  • Prestressed concrete I-girders were used in the bridge applications in the early 1950s. During the last four decades, the most widely used girder length of bridges have been below 30 meters. The main objective of this study is to develope the alternative section for widely spaced girder of 30 meters span bridge. Girder spacing, the number of strands and compressive strength of concrete are major parameters for widely spaced girders. The optimal girder spacing is determined through the parameter studies of design using widely spaced girders. 30m span bridges of widely girder spacing must use high-strength concrete. Although the basic unit cost of concrete is higher for high-strength concrete, it may be partially or even fully offset by reduced quantities of concrete as result of the smaller number of girders used. High-strength concrete girders have more prestressing strands per girder, but the total number of strands for all of the girders is less than that required for the larger number of normal-strength concrete girders. It could design PSC-I Birdge with widely spaced girder owing to high-strength concrete.

  • The brake judder comes from non-uniformities in the tire/wheel assembly caused by mechanical effects such as a brake torque variation (BTV). A disc thickness variation (DTV) related with the kinematic behavior of the disc was investigated a main source of BTV. In this study, a dynamic model with brake corner assembly of full vehicle using MSC.ADAMS was correlated by experiment of judder phenomenon. Judder was generated and correlated systematically by judder experiment in chassis and brake dynamometer from variation in the thickness of the disc. Also it has been found a judder transfer path and variation of the braking pressure. Through analysis of transfer function and movement of subsystem caused by BTV generation, design parameters have been found. Based on the results obtained from parameter study of suspension module, the effective design process and developed model with brake corner assembly was suggested for vibration reduction of steering wheel caused by the judder phenomenon.

  • The paper presents the design of a segmented type synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) to increase its torque and power factor. The main feature of a segmented type synchronous reluctance motor is the flux barrier. Thus, the design process to find optimum value of various geometric parameters including flux barrier will be explained. Optimum value of each parameter is found where the d, q inductance difference and saliency ratio are maximized because these inductance characteristics are related to torque and power factor. Finite Element Analysis will be used to simulate motor characteristics. Analysis results of redesigned SynRM show higher saliency ratio over 10 and improved value of maximum power factor.

  • The object of this paper is to evaluate the surface roughness using the experimental equation of surface roughness, which is developed in turning by an orthogonal array method. $L_9{3^4}$ orthogonal array method, one of fractional factorial design has been used to study effects of main cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut, on the surface roughness. And the analysis of variance (ANOVA)-test has been used to check the significance of cutting parameters. Using the result of ANOVA-test, the experimental equation of surface roughness, which consists of only significant cutting parameter - feed rate, has been developed. The coefficient of determination of this equation is 0.962.

  • This paper proposes apractical design method for ship-to-ship missiles' autopilot. When the pre-designed analogue autopilot is implemented in digital way, theygenerally suffer from severe performance degradation and instability problem even for a sufficiently small sampling time. Also, aerodynamic uncertainties can affect the overall stability and this happens more severely when the nonlinear autopilot is digitally implemented. In order to realize a practical autopilot, two main issues, digital implementation problem and compensation for the aerodynamic uncertainties, are considered in this paper. MIMO (multi-input multi-output) nonlinear autopilot is presented first and the input and output of the missile are discretized for implementation. In this step, the discretization effect is compensated by designing an additional control input. Finally, we design a parameter adaptation law to compensate the control performance. Stability analysis and 6-DOF (degree-of-freedom) simulations are presented to verify the proposed adaptive autopilot.

  • This paper presents a numerical study on the overall performance and local flow characteristics of the sirocco fan. The effects of impeller and volute shape distribution on the performance of the sirocco fan were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code and a DOE (design of experiments) software. At present, our attention was focused on the relation of the results of DOE and the performance of the sirocco fan. As a main result of the optimization, the performance of the sirocco fan was successfully improved. Also, detailed effects of geometric parameter of impeller and volute in the sirocco fan were discussed.

  • In this paper, the guaranteed cost filtering design method for linear time delay systems with convex bounded uncertainties in discrete-time case is presented. The uncertain parameters are assumed to be unknown but belonging to known convex compact set of polytotype less conservative than norm bounded parameter uncertainty. The main purpose is to design a stable filter which minimizes the guaranteed cost. The sufficient condition for the existence of filter, the guaranteed cost filter design method, and the upper bound of the guaranteed cost are proposed. Since the proposed sufficient conditions are LMI(linear matrix inequality) forms in terms of all finding variables, all solutions can be obtained simultaneously by means of powerful convex programming tools with global convergence assured. Finally, a numerical example is given to check the validity of the proposed method.

  • We investigate a systematic design procedure of automatic rule generation of fuzzy logic based controllers for highly nonlinear dynamic systems such as an engine dynamic modle. By "automatic rule generation" we mean autonomous clustering or collection of such meaningful transitional relations from one conditional subspace to another. During the design procedure, we also consider optimaly control strategies such as minimum squared error, near minimum time, minimum energy or combined performance critiera. Fuzzy feedback control systems designed by our method have the properties of closed-loop stability, robustness under parameter variabitions, and a certain degree of optimality. Most of all, the main advantage of the proposed approach is that reliability can be potentially increased even if a large grain of uncertainty is involved within the control system under consideration. A numerical example is shown in which we apply our strategic fuzzy controller dwsign to a highly nonlinear model of engine idling speed control.d control.

  • The development of high voltage Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) have given new device advantage in the areas where they compete with conventional GTO (Gate Turnoff Thyristor) technology. The IGBT combines the advantages of a power MOSFET (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) and a bipolar power transistor. The change of electrical characteristics for IGBT is mainly coming from the change of characteristics of MOSFET at the input gate and the PNP transistors at the output. The gate oxide structure gives the main influence on the changes in the electrical characteristics affected by environments such as radiation and temperature, etc.. The change of threshold voltage, which is one of the important design parameters, is brought by charge trapping at the gate oxide. In this paper, the electrical characteristics are simulated by SPICE simulation, and the parameters are found to design optimized circuits.

  • Statistical design of experiments was successfully employed to investigate the effect of alternating magnetic field on activation of polycrystalline Si (p-Si) doped as n-type using $\textrm{PH}_3$, by full factorial design of three factors with two levels. In this design, the input variables are graphite size, alternating current, and activation time. The output parameter, sheet resistance, is analyzed in terms of the primary effects and multi-factor interactions. Notably, the three-factor interaction is calculated to be a dominant interaction. The interaction between graphite size and activation time and the main effect of current are important effects compared to the other variables and relevant interactions. Alternating magnetic flux activation is proved a significantly beneficial processing technique.
