  • This paper presents the smart interacting multiple model (SIMM) using the concept of predicted point and maximum noise level. Maximum noise level means the largest value of the mere noises. We utilize the positional difference between measured point and predicted point as acceleration. Comparing this acceleration with the maximum noise level, we extract the acceleration to recognize the characteristics of the target. To estimate the acceleration, we propose an optional algorithm utilizing the proposed method and the Kalman filter (KF) selectively. Also, for increasing the effect of estimation, the weight given at each sub-filter of the interacting multiple model (IMM) structure is varying according to the rate of noise scale. All the procedures of the proposed algorithm can be implemented by an on-line system. Finally, an example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel tracking algorithm called slide window tracker (SWT) suitable for maneuvering target. To efficiently estimate trajectory of moving target, we adopt a sliding piecewise linear window which includes past trace information. By adjusting the window parameters, the proposed algorithm is to reduce measurement noise and to track fast maneuvering target with little computational increment as compared to ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ tracker. Throughout the computer simulations, we verify outstanding tracking performance of the SWT algorithm in noisy linear and nonlinear trajectories. Also, we show that the SWT algorithm is not sensitive to initial model parameter selection, which gives large degree of freedom in applying the SWT algorithm to unknown time-varying measurement environments.

  • In a multi-sensor target tracking systems, the local sensors have the role of tracking the target and transferring the measurements to the fusion center. The measurements from the same target can arrive out of sequence called, the out-of-sequence measurements(OOSMs). The OOSM can arise in a form of single-lag or multi-lag throughout the transfer at the fusion center. The recursive retrodiction step was proposed to update the current state estimates with the multi-lag OOSM from the several previous papers. The real world has the possible situations that the maneuvering target informations can arrive at the fusion center with the random clutter in the possible OOSMs. In this paper, we incorporate the IMM-MPDA(Interacting Multiple Model - Most Probable Data Association) into the multi-lag OOSM update. The performance of the IMM-MPDA filter with multi-lag OOSM update is analyzed for the various clutter densities, OOSM lag numbers, and target maneuvering indexes. Simulation results show that IMM-MPDA is sufficient to be used in out of sequence environment and it is necessary to correct the current state estimates with OOSM except a very old OOSM.

  • The tracking algorithm based on the interacting multiple model(IMM) requires a considerable number of sub-models for the various maneuvering targets in order to have a good performance. But it is not feasible to use the nm algorithm in the real system because of the computational burden. Therefore, we need an algorithm which requires less computing resources while maintaining a good performance. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy interacting multiple model algorithm(FIMMA) for the tracking of maneuvering targets, which uses a minimal number of sub-models by considering the maneuvering properties and adjusts the mode transition probabilities by using the mode probability as a fuzzy input. In order to verify the performance of FIMMA, the developed algorithm is applied to the tracking of i borne targets. Simulation results show that the FIMMA is very effective in the tracking of maneuvering targets.

  • For a long time target maneuvers in tracking problem have been a difficult task to handle. Once a maneuvering such as abrupt change in target accelerations occur, the tracking fiter no longer yields a reasonable estimate of the target position. In order to resolve this cumbersome maneuvering problem. Advanced methods have here proposed : Colored noise, IE(Input Estimation), VD(Variable Dimension), IMM(Interaction Multiple Model), Jump-type processes and jerk model, etc. In this paper, tracking performance of the jerk model is analyzed. Jerk model in which the derivative of target acceleration is included as a state recently attracted considerable attraction. Firstly 3-dimensional Kalman filter is described on the basis of jerk model. Then using this filter, Monte-Carlo simulations are carried out and the filter formance with respect to the variation of jerk time-constant is analyzed. Especially, since jerk model's transient performance is expected to be poor, the performance of analysis of transient response of the model is included too.

  • The multiple targets tracking problem has been one of the main issues in the radar applications area in the last decade. Besides the standard Kalman filtering, various methods including the variable dimen-sion filter, input estimation filter, interacting multiple model(IMM) filter, dederated variable dimension filter with input estimation, etc., have proposed to address the tracking and sensor fusion issues. In this pa- per, two existing tracking algorithm, i.e, the IMM filter and the variable dimension filter with input estima-tion(VDIE), are combined for the purpose of improving the tracking performance for maneuvering targets. To evaluate the tracking performance of the proposed algorithm, three typical maneuvering patterns, i.e., waver, pop-up, and high-diver motions, are defined and are applied to the modified IMM filter as well as the standard IMM filter. The smaller RMS tracking errors, in position and velocity, of the modified IMM filter than the standard IMM filter are demonstrated though computer simulations.

  • Measurement noise variance of the radar is one of the main inputs of a state estimator of surveillance data processing system for air traffic control and has influences on the accuracy performance of maneuvering target tracking. A method is presented of estimating measurement noise variances every frame of target tracking using likelihood functions of multiple IMM filter. The results by running of Monte Carlo simulation show that variances are estimated within 5% of errors compared with true values and the tracking accuracy performance is improved.

  • This paper presents a new fuzzy-neural-network based interacting multiple model (FNNBIMM) algorithm for tracking a maneuvering target. To effectively handle the unknown target acceleration, this paper regards it as additional noise, time-varying variance to target model. Each sub model characterized by the variance of the overall process noise, which is obtained on the basis of each acceleration interval. Since it is hard to approximate this time-varying variance adaptively owing to the unknown acceleration, the FNN is utilized to precisely approximate this time-varying variance. The error back-propagation method is utilized to optimize each FNN. To show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is provided.

  • Ryu et al. recently proposed a multiple target angle-tracking algorithm without a data association problem. This algorithm, however, shows the degraded performance on evasive maneuvering targets, because the estimated signal subspace is d,:graded in the algorithm. In this Paper, we proposed a new algorithm, in which VFF-PASTd (Variable Forgetting Factor PASTd) algorithm is applied to Ryu's algorithm to effectively handle the evasive target tracking with better time-varying signal subspace.

  • In this note, the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based state estimator using standard Kalman filter theory is investigated. In that case, the dynamic system model is represented the T-S fuzzy model with the fuzzy state estimation. The steady state solutions can be found for proposed modeling method and dynamic system for maneuvering targets can be approximated as locally linear system. And then, modeled filter is corrected by the fuzzy gain which is a fuzzy system using the relation between the filter residual and its variation. This paper studies the T-S fuzzy model-based state estimator which the dynamic system can be approximated as linear system.
