This study was conducted to identify the influence of nursing image and nursing as a major, on the professionalism of male nursing students. Totally, 180 male nursing students having experience in clinical practice from B and U cities, were enrolled as subjects. Data were collected from 15th November to 15th December, 2016. Analysis by t-test, ANOVA & Scheff's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression revealed a mean score of nursing image at 3.95, major satisfaction score of 3.90, and nursing professionalism score of 3.79. The degree of professional awareness amongst the participants was statistically and significantly different, depending on their year of study and the person who had recommended nursing as a career option. Nursing professionalism was highly correlated with the nursing image, and moderately correlated with satisfaction of nursing as a major subject. Results also indicated that 60.6% results indicating nursing professionalism were most significantly influenced by two factors: the image of the nurse, followed by satisfaction of nursing as major. We conclude that to improve the nursing professionalism of male students requires education and strategy to improve their nursing image, and career education and guidance that focuses towards greater satisfaction for their selected major subject.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of interpersonal relation and job stress on nursing performance among male nurses. Methods: This study was cross-sectional descriptive one. The data were collected from self-administered questionnaires by 110 male nurses members affiliated with the Korean Man Nurses Association. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one way ANOVA with Duncan test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 21.0. Nursing performance was high in married, good health condition, manager, and high salary among male nurses. Nursing performance showed significant positive correlation with interpersonal relation (p<.001), and a significant negative correlation with job stress (p=.010). Influencing factors of nursing performance among male nurses were interpersonal relation, health status, total duration of career, position, and the adjusted $R^2$ of the regression model was 42%. Conclusion: The results suggest that we need to develop a training program to improve the nursing performance of the male nurses.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify turnover experiences of men in nursing and to derive a substantive theory on the turnover experience of men who are nurses. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 13 men who had worked as a nurse for 1 year or more, and had a turnover experience during that period. Collected data were analyzed on the basis of Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory. Results: The core category in the turnover experiences of the respondents was 'seeking a stable place for me'. In the analysis of the core category, types of 'contentment', 'seeking', 'survival' and 'confusion' were identified. The sequential stages of these nurses' turnover experience were 'confrontation', 'incertitude', 'retrying' and 'realization'. However, when a problem arose in the process, they returned to the stage of confusion. Thus, these stages could occur in a circular fashion. Conclusion: These findings provide a deep understanding of the turnover experience of men in nursing and offers new information about how they adapt to nursing practice. The findings should be useful as foundational data for men who hope to become nurses and also for managers responsible for nurses who are men.
A survey was conducted to study attitudes of physician, nurse and patient towards physician's and nurse's uniform, from March 1 to March 31, 1996. The study population was 130 physicians and 147 nurses engaged in Yeungnam University Medical Center and 211 inpatients of Yeungnam University Medical Center. A questionnaire method was used to collect data. The following are summaries of findings: In the respect of physician's uniform, both physicians and nurses preferred other type of gown to the traditional coat-typed one and especially, nurses preferred more than physicians. Patients showed no difference in the preference of the traditional one and other form of gown as a whole but those who had higher educational level preferred other form of gown(p<0.01). Regarding the color of physician's gown, 73.6% of physicians and nurses liked white color, and 86.3% of the patients also liked the white color. Male physicians preferred the white color more than female physicians and nurses(p<0.01). Patients showed no meaningful difference for the color. In the group of patiens, the same opinion was given by female, the group of sixty or more, the group of elementary school graduates or less and people residing in other cities and counties more than male, the group of other ages, the group of having higher educational level and people of Taegu city(p<0.01). It tended to agree wearing casual wear of physician during the working time of weekend and holiday as a whole. Younger physicians showed significantly higher preference for it(p<0.05). Regarding the nurse's uniform, both physicians and nurses preferred trousers, and 96% of the nurses did. Especially, nurses who were forty years old or more and who served at outpatient department and administrative and aid parts expressed 100 percent partiality to trousers. For the patients, those who had lower educational level preferred skirt and those who had higher educational level preferred trousers. As to the color of nurse's gown, 46.7% of the physicians and nurses liked white color. The physicians preferred white and nurses preferred other color(p<0.01). Of the patients, 79.1% liked white color. Regarding the wearing cap, 95.9% of the nurses replied it didn't have to wear the cap. The nurses who were fifty or more and who served at outpatient department and special parts gave whole answers of not having to wear the cap.
