The use of soft magnetic materials have been increasing in the various industrial fields according to the increasing demand for high performance, automatic, miniaturing equipments in the recent our life. In this study, we investigated the effect of factors on the core loss and magnetic properties of electrical steel and soft magnetic composites. Furthermore, we reviewed the major efforts to reduce the core loss and improve the soft magnetic properties in the two main soft magnetic materials. Domain purification which results from reduced density of defects in cleaner electrical steels is combined with large grains to reduce hysteresis loss. The reduced thickness and the high electrical conductivity reduce the eddy current component of loss. Furthermore, the coating applied to the surface of electrical steel and texture control lead to improve high permeability and low core loss. There is an increasing interest in soft magnetic composite materials because of the demand for miniaturization of cores for power electronic applications. The SMC materials have a broad range of potential applications due to the possibility of true 3-D electromagnetic design and higher frequency operation. Grain size, sintering temperature, and the degree of porosity need to be carefully controlled in order to optimize structure-sensitive properties such as maximum permeability and low coercive force. The insulating coating on the powder particles in SMCs eliminates particle-to-particle eddy current paths hence minimizing eddy current losses, but it reduces the permeability and to a small extent the saturation magnetization. The combination of new chemical composition with optimum powder manufacturing processes will be able to result in improving the magnetic properties in soft magnetic composite materials, too.

Thin-gauged 3% silicon steel sheets having a highly grain-oriented texture have been developed as a core material for applications of middle-frequency (400 Hz ${\sim}$ 10 kHz) devices. The newly developed sheets with a tension coating showed an excellent reduction in iron loss at 400 Hz (iron loss at 1.0 T and 400 Hz = 4.677 W/kg, iron loss at 1.5 T and 400 Hz = 9.742 W/kg) due to high magnetic induction, $B_{10}$(measured induction at 1000 A/m), of over 1.9 T. In cases of frequencies below 400 Hz, magnetic induction, $B_{10}$, of the sample plays a major role to reduce its iron loss as excitation induction increases, whereas, in case of frequency of 1 kHz, thickness dependence becomes dominant due to a lower iron loss at relatively thinner sample. The sheets with a high magnetic induction, therefore, are favorable for high excitation induction (over 1.0 T) and low excitation frequency (below 400 Hz) applications, whereas the sheets that can reduce eddy current loss by reducing thickness or domain wall width are advantageous for low excitation induction (below 1.0 T) and high excitation frequency (around 1 kHz) applications.
Nowadays more attention is paid to the developing high efficiency electrical machines for energy saving and protection of natural resources. In general, the electromagnetic losses appearing in electrical machines are widely classified into copper loss, core loss and rotor loss. Particularly, in permanent magnet (PM) machines, core loss forms a larger portion of the total losses than in another machine. So, satisfactory prediction of core loss at the design or analysis stage of PM machines is essential to active high efficiency and high performance. This paper deals with analysis of magnetic field distribution due to geometry of stator core for magnetic core loss calculation of multi-pole PM synchronous machine.
The measurement of stator core loss for an induction motor at each manufacturing process is carried out in this paper. Iron loss in the stator core of induction motor changes after each manufacturing process due to the mechanical stress, which can cause the deterioration of the magnetic performances. This paper proposes a new iron loss measuring system of the stator core in an induction motor, which can be applied to the case when the distribution of magnetic flux density is not uniform along the magnetic flux path. In the system, the iron loss is calculated based on the induced voltage of the B-search coil and exciting current.
For improving the heat loss of a refrigerator around door gasket, it is very important to reduce the amount of rubber magnet used, of which thermal conductivity is much higher than the plastics, and enhancing the magnetic properties of rubber magnet itself is crucial for this. In the present study, therefore, a relationship between the optimum conditions of rubber magnet fabrication process and raw material compositions in the ferrite powder/CPE binder compounds was investigated for finding a way to enhance the magnetic properties of rubber magnet. Magnetic attraction forces of a sample rubber magnet was measured as function of distance, and thermal properties of the sample ferrite powder/CPE binder compound were analyzed with TG/DTA thermal analyzer. As a results, a rubber magnet strip with enhanced magnetic properties was expected to be fabricated, of which raw material compound was prepared by compounding with higher ferrite magnetic powder concentration.
The magnetic reconnection mechanism is a primary candidate for "flare" processes in solar coronal regions. Numerical simulations of two-dimensional magnetic reconnection are carried out for four different cases: (1) adiabatic condition with constant resistivity, (2) adiabatic condition with temperature-dependent resistivity, (3) energetics with radiation loss and constant resistivity and (4) energetics with radiation loss and temperature-dependent resistivity. It is found that the thermal instability prompts the magnetic reconnection process, thus increasing the conversion rate of magnetic energy into kinematic energy of the fluid. We demonstrated that the observed microflares can be accounted for by our magnetic reconnection models, when the effects of the radiation loss and the temperature-dependent resistivity are taken into account.

AC loss which is generated in an HTS wire varies with the direction of the magnetic field. This paper calculated and measured the AC loss in the HTS double pancake windings. Brandt equation is used to calculate the loss by perpendicular magnetic field. Calorimetric method is used to measure the AC loss. Results of calculated AC loss are compared with measured AC loss.

This paper describes characteristics for insertion losses of Isolator have an effect on material parameter. One purpose of the paper is to present insertion loss on this resonator for magnetic loss, dielectric loss, magnetic field and saturation magnetization. Another is to study the effect of propeller resonator on response characteristics. In this paper, the analysis and measurement of the response characteristics were carried out for the isolator prototype. The measurement results agreed on the simulation results and acquire insertion loss $0.18\;{\sim}\;0.24dB$, return loss 27dB, isolation 27dB and bandwidth 500MHz on this condition saturation magnetization 550G, dielectric loss 0.0004, magnetic loss 20 and dielectric constant 14.
The structure, shape, size, and magnetic properties of Ni$_{0.5}$Cu$_{0.1}$Zn$_{0.4}$Fe$_2$O$_4$ have been investigated as a function of annealing temperatures. In order to control the microwave absorbing properties of ferrite-rubber composite and the complex losses (magnetic loss and conduction loss), the effect of carbon addition was also studied. It was found that the coercive force decreased with increasing heat-treatment temperatures. Relative complex permeability and reflection loss were measured by the network analyzer. As a result, the natural resonance occurred in the low frequency tinge, and the matching frequency of the ferrite-rubber composite prepared at 130$0^{\circ}C$ was found to be lower. As heat-treatment temperatures were increased, the magnetic loss ($\mu$$_{r}$", $\mu$$_{r}$′) and the dielectric loss ($\varepsilon$$_{r}$"/$\varepsilon$$_{r}$′) were increased. It was caused that the absorption characteristics of the absorber were improved. The conduction loss and magnetic loss were expected to be occurred together because two matching frequencies were shown with carbon addition. It was confirmed that the matching frequency of the microwave absorber could be controlled by controlling heat-treatment temperatures and carbon additions.ons.tions.

Using a magnetic separation process, pond ash generated in thermoelectric power plants was separated into magnetic materials and nonmagnetic materials in order to make it into a raw material of geopolymers and unburned carbon; screening characteristics according to the particle sizes and magnet strength levels of the pond ash were observed. Based on the results of magnetic separation into fine particle (0.15~0.84 mm) and rough particle (0.84~2.4 mm) pond ash using 3000 G magnets, the weight fraction and ignition loss of nonmagnetic materials were found to be higher than those of magnetic materials, regardless of the particle size. In the case of fine particle pond ash, when the magnet strength was increased from 3000 G to 10000 G, even those materials that were weakly magnetic were separated into magnetic materials, leading to drastic increases in the weight fraction of magnetic materials, such that the ignition loss accounted for 66.9 % (22.8 wt%) of the entire ignition loss of 32.6 wt%, despite of the low ignition loss. Based on the results of measurement of the compressive strength levels of geopolymers made of magnetic-separated rough particle pond ash, the compressive strength of geopolymers made of magnetic materials containing small amounts of unburned carbon was found to be 20 MPa.
