  • The purpose of this study is to analyze highschool girls' concerns about environmental problems after investigating the actual state of environmental education and to suggest some fundamental changes in the Home Economics classes to improve environmental education. The sample was selected form high school girl students in Kyounggi Province between September 16 and September 26, 1996. Eight hundred twenty (820) first and second grade respondents were used. The data were analyzed by frequency, mean, percentile, factor analysis. Duncan's Multiple Range Test, and Stepwise Multiple Regression. Based on the major findings, the most influential variable was parental attitudes towards environmental conservation and problem. Next in influence was the environmental education provided in Home Economics classes. Also important were the individual student's interest in Home Economics classes, and her belief in the utility of environmental conservation in everyday life. The research conclusions are as follows: 1. We'll find how to relate efficiently the environmental education with everyday life by analyzing thoroughly the text of home economics. 2. We'll develop how to educate students parents properly because parental attitudes to wards the environmental problem have a great effect on students' behaviors. 3. We'll ceinforce environmental education by developing problems, and to motivate them to take real action in the area of environmental conservation.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify latent classes based on major modifiable risk factors for coronary artery disease. Methods: This was a secondary analysis using data from the electronic medical records of 2,022 patients, who were newly diagnosed with coronary artery disease at a university medical center, from January 2010 to December 2015. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 for descriptive analysis and Mplus version 7.4 for latent class analysis. Results: Four latent classes of risk factors for coronary artery disease were identified in the final model: 'smoking-drinking', 'high-risk for dyslipidemia', 'high-risk for metabolic syndrome', and 'high-risk for diabetes and malnutrition'. The likelihood of these latent classes varied significantly based on socio-demographic characteristics, including age, gender, educational level, and occupation. Conclusion: The results showed significant heterogeneity in the pattern of risk factors for coronary artery disease. These findings provide helpful data to develop intervention strategies for the effective prevention of coronary artery disease. Specific characteristics depending on the subpopulation should be considered during the development of interventions.

  • This study was conducted to determine the elements that are required and that need improvement in the contents of dietary life education and the educational environment by analyzing the importance-satisfaction of a dietary life education program for dietary life education trainees. The results of the rank test for the satisfactory elements of dietary life education were in the order of competence of instructors, educational contents, time of education, educational environment and affordability of tuition. The importance-satisfaction analysis of the contents and construction of the dietary life education program showed that "suitable contents for the theme of the class", "contents and construction of practice class", "diversity of practice menu" and "diversity of educational contents" had high importance and satisfaction scores and therefore, could be maintained at their current levels. Meanwhile, "adequacy of class time" and "contents and construction of theory class" showed low importance and satisfaction scores, requiring a little effort. Whereas, "time and construction of group practice", "structure of textbook for class" and "duration of course and number of classes" showed relatively low satisfaction compared to importance, requiring major efforts for improvement. Similarly, analysis of the lecture element from dietary life education showed that "professional lecture by instructors", "lectures suitable for themes" and "lecture applicable in real life" had relatively low satisfaction compared to importance, requiring major efforts for improvement. In addition, analysis of the educational environment from dietary life education showed that "adequacy of lecture room space", "cooking equipment", "diversity of cooking utensils" and "sanitary condition of cooking utensils" also require major efforts for improvement. Therefore, dietary life education should not be executed with a simple delivery of knowledge but with both theory and practice classes to increase its application in real life, and active and specific efforts are required to nurture professional instructors and establish educational strategies.

  • Recently, research F&E(Facilities and Equipment) have become very important as tools and means to lead the development of science and technology. The government has been continuously expanding investment budgets for R&D and research F&E, and the need for efficient operation and systematic management of research F&E built up nationwide has increased. In December 2010, The government developed and completed a standardized classification system for national research F&E. However, accuracy and trust of information classification are suspected because information is collected by a method in which a user(researcher) directly selects and registers a classification code in NTIS. Therefore, in the study, we analyzed linearly using linear discriminant analysis(LDA) and analysis of variance(ANOVA), to measure the classification accuracy for the standardized classification system(8 major-classes, 54 sub-classes, 410 small-classes) of the national research facilities and equipment established in 2010, and revised in 2015. For the analysis, we collected and used the information data(50,271 cases) cumulatively registered in NTIS(National Science and Technology Service) for the past 10 years. This is the first case of scientifically verifying the standardized classification system of the national research facilities and equipment, which is based on information of similar classification systems and a few expert reviews in the in-outside of the country. As a result of this study, the discriminant accuracy of major-classes organized hierarchically by sub-classes and small-classes was 92.2 %, which was very high. However, in post hoc verification through analysis of variance, the discrimination power of two classes out of eight major-classes was rather low. It is expected that the standardized classification system of the national research facilities and equipment will be improved through this study.

  • Total lipids (TL) from Korean pinenut (Pinuskoraiensis S & Z) were extracted, purified and fractionated into three lipid classes (neutral lipid: NL, glycolipid; GL, phospholipid; PL). Lipid contents(constituent components) and fatty acid composition of three lipid classes were determined by thin layer chromatography and gas chromatography. TL ranged from 69.0% to 69.8% in fresh pinenut and consisted of 95.9% to 96.7% NL, 3.2% to2.5% GL and 0.9% to 0.8% PL. In the NL, triglycerides were predominant (80.8%) with the smaller amounts of sterol, diglycerides, free fatty acids, sterol esters and hydrocarbons. Monogalactosyl diglycerides and esterified steryl glycosides (23.5%) were the major components of GL, but cerebrosides, steryl glycosides and digalactosyl diglycerides were also found as minor components. Of the PL, phosphatidyl choline (40.2%) and phosphatidyl ethanolamine (19.4%) were the major components, comprising over 60% of this class. Phosphatidyl inositol, lysophosphatidyl choline were also present in the PL. The major fatty acids in the NL were linoleic acid (48.6%), oleic acid (28.8%) and arachidic acid(14.4%), The fatty acid composition in the GL was similar to the pattern in the NL, but PL contained a higher percentage of palmitic acid (17.7%) and stearic acid (6.0%) than other lipid classes.

  • The purpose of the study was to understand the various aspects of learning experiences of Korean university students on K-MOOC. Analyses on the major motivation of the enrollment in a certain MOOC class, the actual learning experiences in the class and the perception of the achievement of the class were the three main foci of the current study. The study employed inductive content analysis as a major analysis tool. Reflective journals from 94 students who enrolled in K-MOOC classes were collected and analyzed at the end of the semester. The result of this study indicated that most of students selected the specific K-MOOC classes based on their general interests on the topics the class offered. Other factors such as intellectual curiosity, practical reasons for their study or work and popularity were also influential on the selection of MOOC classes. Watching videos, taking quizzes and taking tests were the three major sources of the students' satisfaction. Most students felt that K-MOOC is technically satisfactory. However, some students reported on simple errors and absence of advanced functions in the platform. Students perceived positively on their academic achievements of obtaining knowledge(remembering and understanding), attitudes (receiving), and skills through K-MOOC. This study ultimately showed a new awareness of learning experiences around K-MOOC from the perspective of the students. Future research is needed to understand the relationships between the students' learning experience and the students' performance in MOOC classes.

  • The composition of glycolipids and phospholipids of milled rice grain were studied for four nonglutinous and two glutinous varieties grown in Korea. Main classes of the glycolipids were esterified sterylglycosides, monogalactosyl diglycerides, steryl glycosides, digalactosyl diglycerides and cerebrosides in both of nonglutinous and glutinous, and no differences in individual content of the classes between both varieties. Of the phospholipids, Iysophophatidyl cholines, phosphatidyl cholines, phosphatidyl ethanolamines, phosphatidyl inositols and phosphatidyl serines were the major components, comprising oveer 85% of this class, and smaller amounts of diphosphatidyl glycerols and phosphatidyl glycerols were present. There was significant differences individual content of the phospholipid classes between both varieties. The major fatty acids of glycolipids and phospholipids fractions were palmitic, linoleic and oleic acids in both of nonglutinous and glutinous varieties. But content of palmitic acid in glycolipids fraction and stearic, oleic and linoleic acids in phospholipids fraction showed significant differences between both varieties.

  • To understand the characteristics of organic aerosol(OA) at the background atmosphere of Korea, an observation of atmospheric PM10 was conducted at a Global Atmospheric Watch(GAW) station operated by the Korean Meteorological Administration at Anmyon Island during 2010. Various organic compounds were analyzed from 26 samples by using a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer. Water soluble organic carbon(WSOC) was also analyzed by using a total organic carbon(TOC) analyzer. Among 6 classes with 68 target compounds detected, the classes of n-alkanoic and alkenoic acids ($326.67{\pm}75.40ngm^{-3}$) and dicarboxylic acids ($323.74{\pm}361.89ngm^{-3}$) were found to be major compound classes in the atmosphere of Anmyon Island. Compared to the previous results reported for 2005 spring samples at Gosan site, the concentrations of organic compounds at Anmyon Island were 3-10 times higher than Gosan site due to the difference of location and sampling period. The concentrations of organic compounds were varied with the atmospheric conditions. Significant increase of the concentrations of dicarboxylic and carboxylic acids in the smog episode indicated that secondary oxidation of organic compounds was major factor to increase OA concentration during smog episode in the Anmyon Island. It was found that the compositions of the OA measured at Anmyon Island were dependent on the air parcel trajectories.
