Modern trams with a super capacitor have gained a lot of attention in recent years due to its reliability, convenience, energy conservation and environmental friendliness. Because of its special charging characteristic, the traditional charging structure and control strategy cannot satisfy its charging requirements. This paper presents a new charging topology for fast charging modern trams with a super capacitor and it designs a controller using continuous control set model predictive control (CCS-MPC). There are three contributions in this paper. First, a new charging structure is designed and its mathematics model is derived. The cascade structure is adopted instead of the parallel structure to simplify the control process and to keep the rated power of the controllable part low. Second, a MPC control strategy is proposed to satisfy the charging characteristic. The optimal control signal can be obtained by solving the designed optimization problem. The optimal control signal is related to the discrete control action. In addition, mapping between the continuous control signal and the discrete control action is designed. Third, a semi-physical experimental platform is built to verify the proposed topology and control method. The simulation model and experiment platform are built to verify the correctness of the new structure and its control method. The results obtained show that the new topology can work effectively.
The power spectrum of the galaxy distribution is accurately measured up to wavelengths over $100\;h^{-1}$ Mpc from the CfA 1 and 2 catalogs. We find that our results agree with power spectra calculated by others from smaller samples of optical, radio and infrared galaxies. The power spectrum of an open CDM model (${\Omega}h$ = 0.2 and ${\delta}_8$ = 1; see below for definitions) best approximates the observed power spectrum. The power spectrum of the standard COM model (${\Omega}h$ = 0.5 and ${\delta}_8$ = 1) is inconsistent with the observed one at the 99% confidence level. Our best estimation of the corresponding correlation function in real space is ${\xi}(r)\;=\;(r/6.2h^{-1}Mpc)^{-1.8}$ for r < $20h^{-1}$ Mpc.
Level control in the steam generator of a nuclear power plant is important process. But, the low power operation of nuclear power plant causes nonlinear characteristics and non minimum phase characteristics (swell and shrink), change of delay. So, we can't lead good results with conventional PID controller. Particularly, the design of controller with constraints is necessary. This paper introduces MPC(Model Predictive Control) with constraints and designs a good performance MPC controller in spite of the input constraints and nonlinear characteristics, non-minimum phase characteristics

This paper presents an event-triggered model predictive controller for adaptive cruise control system with sampled and quantized-data. Unlike existing works, a longitudinal continuous-time model is used for the predictive control of the system. To efficiently utilize network resources, event-trigger scheme is employed, which allows limited sensor and actuator signal satisfying the condition that the measurement of errors is over the ratio of a trigger level. The proposed control gain is obtained by solving a convex problem satisfying several linear matrix inequalities at every sampling times. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

In this paper, a voltage-based model predictive control (MPC) scheme for a modular multilevel converter is used to reduce switching loss. The proposed method calculates an offset voltage that clamps the switching operation of submodules in which the current greatly flows at every sampling period by using the reference phase voltage and the reference phase current. To use the offset voltage, the proposed method converts the current-based MPC to the voltage-based MPC. The proposed voltage-based MPC then generates a new reference pole voltage that clamps the switching of submodules by applying the calculated offset voltage to the phase voltage. Therefore, the proposed method can reduce the switching loss by stopping the switching operation of submodules in which the current greatly flows. The switching loss reduction effect of the proposed method is verified by comparing its loss data with those of the conventional MPC method.

In this paper, a problem of event-triggered model predictive control is investigated for continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with input quantization. To efficiently utilize network resources, event-trigger is employed, which transmits limited signals satisfying the condition that the measurement of errors is over the ratio of a certain level. Considering sampling and quantization, continuous Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems are regarded as a sector bounded continuous-time T-S fuzzy systems with input delay. Then, a model predictive controller (MPC) based on parallel distributed compensation (PDC) is designed to optimally stabilize the closed loop systems. The proposed MPC optimize the objective function over infinite horizon, which can be easily calculated and implemented solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for every event-triggered time. The validity and effectiveness are shown that the event triggered MPC can stabilize well the systems with even smaller average sampling rate and limited actuator signal guaranteeing optimal performances through the numerical example.

The mathematical model of a air-conditioning system is generally very complex and difficult to apply to controller design. In this paper, simple models applicable to the controller design are obtained by modeling the air-conditioning system by single-input single-output between compressor speed and indoor temperature, and by multi-input single-output between compressor speed, indoor fan speed and indoor temperature. Using these empirical models, model predictive control(MPC) technique was implemented for indoor temperature control of the air-conditioning system. It has been shown from various experiments that the indoor temperature control based on the MPC scheme yields reasonably good tracking performance with smooth changes in plant inputs. this multi-input multi-output MPC approach can be extended to multi air- conditioning systems where the conventional PID control scheme is very difficult to apply.
In order to satisfy the urgent requirements for the overheating protection of induction motors, an approach that can be used to identify motor temperature has been proposed based on the rotor slots harmonic (RSH) in this paper. One method to accomplish this is to improve the calculation efficiency of the RSH by predicting the stator winding distribution harmonic order by analyzing the harmonics spectrum. Another approach is to increase the identification accuracy of the RSH by suppressing the influence of voltage flashes or current surges during temperature estimation based on model predictive control (MPC). First, an analytical expression of the stator inductance is extracted from a steady-state positive sequence motor equivalent circuit model developed from the rotor flux field orientation. Then a procedure that applies MPC for reducing the identification error of the rotor temperature caused by voltage sag or swell of the power system is given. Due to this work, the efficiency and accuracy of the RSH have been significantly improved and validated our experiments. This work can serves as a reference for the on-line temperature monitoring and overheating protection of an induction motor.
Harmonic current mitigation is vital in power distribution networks owing to the inflow of nonlinear loads, distributed generation, and renewable energy sources. The active power filter (APF) is the current electrical equipment that can dynamically compensate for harmonic distortion and eliminate asymmetrical loads. The compensation performance of an APF largely depends on the control strategy applied to the voltage source inverter (VSI). Model predictive control (MPC) has been demonstrated to be one of the effective control approaches to providing fast dynamic responses. This approach covers different types of power converters due to its several advantages, such as flexible control scheme and simple inclusion of nonlinearities and constraints within the controller design. In this study, a finite control set-MPC technique is proposed for the control of VSIs. Unlike conventional control methods, the proposed technique uses a discrete time model of the shunt APF to predict the future behavior of harmonic currents and determine the cost function so as to optimize current errors through the selection of appropriate switching states. The viability of this strategy in terms of harmonic mitigation is verified in MATLAB/Simulink. Experimental results show that MPC performs well in terms of reduced total harmonic distortion and is effective in APFs.
This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control strategy with finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) based on hierarchical optimization for five-level H-bridge neutral-point-clamped (5L-HNPC) inverter-fed induction motor drives. Fault-tolerant operation is analyzed, and the fault-tolerant control algorithm is improved. Adopting FCS-MPC based on hierarchical optimization, where the voltage is used as the controlled objective, called model predictive voltage control (MPVC), the postfault controller is simplified as a two layer control. The first layer is the voltage jump limit, and the second layer is the voltage following control, which adopts the optimal control strategy to ensure the current following performance and uniqueness of the optimal solution. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify that 5L-HNPC inverter-fed induction motor drives have strong fault tolerant capability and that the FCS-MPVC based on hierarchical optimization is feasible.
