  • This study aimed to investigate how child neglect abuse by parents, children's intimacy with teachers and peer attachment influenced boys' and girls' psycho-social maladjustment(aggression, social withdrawal and depression). The subjects were 2,264 elementary school students(boys: 1,180, girls: 1,084) in upper grades participating in the Korea Child Youth Panel Surveys. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, correlations and hierarchical regressions. The main results of this study were as follows. Firstly, regardless of children's sex, as child abuse levels by parents are higher, so children's aggression levels are higher. Also, children's intimacy with teachers and peer attachment moderated the effects of child neglect abuse by parents on both boys' and girls' aggression. But the patters of moderating effects were differed in children's sex. Secondly, child neglect abuse by parents didn't influence boys' and girls' social withdrawal and boys' peer attachment moderated the effects of child neglect by parents on boys' social withdrawal. Finally, child abuse by parents strongly influenced boys' depression, but child neglect by parents strongly influenced girls' depression. Also, there were no moderating effects of children's intimacy with teachers and peer attachment on the relation between child abuse neglect by parents, and boys' and girls' depression.

The data were collected from 577 middle and high school students in Chonju by using self-administered questionnaire method. Results showed that there were significant differences in the frequency level of adolescents'delinquent behaviors across adolescents'sex, grade, birth order, school achievement level, and religion, and across mother's occupation. and subjective living level. The delinquent behaviors were also negatively correlated with most of family relationship characteristics. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the causal relationship of familial factors (parental acceptance, autonomy, and family satisfaction), social support (teacher's support and friend's support), school achievement, self-concept, and school adjustment. Based on preceding research, this study established a path model of school adjustment and its related variables. Methods: Two thousand six hundred and twenty nine middle school students participated in this study. Data were collected by a visit-survey with an organized questionnaire and was analyzed by the SPSS and AMOS programs. Results: Self-concept showed a significantly direct influence to school adjustment while both family satisfaction and school achievement directly and indirectly influenced school adjustment. Parental acceptance, autonomy, and social support indirectly influenced school adjustment. Conclusion: These results imply that first, family satisfaction, and self-concept are essential to solve the problems of school adjustment. Especially friend's support, teacher's support and school achievement should help improve the self-concept and school adjustment. Second, a variety of programs are available for schools to employ in an effort to provide interventions for students who demonstrate school maladjustment. Finally, it is necessary for family, school and society members to comprehensively cooperate to improve school adjustment.

  • The present study explored a factor, social support, that could mediate the relationship between negative life events and behavioral problems during adolescence. It was hypothesized that social support from parents, peers, and teachers would be an effective mediator between negative life events and delinquent behavior. Data were collected from 161 of the 9th graders in a high school in a coastal community of Oregon. A series of path analyses using regression techniques was used to examine the research hypotheses. Results indicated that social support mediated the relationship between negative life events and delinquent behavior, implying the importance of social support from family, peers, and school in preventing delinquent behavior among adolescents. That is, negative life events were found to exert influence indirectly upon delinquent behavior through its direct effect on social support. Results were discussed in relation to the effects of negative life events on social support and delinquent behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and verify the effectiveness of a group art therapy program to help children from multicultural families adapt to school life by using Kinetic School Drawing(KSD). The result of this study showed that the group art therapy program of the multicultural family's children may have a positive effect in aiding their school life adaptation. The results showed considerable and statistical outcome in the fore and after drawing inspection of the dynamic KSD. Also, the size of the self-image became bigger and their expressions has been increased. The qualitative analysis also showed a huge change in dynamistic personal relationships due to the relationship with their peers with the same aged and the tutor. This study emphasizes the importance of the group art therapy program to be applied before children are admitted to school because of growing recognition of concern about the maladjustment of rapidly growing multicultural family's children. It is also suggests that the group art therapy program of growing multicultural family's children should be viewed with an ecological point of view.

  • Purpose. to help them find mental rest and improve school life adjustment by way of a fine art cure program. Methods. two primary schools in Gyeongsangnam-do were chosen where there are plenty of multiple-family kids. 13 children from the families between Korean husbands and foreign wives were divided into 2 groups: experimental group (7, C School), control group (6, H School). The two groups took the KSD (Kinetic School Draw), while the experimental group received a fine art cure program (40 minutes, once a week, 10 times in total). After the program, the KSD was given again to both groups. To prove the effects of this study, the picture projection test KSD was given before and after the experiment. For comparison and analysis, the changes in each individual's attitude, behavior, responses, and emotions were observed and recorded. Results. The fine art treatment program had some effects on the psychological rest of the elementary school children from multiple-culture families. In the pretest before the art cure program, the subjects shrank and cared a lot about others. According to the progress of the program, however, their worries and anxiety began to be gone. They had confidence through mental ease and self-respect. Therefore, the fine art cure program had a positive effect on the improvement of self-respect and sociality of multiple-culture family kids. Their school life was influenced by the newly-attained confidence, achievement, and peer relationship. Conclusions. This research is of some significance in that the fine art cure program was held to reveal its effects on the school life adjustment of the elementary school kids from multiple-culture families, especially because worries grow about the possibility of their maladjustment in the era of multiple-culture families. In addition, this program is expected to give some basic information about the development of programs to make friendly relations and smooth communication among the multiple-culture parents and teachers as well.
