  • This paper shows the characteristics of microwaves in a plasma medium bounded by a waveguide. A standing wave detector which has VSWR less than 1.05 is designed and constructed. The electromagnetic waves which propagate through the plasma is reflected partly by the interaction between the external magnetic fields and plasma. The plasma is consisted of the electrons and positive ions ionized by high temperature of tungsten filament inserted in the waveguide. The transmitted power through the plasma was reduced by the amount of 1.5db from the reference.

  • Superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) is a sensitive detector of magnetic flux signals. Up to now, the main application of SQUIDs has been measurements of magnetic flux signals in the frequency range from near DC to several MHz. Recently, cryogenic low-noise radio-frequency (RF) amplifiers based on DC SQUID are under development aiming to detect RF signals with sensitivity approaching quantum limit. In this paper, we review the recent progress of cryogenic low-noise RF amplifiers based on SQUID technology.

  • Here we report an integrated microdevice consisting of an efficient passive mixer, a magnetic separation chamber, and a capillary electrophoretic microchannel in which DNA barcode assay, target pathogen separation, and barcode DNA capillary electrophoretic analysis were performed sequentially within 30 min for multiplex pathogen detection at the single-cell level. The intestine-shaped serpentine 3D micromixer provides a high mixing rate to generate magnetic particle-pathogenic bacteria-DNA barcode labelled AuNP complexes quantitatively. After magnetic separation and purification of those complexes, the barcode DNA strands were released and analyzed by the microfluidic capillary electrophoresis within 5 min. The size of the barcode DNA strand was controlled depending on the target bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Salmonella typhimurium), and the different elution time of the barcode DNA peak in the electropherogram allows us to recognize the target pathogen with ease in the monoplex as well as in the multiplex analysis. In addition, the quantity of the DNA barcode strand (~104) per AuNP is enough to be observed in the laser-induced confocal fluorescence detector, thereby making single-cell analysis possible. This novel integrated microdevice enables us to perform rapid, sensitive, and multiplex pathogen detection with sample-in-answer-out capability to be applied for biosafety testing, environmental screening, and clinical trials.

  • Partial response maxim likelihood (PRML) is a powerful and indispensable detection scheme for perpendicular magnetic recording channels. The performance of PRML can be improved by incorporating a noise prediction scheme into branch metric computations of Viterbi algorithm (VA). However, the systems constructed by VA have shortcomings in the form of high complexity and cost. In this connection, a new simple detection scheme is proposed by exploiting the minimum run-length parameter d=1 of RLL code. The proposed detection scheme have a slicer instead of Viterbi detector and a noise predictor as a feedback filter. Therefore, to improve BER performance, the proposed detection scheme is extended to dual detection scheme for improving the BER performance. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a comparable performance to noise-predictive maximum likelihood (NPML) detector with less complexity when the partial response (PR) target is (1,2,1).

  • When codeword sequence has two or less successive transitions, the performance of 4th-order partial response maximum-likelihood (PRML) detector can be improved. However, the code leads to an unacceptable loss of performance due to the low code rate. For a rate 718 code that MTR constraint (i) of each codeword is limited to 2, and j is allowed to be 3 when codewords are connected, we modified the trellis of PRML detector to combine j=2 with J=3. We confirmed that the rate 718 coded 4th-order PRML detection with combined trellis achieves the SNR gain more than 2dB compared to the rate 819 coded 4u_order PRML detection at 10-s BER in high-density longitudinal or perpendicular magnetic recording systems.

  • Recently underwater geophysical problems for historical relics or UXO's are raised frequently. This study includes the applicabilities and limitations of the recent underwater metal detector and domestic case stories for underwater survey by electrical and magnetic method. Direct or indirect case stories are electrical and vertical magnetic gradiometry surveys beneath Han-river bottom for planning subway tunnel, electrical exploration on lake-bottom, electrical exploration on the tidal flats using high-power transmitter, and borehole three-component magnetic and electromagnetic surveys for detecting the undersea objects. A design of potable real-time, high-speed measurement system using multi-channel array sensors is also introduced here. Further study will be focussed on practical field applications of the fast water-bottom scanning system which is lately required by actual field.

  • Generally, a optical encoder is used to detect velocity for controling the electronic motor, the resolver is used when it is hard structurally to adjust encoder to electronic motor. so, the resolver has weakness in price in compare with encoder, but in case of controling the position of a magnetic polar, the resolver has stead detecting the absolute position of a rotator. This study is about the digital programing velocity detector which uses a minimum hardware : filter for detecting the revolve speed and rotor position of the motor by means of the resolver.

  • In this paper a fixed-delay trellis search with decision feedback (FDTrS/DF) for high-density DVD systems (4.7-15GB) is proposed and implemented with FPGA. The proposed FDTrS/DF is derived by transforming the binary tree search structure into trellis search structure implying that FDTrS/DF performs better than the singnal detection techniques based on tree search structure such as FDTS/DF and SSD/DF. Advantages of FDTrS/DF are significant reductions in hardware complexity due to the unique structure of FDTrS composed of only one trellis stage requiring no traceback procedure usually implemented in the Viterbi detector. Also in this paper the PDFS/DF and SSD/DF orginally proposed for high-density magnetic recording systems are modified for the DVD system and compared with the proposed FDTrS/DF. In order to increase speed in the FPGA implementation the pipelining technique and absolute branch metric (instead of square branch metric) are applied. The proposed FDTrS/DF is shown to provide the best performance among various signal detection techniques such as PRML, DFE, FDTS/DF and SSD/DF even with a small hardware complexity.

  • This paper describes the development of scientific payload system onboard the KSR-III. The ozone detector(UVR), Langmuir electron probe(LEP), airglow photometer(AGP), and magnetometer(MAG) constitute this system. The purpose of the ozone detector is to measure the ozone density profile and the LEP measures the electron density and temperature in the ionosphere over the Korean Peninsula. The AGP detects airglow in the mesosphere over the Korean Peninsular. The MAG provides rocket attitude and the magnetic fluctuation information during the flight. With the developed payloads, the ground calibration tests and the environmental tests have been performed.

  • The Purpose of this thesis is to develop a vehicle classification algorithm using single Magnetometer detector during presence time of vehicle detection and is to examine a held application from field test. We collected data using Magnetometer detector on freeway and used digital data to change voltage values according to magnetic flux density in analysis. We collected these datum during the presence time and then obtained characteristics from wave form in these datum. Based on these characteristics, We used the following three methods for this a1gorithm :1. Template Matching Method,2. Neural Network Method using Back-propagation Algorithm 3. Complex Method using changed slope points and mixing method 1, 2. Of course, Before processing of over three methods, These data were processed normalizing by 20, 40 of size in only X axis and moving average by 0, 3, 4, 5 of size. Vehicle classification were Processed in three steps ; 2, 3, 5 types classification. In 2 types vehicle classification, recognition rate is 83% by template matching method.
