  • Experimental study on the unsteady aerodynamics analysis and power consumption of a folding wing is accomplished using a wind tunnel testing. A folding wing model is fabricated and actuated using servo motors. The flapping wing consists of an inboard main wing and an outboard folding wing. The aerodynamic forces and consumed powers of the flapping wing are measured by changing the flapping and folding wings inside a low-speed wind tunnel. In order to calculate the aerodynamic forces, the measured forces are modified using static test data. It was found that the effect of the folding wing on the flapping wing's total lift is small but the effect of the folding wing on the total thrust is larger than the main wing. The folding motion requires the extra use of the servo motor. Thus, the amount of the energy consumption increases when both the wings are actuated together. As the flight speed increases, the power consumption of the folding wing decreases which results in energy saving.

  • In this study, the effect of text content on users in mixed reality was investigated and subjective evaluation was performed using a statistical approach. The position and size of the text were defined as independent variables, and eye comfort and visibility were analyzed as dependent variables. Twenty participants viewed the content for 96 seconds and then performed a related survey rating task. As a result of two-way ANOVA, the interaction between text position and size and the main effect on text size were not statistically significant. The main effect on text position was found to be statistically significant, and as a result of the analysis, the bottom middle was preferred for both eye comfort and visibility.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to introduce the main concepts of statistical testing and effect size and to provide researchers in nursing science with guidance on how to calculate the effect size for the statistical analysis methods mainly used in nursing. Methods: For t-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, regression analysis which are used frequently in nursing research, the generally accepted definitions of the effect size were explained. Results: Some formulae for calculating the effect size are described with several examples in nursing research. Furthermore, the authors present the required minimum sample size for each example utilizing G*Power 3 software that is the most widely used program for calculating sample size. Conclusion: It is noted that statistical significance testing and effect size measurement serve different purposes, and the reliance on only one side may be misleading. Some practical guidelines are recommended for combining statistical significance testing and effect size measure in order to make more balanced decisions in quantitative analyses.

  • The methods controlling the confounding factors were discussed using the data of secondary infertility with induced abortion. Mantel-Haenszel method and logistic model were applied in the analysis to find out which factors were confounding and/or effect modification variables. In the logistic analysis, the main effect of induced abortion, spontaneous abortion, age and interaction effect between induced abortion and spontaneous abortion were chosen as independent variables being regressed into logistic functions. Spontaneons abortion was interpreted as a potential confounder and at the same time potential effect modifier and age was interpreted as potential confounder. Spontaneous abortion was shown to be more important influencing factor than age to the secondary infertility. In the course of logistic analysis, the problem of parameter estimation and hypothesis testing, assessing the fitness of a model, and selection of the best model were briefly explained. For the program of logistic model, FUNCAT Procedure of SAS package was chosen.

  • A cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model for clay is incorporated into an effective stress based seismic response analysis to describe viscous effect of clay layer to sand layer during earthquake. The seismic response against main shock of 1995 Hyogoken Nambu Earthquake is analyzed in the present study. Acceleration responses in both clay layer and just upper liquefiable sand layer are damped due to viscous effect of clay. A cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model for clay was implemented into a FEM code, and $Newmark{\beta}$ method was employed for the time discretization in the finite element formulation. Seismic responses were simulated by numerical method with recorded data at Port Island, Kobe, Japan. As results of this study, it was found that a cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model can give good description of dynamic behavior characteristics including viscoelastic effect.

  • PURPOSE: The main purpose of this meta-analysis study was to identify the degree-of-effect size and the variables for the effects of manual physical therapy on myofascial pain syndrome. METHODS: This study collected six studies published between 2015.01.01 and 2019.12.31. The analysis result verified nine effect size data. The random-effect model was chosen because of the heterogeneity of the data. RESULTS: First, the full case showed the largest mean effect size of 2.297 (p < .001). Second, the size of the effect based on the fascial distortion model (FDM) intervention showed an effect size of 4.654 (p < .001). • A study for the structural strength analysis on the doubler plate subjected to the axial, biaxial in-plane compression and shear load has been performed through the systematic evaluation process. In order to estimate the proper static strength of doubler plate, non-linear elasto-plastic analysis is introduced. Gap element modeling for contact effect between main plate and doubler is prepared and nonlinear analysis procedures are illustrated based on MSC/N4W . In addition, some design guides are suggested through the consideration of several important effects such as corrosion of main plate, doubler width, doubler length and doubler thickness. Finally theses results are compared with developed design formula based on the buckling strength and general trends and design guides according to the variation of design parameters are discussed.

  • A model to describe the effect of stator slotting in the airgap region of a linear brushless permanent magnet motor (LBLPMM) is proposed for analytical prediction of magnetic field distribution. It is a two-dimensional model based on superposition of the effect of stator slotting and main field due to permanent magnet (PM) without stator slotting. The effect of stator slotting is expressed in form of a generalized equation, which is obtained by numerical analysis and is a function of motor geometric parameters, so the proposed model effectively accounts for the effect of stator slotting in the airgap field distribution according to change of motor geometry or relative motion of stator and armature. Results of prediction from the proposed model are compared with corresponding finite element analysis.
