Nonlinear Predictive Control with Multiple Models (다중 모델을 이용한 비선형 시스템의 예측제어에 관한 연구)

  • In the paper, we propose a predictive control scheme using multiple neural network-based prediction models. To construct the multiple models, we select several specific values of a parameter whose variation affects serious control performance in the plant. Among the multiple prediction models, we choose one that shows the best predictions for future outputs of the plant by a switching technique. Based on a nonlinear programming method, we calculate the current process input in the nonlinear predictive control system with multiple prediction models. The proposed control method is shown to be very effective when a parameter of the plant changes or the time delay, if it exists, varies. It is also shown that the proposed method is successfully applied for the control of suspension in a electro-magnetic levitation system.

  • Because of the advantages such as the zero electrical resistance effect that disappears in the vicinity of the absolute temperature and the magnetic levitation effect, the superconducting applications are being tried in a variety of fields. But, those have faced many difficulties in the practical use because of the difficulty for the realization of the superconducting critical temperature. Recently, however, because the high-temperature super conductors was discovered newly which show superconductivity more than $30^{\circ}K$, the application researches based on it are being tried in various fields. Therefore, this paper examines the possibilities and issues by surveying the high temperature superconducting applications to electrical power system.

  • The wear of the third track power collector is one of the essential check factors for safe train operation. Rapid wear of the current collector accelerates the line of the catenary. In addition, the arc generated when the catenary line is turned off causes a malfunction in the minute portion of the catenary line, thereby shortening the life of the catenary line. In this paper, to analyze the mechanical wear of the current collector during driving according to the environmental factor of the Maglev(magnetic levitation train), it was divided into dry season and wet season. the wear of metallized collector, copper alloy collector and carbon collector were measured and compared with each other. The wear rate was measured according to the position of the wire, the position of the power collector and the position per hour. Microscopic photographs of the cross section and surface of the power collector were measured. The electrical currents of the metallized collector, copper alloy collector and carbon collector were measured.

  • The construction of the transportation history database system is to serve the scheduling and seat inventory controling. Recently, lots of countries have been faced with the advance era because of the new railway transportation system, like the high speed railway and/or magnetic levitation vehicle system. This can be reasonably translated as those of operators are willing to provide the more various and high quality schedule to the customer. Those operators' these ideas make possible to forecast that scheduling process is going to be complicated more and more The seat inventory control, so to speak Yield Management System(YMS), goes a long way to improve the total passenger revenue at the railway business. The YMS forecasts the number of the last reservation value(DCP# END) and recommends the optimal values on the seat sales. The history database system contains infra-data(ie, train, seat, sales) that will be the foundation of scheduling and seat inventory control application programs. The development of the application programs are reserved to the next step. The database system is installed on the pc platform(IBM compatible), using the DB2(RDBMS). And at next step, the platform and DBMS will be considered whether they can meet the users' requirement or not.

  • This paper presents the overall measurement system for on-line test of super-speed maglev train. The super-speed maglev train is composed of vehicle, propulsion, power, and so on. In order to evaluate and diagnose for sub-system, we made overall measurement system. Just like the other measurement system, it is designed to distributed type. The hardware is consist of SCXI, PXI, Terminal, UPS, and so forth. It is installed on a train, control room, power room and track to collect lots of signals. The software controls hardware system, monitors main data such as inverter current, converter voltage. Using the measurement system, we evaluated a lot of performances for vehicle, track, and so forth. Through the developed system have improved reliability and safety for super-speed maglev train.

Development of a Cost-Effective Process for the Fabrication of Single Grain $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ Bulk Superconductors (단결정 $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ 벌크 초전도체 제조를 위한 경제적 공정의 개발)

  • To reduce the processing cost of the single grain REBCO (RE: Rare-earth elements) bulk superconductors, a cost-effective process should be developed. One possible way of developing the cost-effective process is the use of low-cost precursor powders. In this study, the single grain YBCO superconductors were fabricated using a home made powder. $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Y123) powders were synthesized at $850-900^{\circ}C$ in air by the powder calcination method with repeated crushing and heat treatment steps. The processing parameters for the fabrication of single grain Y123 bulk superconductors, $T_{max}$ (maximum temperature), $T_p$ (peritectic temperature) and a cooling rate through $T_p$ were optimized. To enhance the flux pinning capacity of the single grain Y123 samples, $Y_2BaCuO_5$ (Y211) particles were dispersed in the Y123 matrix by adding $Y_2O_3$ powder to the calcined Y123 powder. Applying the optimized processing condition, the single grain Y123 superconductors with $T_c=91\;K$ and $J_c=1.5{\times}10^4\;A/cm^2$ at 2 T were successfully fabricated using a home made powder. The levitation forces and trapped magnetic field at 77 K measured using a Nd-B-Fe permanent magnet of 5300 G were 47 N and 3000 G, respectively, which are comparable to those obtained for the samples fabricated using a commercial grade Y123 powders.

A Study on Temperature Rising near Fatigue Crack Tip at Cryogenic Temperature (극저온 환경에서의 피로균열 선단의 온도상승에 관한 연구)

  • The structural materials for cryogenic technology have been recently developed to support the many modern large-scale application from superconducting magnets for nuclear fusion reactor, magnetic levitation railway to LNG tankers. However it is pointed out that quenching phenomenon is one of the serious problems for the integrity of these applications, which is mainly attributed to the rapid temperature rising in the material due to some extrinsic factors of structures. From the viewpoint of fracture mechanics, it is therefore very important to clarify the mechanism of temperature rising of structural material due to cyclic loading at cryogenic temperature. From this purpose, fatigue test was carried out for high manganese steel at liquid helium temperature(4.2K) using triangular stress waveform to identify both the mechanism of temperature rising near crack tip and the effect of loading stress waveform on temperature rising near crack tip and the effect of loading stress waveforms on temperature rising. As the results, two types of temperature rising, that is, regular and burst types were observed. And a periodical temperature rising corresponding to the stress waveforms was also found. The peaks of the temperature rising were recorded near both the maximum and the minimum values of the applied stress. The sudden temperature rises, which indicated the higher values than those of periodical temperature rises under the repetition of stress, were observed at the final region of crack growth. It was shown that the peak values of the temperature rising increased with stress intensity factor range.

Optimal Design of Permanent Magnet Thrust Bearings (영구자석형 스러스트 베어링의 최적 설계)

  • In this paper, we describe a process for optimally designing a ring-type permanent magnet thrust bearing. The bearing consists of two sets of permanent magnet rings. One set is located inside the other set. An axial offset between the two sets creates axial force, which results in a thrust bearing function. In order to realize an optimal design of the bearing where the required load capacity of the bearing is achieved with the least magnet volume, we derived analytical design equations by adopting the equivalent current sheet (ECS) method. We considered the following two types of magnet arrays: axial arrays and Halbach arrays. These two types of arrays are optimized using the analytical design equations. The results of the optimization are verified using three dimensional (3D) finite element analyses (FEA). The results show that the Halbach array can achieve the required load capacity with less amount of permanent magnet than the axial array does. The efficacy of the ECS method is also verified by using 3D FEA. It is found that the accuracy of ECS method is more sensitive to the underlying assumptions for the Halbach array than for the axial array.
