In order to evaluate the correlation of age with development stage on permanent lower posterior teeth. the author exmined the roentgeregrams in standard films taken by intraoral technic and analysed the development phases of 1358 teeth of 500 males ranging from 9 to 15 years. The development was divided into 7 phases : Crown complete (Cr. C.). Root length 1/4(R. 1/4) Root length /2 (R. 1/2) Apical closure complete (A.C) The obtained results were as follows : 1. The formation of roots in full length on posterior teeth was complete as follow : a. Roots of 1st premolar : 12.72 years b. Roots of 2nd premolar : 12.94 years c. Meral Roots of 2nd molar : 13.38 years d. Distal Roots of 2nd molar : 13.46 years 2. The formation of apical forman of premolar was closured as follows : a. Apical foramen of root of 1st premolar : 13.64 years b. Apical foramen of root of 2nd premolar : 13.93 years 3. As a general rule. the mesial roots of second molar were developed earlier than distal roots of second molar. 4. In the correlation of age with the development stage, the regression equations. the correlation coefficents. and the sample numbers were “Y = 0.8370x + 10.2160, r = 0.71(p<0.01), n = 318”on lower first premolar, “Y = 0.6984x + 10.2148, r = 0.71(p<0.01), n = 385”on lower second premolar, “Y = 0.8810x + 10.2040, r = 0.65(p<0.01), n = 344”on mesial Root of lower second molar, and “Y = 0.7310x + 10.7940, r = 0.66(p<0.01), n = 311”on Distal Root of lower second molar respectively.

This study was undertaken in order to observe the prevalence of congenital dental anomalies especially that of oligodontia and supernumerary teeth in 1024 children at age from 4 to 14 years, through history taking, oral examinations, roentgenographic observations of subjects, and statistic analysis was made. The following results were obtained: 1. The prevalence of oligodontia in 1024 children was $6.45{\pm}.8$ percent with a total of 122 teeth absent in sixty-six subjects, excluding 3rd molars, and most of children (86.4%) who have congenitally missing teeth showed abscence of one or two teeth individually. 2. The teeth most frequently absent were the mandibular second premolar, maxillary second premolar, maxillary lateral incisor, mandibular central incisor, and mandibular lateral incisor in order. 3. There was no statistically significant difference found in tooth abscence in the following comparisons; .Male vs Female .Bilateral vs Unilateral .Maxilla vs Mandible .Right vs Left 4. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth in 1024 children was $4.79{\pm}.67$ percent with a total of 59 supernumerary teeth in forty-nine subjects, all of children who have supernumerary teeth showed one or two supernumerary teeth individually. 5. Statistically significant difference was found in supernumerary teeth in the comparison of male vs female, and they were more frequent in male.
The extraction lot orthodontic treatment can be adopted for aligning crowded dentition, improving facial esthetics and solving a skeletal discrepancy as alternative for a surgical option. Mandibular second premolar extraction was often selected as treatment plan when there we very little or no space shortage in lower arch or limited retraction of the lower incisors was required. The primary object of this study was evaluate a pretreatment condition and examine the amount of tooth movement ior a mandibular second premolar extraction in growing patients. Pretreatment and posttreatment lateral cephalograms of 14 cases that had their four first premolar extracted (4/4 group), 15 cases with upper first and lower second premolar extraction (4/5 group) were selected. Structural method superimposition was conducted to evaluate a difference of dental change between 4/4 and 4/5 group. The results were as follows, 1. Pretreatment factor for 4/4 extraction or 4/5 extraction choice included maxillary incisor axis to occlusal plane, Class II molar relationship, IMPA and interincisal angle. 2. The amount of molar anterior movement in 4/5 group was greater than that of 4/4 group(p<0.05). 3. There was no significant difference between 4/4 group and 4/5 group in aspects of maxillary tooth movement(p<0.05).

Purpose: The attachment level is strongly associated with tooth loss and provides useful information on patterns of destruction of the periodontium. The presence of horizontal attachment loss would not be detected in clinical measurement. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to estimate the patterns of periodontal destruction based on the attachment area and horizontal attachment loss in extracted teeth due to severe periodontitis. Materials and Methods: 307 teeth satisfied the criteria for assessment. An indirect method, based on digital images obtained from a digital camera and an image analysis program, was used to calculate the area of root surface and attachment loss and the extent of horizontal attachment loss. The data were analysed using SPSS. Results: No statistically significant differences among root surfaces were observed in anterior teeth on the loss of attachment area. However, in posterior teeth statistically significant differences in palatal surfaces of maxillary and mandibular premolar and molar surfaces compared with buccal surfaces were observed. Horizontal attachment loss was observed in 21.5% of the teeth examined. Frequency of horizontal attachment loss was highest in the maxillary first premolar (34.8%), followed by the maxillary second premolar (27.3%) and maxillary canine (25%). The mean length of horizontal attachment loss was 1.5mm. Conclusion: More meticulous examination will be needed of the palatal surfaces of maxillary and mandibular premolar and molar teeth. The percentage of teeth with horizontal attachment loss greater than 2.1 mm was 5.2%. Considering the length of curette blades, about 5.2% of teeth were not properly debrided. Therefore, Additional supportive therapy such as local drug delivery has to be considered in treatment of the first maxillary, second premolar and canine due to the high prevalence of horizontal attachment loss.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the deflection and stress distribution at the supporting bone and it's superstructure by the alteration of angulation between implant and it's implant abutment. For this study, the free-end saddle case of mandibular first and second molar missing would be planned to restore with fixed prosthesis. So the mandibular second premolar was prepared for abutment, and the cylinder type osseointegrated implant was placed at the site of mandibular second molar for abutment. The finite element stress analysis was applied for this study. 13 two-dimensional FEM models were created, a standard model at $0^{\circ}$ and 12 models created by changing the angulation between implant and implant abutment as increasing the angulation mesially and distally with $5^{\circ}$ unittill $30^{\circ}$. The preprocessing decording, solving and postprocessing procedures were done by using FEM analysis software PATRAN and SUN-SPARC2GX. The deflections and von Mises stresses were calculated under concentrated load (load 1) and distributed load(load 2) at the reference points. The results were as follows : 1. Observing at standard model, the amount of total deflection at the distobuccal cusp-tip of pontic under concentrated load was largest of all, and that at the apex of implant was least of all, and the amount of total deflection at the buccal cusp-tip of second premolar under distributed load was largest of all, and that at the apex of implant was least of all. 2. Increasing the angulation mesially or distally, the amounts of total deflection were increased or decreased according to the reference points. But the order according to the amount of total deflection was not changed except apex of second premolar and central fossa of implant abutment under concentrated load during distal inclination. 3. Observing at standard model, the von Mises stress at the distal joint of pontic under concentrated load was largest of all, and that at the apex of implant was least of all. The von Mises stress at the distal margin of second premolar under distributed load was largest of all, and that at the apex of Implant was least of ail. 4. Increasing the angulation of implant mesially, the von Mises stresses at the mesial crest of implant were increased under concentrated load and distributed load, but those were increased remarkably under distributed load and so that at $30^{\circ}$ mesial inclination was largest of all. 5. Increasing the angulation of implant distally, the von Mises stresses at the distal crest of implant were increased remarkably under concentrated load and distributed load, and so those at $30^{\circ}$ distal inclination were largest of all.

The authors have taken the x-ray films of carpal bone and orthopantomographs in Korean children to research the degree of ossification of carpal bone, that of calcification of tooth in jaw bone, the eruption rate of tooth, and the completion rate of apical foramen, and have compared the bone age and tooth age. We have gained a series of intersting conclusions to dare to report. 1. The ossification of carpal bone and the growth of tooth had processed proportionally to each other. 2. Both the bone age and tooth age were earlier in the female than in the male. 3. The completion of tooth crown formation and that of tooth root formation had processed proportionally to each other, and the general tendency of process was the earliest in the mandibular first molar and the latest in the second molar. 4. The eruption of tooth was the earliest in the mandibular first molar. The other teeth had erupted in the following orders: the central incisor, the lateral incisor, the first premolar, the second premolar, the canine and the second molar.

The author observed a case of ectopic erupted maxillary second premolars and impacted mandibular second premolars due to premature loss of the primary second molars. The treatments were done as follows: 1. In the maxilla, the teeth arrangement problem was corrected with removal of the ectopic erupted second premolars. 2. In the mandible, normal dentition was established with surgical removal of the left second premolar and removal of the permanent first molar in right side combined by orthodontic therapy.

Tooth agenesis is a common human dental anomaly and the agenesis of mandibular second premolars has been proven to be the most frequently observed. The aim of this study is to investigate tooth agenesis and delayed tooth development in patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars. This study reviewed 9 to 15 year-old patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars who visited the department of pediatric dentistry of Yonsei University Dental Hospital and took panoramic radiographs from January 2014 to December 2016. On panoramic radiographs, agenesis of teeth was observed and developmental delay of teeth was evaluated by the Nolla method. Among 125 patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars, 58 patients (46.4%) showed agenesis of other teeth and 38 patients (30.4%) showed delayed tooth development. In this study, patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars were more likely to have tooth agenesis or delayed eruption of other teeth.
Purpose: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) reconstructions were analysed to elucidate factors affecting the anatomical relationship between tooth roots and the mandibular canal(MC). Materials and Methods: Images of 300 volumetric tomography scans of patients aged between 20 and 79 years old (167 women and 133 men) were analysed. The mean distances between 2,053 dental root apices and the internal border of the MC were obtained by measuring the horizontal and vertical distances on coronal CBCT images. The actual distance was then calculated mathematically with the Pythagorean formula. The statistical significance of differences between men and women was assessed using the Mann-Whitney test. Correlations with patient age were evaluated with the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. Results: The mean distances ranged from 2.17 mm, for single right third molar roots in women, to 8.02 mm for single left third molar mesiolingual roots in men. The mean distances measured for the mandibular right second molar mesial roots and the right second premolar roots were larger in men than in women. Age showed a significant positive correlation with the measured distances for mesial and distal roots of the first and second molar on both sides and the right third molar, mesiolingual roots of the left third molar, and single roots of the right third molar. Conclusion: The root-to-mandibular canal distance depended on age and the type of tooth. In 2 root types, this distance was impacted by sex.
PURPOSE. To investigate the influence of crown material (lithium-disilicate, 3Y-TZP zirconia) and abutment type (rigid implant, resin tooth with artificial periodontium) on wear performance of their antagonist teeth and adjacent teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A mandibular left first molar (#36) with adjacent human teeth (mandibular left second premolar: #35, mandibular left second molar: #37) and antagonistic human teeth (maxillary left second premolar: #25, maxillary left first molar: #26, maxillary left second molar: #27) was prepared simulating a section of the jaw. Samples were made with extracted human molars (Reference), crowned implants (Implant), or crowned resin tooth analogues (Tooth). Crowns (tooth #36; n = 16/material) were milled from lithium-disilicate (Li, IPS e.max CAD) or 3Y-TZP zirconia (Zr, IPS e.max ZirCAD, both Ivoclar Vivadent). Thermal cycling and mechanical loading (TCML) in the chewing simulator were applied simulating 15 years of clinical service. Wear traces were analyzed (frequency [n], depth [㎛]) and evaluated using scanning electron pictures. Wear results were compared by one-way-ANOVA and post-hoc-Bonferroni (α = 0.05). RESULTS. After TCML, no visible wear traces were found on Zr. Li showed more wear traces (n = 30-31) than the reference (n = 21). Antagonistic teeth #26 showed more wear traces in contact to both ceramics (n = 27-29) than to the reference (n = 21). Strong wear traces (> 350 ㎛) on antagonists and their adjacent teeth were found only in crowned groups. Abutment type influenced number and depth of wear facets on the antagonistic and adjacent teeth. CONCLUSION. The clinically relevant model with human antagonistic and adjacent teeth allowed for a limited comparison of the wear situation. The total number of wear traces and strong wear on crowns, antagonistic and adjacent teeth were influenced by crown material.
