  • The purpose of this research is to study if the images that make-up advertisement tries to symbolize can be altered with changes only in the colors of make-up and without any changes in other factors and if colors can be tools of communication in image. Also, we studied the interaction between the partial changes of eyes and lips. The results are as follows. First, we studied if the images that make-up advertisement tries to symbolize can be altered with changes only in the colors of make-up and without any changes in other factors. The study revealed more or less differences, however, when we applied colors of each image on photos, people had higher recognition on that image more than other images. Therefore, we can conclude that the image can be changed merely with the change from colors of make-up. Second, we changed the make-up colors of lips and eyes separately and studied the interaction of the two. When natural colors and elegant color were applied, there was no interaction of color application between eyes and lips within 0.1 significance level. In the case of romantic colors, there was interaction of applying colors between lips and eyes within 0.1 significance level. When we applied gorgeous colors and modern colors, there was interaction of applying colors between lips and eyes within 0.1 significance level. Therefore, from the interaction of the two, it was recognized to be most gorgeous or most modern when gorgeous colors or modern colors were applied in both lips and eyes.

  • Perceptions of beauty change and are shared with others in the media of emotional words. In the modern age, a mix of traditional and modern make-up cultures has changed the standards of beauty. Therefore, an analysis using emotional words (an image that consumers have for certain subjects) and an image scale that intuitively shows them can be an important means for understanding changes in the "beauty of the time". This paper considered changes in typical aesthetic characteristics that women pursued through make-up by analyzing emotional words in white make-up powder advertisement texts from the 1920s through the 1930s. Imported modern technologies changed cosmetic manufacturing techniques and advertising methods to create a momentum that changed women's make-up culture from light to heavy make-up or from white to color make-up. Such changes have led to changes in the perception of beauty and were expressed through sensitive vocabularies such as pure, new, fresh, lofty, lively, healthy, and cheery. Such changes reflect social aspects such as women's aspirations for high status, pursuit of security, or women's roles under the wartime regime to show a change from beauty with an attribute of [+cool] to that of [+soft].

Since these expressions of eroticism appealing to sex which is one of the primitive instincts of mankind are increasing in advertisements of cosmetic products which are used more often by recent high-rate-growth and the elevation of living conditions. The most usual expression-elements of eroticism in advertisement are exposure, pose, fashion style, make up, hair style and color. To analyze those expression-elements we made four pieces of fashion advertisement photos with four different types and surveyed both fashion majored students and non-fashion majored students. We applied regression analysis, ANOVA, and frequency analysis to verify the hypothesis. We found that in eroticism, the pose was the most important cognitive feature among the expression-elements and degree of cognition are varied according to major field and sexual interest. As a result, degree of cognition which effected by expression-elements will be varied even in same advertisement. In particular, convincing that the pose was the significant factor of eroticism cognition, expression of eroticism in advertisement would be more diverse and daring.
