  • According to a rise in leisure time thanks to a five-day workweek system, the population of golf tends to rise day by day as exercise not extreme and doing together with nature, and as a sport with high concentration degree, by virtue of people who have an interest in health care and who strive to enjoy a leisure life. This study targeted the whole male and female golfers who reside in the areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do and are now playing golf, carried out sampling, and finally used 485 sheets for analyzing data. The study results were as follows; First, as a result of analyzing the whole lifestyle propensity depending on golfers' gender, it was shown that, as a result of making it type by factor, a male golfer was classified into shopping intention, fashion intention, family intention and tradition intention, and a female golfer was divided into shopping intention, fashion intention, family intention and man-and-woman equality intention. Second, as a result of analyzing a characteristic of gender depending on the standard of selecting goods, it showed the difference between genders as for the standard of selecting goods in case of purchasing golfwear, and it showed the difference in style/design, physique fitness, wearing of a famous golfer, convenience of laundry and management, and functionality, and male golfers were shown to select after seeing the clothes which a famous golfer did wear, compared to female golfers. Also, it could be seen that there was difference depending on the standard of selecting goods and the purchasing propensity in case of buying golfwear.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the selected electromyographical muscle activities of trunk and hip during Professional and Amateur golfer's Iron swing. Using surface electromyography, we evaluated muscle activities in 6 male professional golfers and 6 male amateur golfers during the golf iron swing. Surface electrodes were used to record the level of muscle activity in the right abdominal oblique, left abdominal oblique, right erector spinae, left erector spinae, right rectus abdominis, left rectus abdominis, right gluteus maximus, left gluteus maximus muscles during the golfer's swing. These signals were compared with IEMG(Integrated EMG) which was normalized by %RVC(Reference voluntary contraction). The golf swing was divided into three phases: take away, forward swing-acceleration, follow-through. We observed patterns of trunk muscle activity throughout three phases of the golf swing. The results can be summarized as follows: LES(Left Erector spinae) had statistically significant difference in take away and forward swing-acceleration phases. It was showed no significant difference in follow-through phase.

  • The aim of this research is to investigate the demographic characteristics of the purchase tendencies and shopping trends amongst female golfers and how these are influenced by their life style and to analyse their selection criteria for purchases of golf-related items. The research methodology was through the use of questionnaires, completed by female golfers in Gyeongnam. The results are as follows: life style trends of male golfers were analysed to be categorized into one of the following: the shopping-addicted, fashion-conscious, rationalist and family oriented spenders. The characteristics of these categories are described as one of the following: utilitarian-complacent, rationalist, self-worshipping, inconsiderate. The demographic characteristics showed notable variations only in age differences. The obtained results show that the influences of the variables are minimal and there was no notable correlation. Significant differences were observed from one life style group to another, in selection criteria for purchase, which mainly depended on style, design, colour, pattern, designer-label, co-ordinated looks, similarity, ease of maintenance and functionality. Comparisons were made between the previously categorized life-style-groups and notable differences were present in such characteristics as ostentatious, trendy, aesthetically pleasing and functional.

  • This study identified domestic and foreign golf clothing norms and extended recognition and attitude on golf clothing norms expressed in a golf wear style for golfer groups in their 20s-30s. Domestic golf clothing norms were derived from a theoretical research and case study; subsequently, golfers in their 20s-30s were classified into 4 groups. In-depth interviews were conducted using a serious leisure concept to analyze attitudes and stylistic expressions. Domestic golf clothing norms derived from stipulated and implicit norms varied as a type and situation of a golf course, gender of the golfer, and domestic golfers in their 20s-30s perceived such a point. For golfers in their 20s-30s, attitudes on golf clothing norms and their stylistic expressions showed differences according to gender and leisure type. As for gender characteristics, female golfers focused on 'look prettier' in stylistic expressions through experiences with a double-standard clothing norm; however, male golfers showed strict application and observance of a clothing norm in stylistic expressions compared to female golfers. However, male golfer groups in their 20s-30s as 'casual leisure participants' and those as 'serious leisure participants' showed differences becuase the former showed a tendency to observe clothing norms from other viewpoints and evaluations and the latter showed off their abilities and careers as a means of distinction. As for characteristic of stylistic expressions according to a leisure type, golfers in their 20s-30s showed distinction as serious leisure participants through forming new and independent clothing norms. Research findings are expected to provide an opportunity to reconsidering the influence of clothing norms in young people who have a strong tendency to express clothing style as a means to pursue individuality and taste.

  • This study aims to examine the gender characteristics depending on golfers' criteria of choosing golf-wear and to identify the differences in consumption propensity. The research methodology was through the use of questionnaires, completed by golfers in Gyeongnam. As a result of examining the gender differences in the criteria of choosing golf-wear, it has been found that female golfers give more considerations to suitability to body, care convenience, and functionality than male golfers do when choosing golf-wear. As a result of analyzing the factors regarding the consumption propensity of golf-wear, they are categorized into ostentaion, fashion, aesthetic appreciation and practicality. According to the consumption propensity, male golfers were classified into three groups: ostentatious perfection, practical, common group. Female golfer were classified into three groups: practical, common, ostentatious perfection group. Groups of men golfers showed significant differences in the factors of ostentation, fashion and aesthetic appreciation of the consumption propensity. Groups of women golfers, however, showed significant differences in the factors of ostentation and practicality of the consumption propensity. It is considered that marketers need to develop golf-wear according to the gender characteristics by referring to the fact that choice criteria differ according to gender and consumption propensity.

  • A 30-year-old male novice golfer was diagnosed with a clay-shoveler's fracture. During golf practice, he experienced persistent posterior neck and upper back pain for a month. Cervical radiographs and computed tomography revealed a series of sequential spinous process fractures from C7 to T3. The patient was prescribed analgesic medication and fitted with a cervical brace alongside extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) directed explicitly toward the upper back region, subsequently leading to a notable reduction in pain. Therefore, ESWT could be considered an additional method for pain management in patients with clay-shoveler's fractures.

Is Male Professional Golfers' 10.94 m Putting Motion a Pendulum Motion? From a Point of View of the Location of the Center of Putter Head Rotation (퍼터헤드 회전중심점 위치 관점에서 본 남자프로골퍼의 10.94 m 퍼팅동작의 진자운동 여부)

  • Putting score counts about 43 % of the golf score. The dominant idea of the putting motion to amateur golfers as well as to many professional golfers is a pendulum-like motion. If a golfer's putting stroke motion is a pendulum-like motion, the putting motion should be straight-back-and-through, the same backswing, downswing, and follow through length and period, and a swing with a fixed hinge joint. If the putting motions of the human are different from the pendulum motion, there could be confusion in understanding and teaching golf putting. The purpose of this study was to examine the center of rotation(COR) of the putter head to reveal whether professional golfers really putt like a pendulum. Thirteen male professional golfers were recruited for the study. Each golfers executed 10.94 m putts six times on an artificial grass mat. Putter head position data were collected through a 60 Hz three-dimensional motion analysis system and low pass filtered with cut-off frequency of 6 Hz. COR of the putter head was mathematically acquired. Each golfer's last five putting motions were considered. The results show that the COR of the putter head was neither fixed nor located inside of the golfer. The medio-lateral directional component of the COR of the putter head fluctuated in the range of 10 cm during downswing and follow through. The anterior-posterior directional component of the COR of the putter head was fixed from the beginning of the downswing through impact. Just after impact, however, it moved to the target up to 60 cm. The superior-inferior directional component of COR of the putter head moved in a superior direction with the beginning of the downswing and showed peak height just prior to impact. During the follow through, it moved back in an inferior direction. The height-normalized peak value of the COR of the putter head was $1.4{\pm}0.3$ height. Technically speaking, male professional golfers' 10.94 m putting motion is not a pendulum-like motion. The dominating idea of a pendulum-like motion in putting might come from the image of the flawless, smooth motion of a pendulum.
