  • SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) drives require the accurate position and speed information of the rotor. These informations are generally provided by a shaft encoder or resolver. High temperature, EMI, and dust may make detection performance deteriorate. Therefore, the elimination of the position and speed sensor is desirable. In this paper, a nonlinear adaptive observer using the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) is proposed. The rotor speed and position are estimated by the adaptation law using the real and estimated currents. The stability of the adaptive observer is proved by Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed methods are implemented with TMS320C31 DSP. Experimental results prove that the observer has a good estimation performance of the rotor speed and position despite of the parameter variations and loads, and the speed control can be accomplished in the wide speed range.

  • In this paper, a new estimation algorithm for the rotor speed for SRM drives is described. The algorithm is implemented by the binary observer. The stability and robustness of the binary observer for the parameter variations of the SRM are Proved by variable structure control theory. Variable speed control of the SRM is accomplished by the estimated speed. Experiment results verify that the MRAS observer is able to estimate the speed.

  • Speed sensorless modes of operation are becoming standard solution in the area of electric drives. This paper presents flux estimator and speed estimator for the speed sensorless vector control of induction motors. The proposed sensorless methods are based on the model reference adaptive system (MRAS) observer and adaptive speed observer (ASO). The proposed speed estimation algorithm can be employed in the power control of grid connected induction generator for wind power applications. Two proposed schemes are verified through computer simulation PSIM and compared their simulation results.

  • This paper investigates a speed sensorless control of induction motor. The control strategy is based on MRAS (Model Reference Adaptive System) using load-torque observer as a reference model for flux estimation. The speed response of conventional MRAS controller characteristics is affected by variations of load torque disturbance. In the proposed system, the speed control characteristics using a load-torque observer control isn't affected by a load torque disturbance. Simulation results are presented to prove the effectiveness of the adaptive sliding mode controller for the drive variable load of induction motor.

  • MRAS observer, which is based on adaptive control theory, estimates speed and position by using optimal observer gains on the basis of Lyapunov stability theory. However, in case of MRAS theory, position estimation error is in existence because of non-linearity for inductance variation and limit cycles for position estimation. The adaptive sliding observer based on the variable structure control theory estimates the speed and position for zero of estimation error by using the sliding surface equal to the error between speed and position estimation. The binary observer estimates the rotor speed and rotor flux with alleviation of the high-frequency chattering, and retains the benefits achieved in the conventional sliding observer, such as robustness to parameter and disturbance variations. The speed and position sensorless control of SRM under the load and inductance variation is verified by the experimental results.

  • The mechanical vibration of a PM synchronous motor at low speeds due to the back emf harmonics may be serious problems in some application such as MDPS(Motor driven power steering), electric vehicles. In this paper, torque ripple reduction for an interior PM synchronous motor including back emf harmonics is proposed. The dq flux linkage harmonics of the permanent magnet are estimated on real time by using the dq currents of the real system and the model of the MRAS observer. Based on the estimated flux linkage harmonics, the dq harmonic currents for reducing the torque ripples are compensated on the dq reference currents. The estimation of the flux linkage harmonics by the MRAS observer and the torque ripple reduction of the proposed algorithm was verified by the simulation and experiment.

  • The speed control of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) needs the accurate position and speed data of rotor. This information is generally provided by a shaft encoder or resolver. In some cases, the environment is which the motor operates may cause difficulties in maintaining the satisfactory position detection performance. Therefore, the elimination of the position and speed sensor has gained wide attention. In this paper, a new algorithm for estimation of rotor position and speed is described for the SRM drives. This method uses is nonlinear adaptive observer using the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System). The observer is proved by Lyapunov Stability Theory. • This paper presents a method for on-line estimation of rotor time constant of induction motor. The proposed method applies a model reference adaptive system(MRAS) using rotor flux vector. The MRAS consists of two independent observers to estimate the rotor flux vector; one based on voltage equations of rotor flux vector, the other based on current equations of them. The MRAS utilizes concept of auxiliary variables to normalize observer output and decrease high-frequency components of its input. Experimental results verify the validity and usefulness of proposed method
