Case Analysis and Statistical Characteristics of a Railroad Weather-Related Accidents and Incidents each Railroad Line in the Korean Peninsula (노선별 철도기상사고의 통계적 특성 및 사례분석)

  • This paper aims to find out the statistical characteristics of railroad weather-related accidents and incidents of each railroad line and then reduce the railroad accidents and prepare for the climate change. For this, we used data of KROIS and Korea railroad accidents report during 1996-2008. The results are as follows; Gyeongbu line is the most vulnerable line to railroad weather-related accidents, Yeongdong and Taebaek line are also the vulnerable line. The main railroad weather-related accidents and incidents is a railway obstruction and the next is a signal failure, a power supply failure. The second cause of a railway obstruction was some different for each line, but the main cause was a collapsed roadbed. We knew that the cold front accompanied with a heavy rainfall for a short time is the main weather pattern which cause the railroad accidents.

  • This report was studied about speed-up for main line of KNR(Korea National Railroad) by High Speed Train. The maximum speed of Kyun-Pu line was recorded a 140km/h by Saemaul train in 1985 and the average speed its is a 107km/h now. For operation KTX Kyun-Pu High Speed Train and G7 Korea High Speed Train in KNR line, this report was studied about operation status of High Speed Train in advanced countries, operation situation of train in KNR line and plan of speed-up for main line.

Estimation of Running Safety of Electric Multiple Unit for Express Train in Incheon International Airport Railway (인천국제공항철도 직통형 차량의 주행안전성 평가)

  • For the safety of railway, it should be evaluated for the running safety by measuring the derailment coefficient. Although railway has run the fixed and maintained rail, some of railway is derailed. This report shows the results that performed the static load test, wheelset manufacturing for test, main line running test on the basis of the derailment theory and experience. It is executed main line test to 120 km/h for estimating the running safety of express train in Incheon International Airport. As the test results, could confirm the curving performance and running safety of Incheon International Airport EMU from the results of the wheel unloading, lateral force, derailment coefficient etc. Derailment coefficient was less than 0.8, and lateral force allowance limit and wheel load reduction ratio were enough safe.

  • High speed railway challenge the design, construction and maintaining of traditional railway, many traditional design concepts have been changed. Transition of railway and bridge has two main problems. one is that different lines have different ability of resisting distortion in area of trial load, which was known that problem of smooth transition of stiffness, the other is that differential settlement between artificial structure and earth structure cause bending of railway. The two problems have effect on train moving. The principle of processing transition of railway and bridge is same in world, but it is difficult to find relationship between design standard of transition, vehicle performance, line standard, design speed and so on form documentation and data reports. Based on mechanics, the paper analyzed dynamic performance of transition of high speed railway, studied various rough elements which is effective to train moving, built mathematical model of interaction of train and transition of high speed railway and developed numerical simulation software. In various different work conditions, we did great quantity of numerical simulation, comprehensive analysis and performance analysis.

  • Recently the Korean Government is increasing investment and interest on railway in the transportation field as "low carbon and green growth" policy become main national development strategy. While railway competitiveness is weakening over the road from the inconvenient door-to-door and transfer system of railway, it is meaningful to review excellent railway transfer system of advanced countries and adapt their implications for Korea. Their transfer systems like Japan, Hongkong, France, U.K. and German can be categorized in this research as kinds of transfer & connectivity system and transfer facility & flow planning, and, as a result, their implications can be concluded. Also, analyzing transfer system of Korea's main stations and reviewing the difference between Korea and other countries, this paper suggests main principles and directions of urban planning, alignment of rail line, partnership of project stakeholder in the establishment of transfer system in the railway station in the future.

  • In order to investigate the voltage drop compensation effect of AT for domestic railway vehicle base, the parameters of AT voltage drop of railroad car base are Z3 (Impedance of feeder line), Xn ( Distance from railroad vehicle to AT to SS), and Dn (distance between both ATs of railway vehicle).In addition, when installed in a SSP for a railway vehicle base, there is no AT and feeder line in the railway vehicle base except for the SSP for the main line and the SSP for the railway vehicle base, so that if zero or ignored, the AC single-phase two- It can be confirmed that it becomes a form.

  • This paper show communication network scheme problem for the railway is solved which were electrical noise and line break in wayside using rerouting communication line, Considering the availability and the maintainability based on the reliability in design of communication networks. At first, Self-Healing Ring algorithm is suggested in that solution which is satisfied with above requirements. And also, in the advanced type, Dual Master scheme is suggested that the problem which is occurred in line break of both main and sub line at the same time can be solved using DMSHR(Dual Master Self Healing Ring). Therefore total reliability in railway system is going to be advanced using DMSHR scheme.

  • This paper deals with power integration of large urban railway systems for improvement of regenerative energy utilization. The main idea of this paper is that the integration of railway power systems will increase efficiency through sharing regenerative energy. To verify the effects of this system, case studies for Seoul Metro Line has been performed. Where railway data of Seoul Subway Line 5 and Line 7 are used. In this work, the integrated railway system is modelled using Compaq Visual Fortran.

  • The Hyundai Rotem company is due to be conducted the main line Speed Qualification Test as regulated by CFR for SEPTA EMU and SCRRA Bi-level coach project. The regulated test items per 49CFR213.345 are wheel/rail interaction forces and carbody/truck accelerations during running on main line. Therefore the special two sets of instrumented wheelset (IWS) per each project have been made for measuring the interaction forces between wheel and rail at four wheels of one truck during running on main line. In this paper, regarding Speed Qualification Test, the required test items and data analysis method per 49CFR213.345 and the preparation status of instrumented wheelsets (IWS) are introduced.
