriptive statistics were used to develop a profile of the participants. To test the research objectives, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), using Wilk's lambda criterion was conducted for the study. The results indicated that a college woman's year significantly influences her perceived clothing deprivation, at p =0.003 (Wilk's lambda). There was a significant positive correlation (r = 0.24, p= 0.02) between college year and perceived clothing deprivation for special occasion clothes. The two clothing decision factors clothes that fit me well and clothes that look best on me were found to be the top two factors determining clothing decisions for the study participants.

  • This paper is concerned with statistical methods for multivariate data when the number p of variables is large compared to the sample size n. Such data appear typically in analysis of DNA microarrays, curve data, financial data, etc. However, there is little statistical theory for high dimensional data. On the other hand, there are some asymptotic results under the assumption that both and p tend to $\infty$, in some ratio p/n ${\rightarrow}$c. The results suggest that the new asymptotic results are more useful and insightful than the classical large sample asymptotics. The main purpose of this paper is to review some asymptotic results for high dimensional statistics as well as classical statistics under a high dimensional asymptotic framework.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relations among family structural environment, materialism, and adolescents' delonquency. The instruments of measurement were Materialism Inventory and Delinquency Scale. The 483 male adolescents were selected randomly from the second grade of high schools in the city of Taegu. Factor analysis, Cronbach's α, MANOVA, and Scheffe test were conducted for the data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1. The materialistic level of adolescent was different with maternal occupation and education level. 1) Adolescent of mother whose occupation was general administrator indicated higher degree of possessiveness. 2) Adolescent of mother whose occupation was professional technician or administrator more regarded possessiveness as success or happiness than the other. 3) Adolescent of mother whose education level was junior college graduation or higher indicated more envy. 2. Each sub-dimension of materialism affected on the adolescents' delinquency differently.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relative influence of OCM and BSM's family functioning dimensions and develop a new family system model related to adolescent adjustment. The 443 subjects were selected randomly from the second grade of middle and high schools in the city of Taegu. The survey instruments were FACESⅢ, SFI-Ⅱ, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Depression Scale, Self-Esteem Scale, and Delinquency Scale, Factor Analysis, Cronbach's α, Multiple Regression, MANOVA, Scheffe test were conducted for the data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, OCM's and BSM's family functioning dimensions respectively had different relative influence that affected adolescent adjustment level. In anxiety and depression. BSM's family health/competence dimension had superior influence to any other family functioning dimensions and in self-esteem and delinquency, OCM's cohesion dimension was superior to any other family functions. Second, family system classification method by a new family system model using family cohesion(OCM's relationship dimension) and family health/competence(BSM's change dimension) was more useful than OCM in evaluating adolescent adjustment.

  • Gender equity education is ineffective in a public school system even though gender equity education is a current issue in South Korean education. One of the problems is attributed to teacher education because no better gender equity education can be accomplished without teacher preparation. Therefore, the effectiveness of teachers is a very important keyword in teacher education. This study examines learning experience, gender equity value, teacher preparation for gender equity education of pre-service teachers in Gonju, South Korea, the factors that influence teacher preparation for gender equity education, and the instruction of gender equity. A survey was delivered to pre-service teachers in 2008, and the data of 350 pre-service teachers were analyzed. MANOVA and Multiple Regressions were used for analyzing the data. The results will contribute to the development of effective teacher education for gender equity education and information on a partnership between the family and the public school system that is centered on gender equity education.

  • This research attempts to analyze type of typography influence on advertising attitude, brand attitude, and purchasing intention among print advertisements. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha, and MANOVA were utilized to analyze those gathered data. The result is the type of typography, affects on building advertising attitude in the mind of audience. However, brand attitude, and purchasing intention are not signigicant. It means that type of typography does not influence on building brand attitude and purchasing intention.

The subjects were 491 high school and college female students. The data were analysed using factor analysis, MANOVA, ANOVA and frequency analysis. The results of questionnaire survey were as follows; 1. Both groups of high school and college female students showed to have similar images toward 9 characters included in the study. 2. College female students had higher preference to Tweety, Bunny than high school girls. But, high school students showed higher preference for Hello Kitty, Pazama Sister's and Dalki, than college students. 3. There was no significant difference between the groups in interest, purchase intention, purchase reason, purchasing items, types of shops, and information sources. But, college students seemed to do less planned purchasing and more impulsive buying compared to high school students.
