Synthesis and Thermal Degradation of Poly(oxydiethylene adipate urethane) Composites Containing Cloisite 30B and Melamine Phosphate (Cloisite 30B와 멜라민포스페이트를 함유한 Poly(oxydiethylene adipate urethane) Composites의 합성과 열분해 특성)

  • In order to improve the thermal stability of polyurethane, we synthesized poly(adipate urethane) (PAU) and three PAU composites, PAU/30B (2.7 wt% 30B), PAU/MP (2.2 wt% MP), PAU/30B/MP (2.2 wt% 30B and 2.2 wt% MP), from poly(oxydiethylene adipate)-diol (PAD), 4,4'-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), Cloisite 30B (30B), and melamine phosphate (MP). 30B and MP were introduced into the reactant mixture at the initial stage of the esterification between adipic acid and diethylene glycol, so 30B and MP were evenly dispersed in the PAU composites for long period. At temperatures lower than $250^{\circ}C$, the PAU composites were degraded faster than pristine PAU, mainly due to the decomposition of 30B and MP. At higher temperatures, the 30B and MP enhanced the thermal stability of the PAU composites. Compared with the pristine PAU, the thermal decomposition rates of the PAU composites decreased by 13~17%. In air, the residual weights of PAU/30B, PAU/MP, and PAU/30B/MP were 2.4, 2.3, and 7.3 wt% at $700^{\circ}C$, respectively.

The Effect of Hydrophobicity and Amphiphilicity on the Mastoparan B-induced Antibacterial Activity and Hemolytic Activity (Mastoparan B의 항균 활성 및 용혈 작용에 미치는 소수성도와 양친매성의 영향)

  • Tetradecapeptide, Mastoparan B(MP B) and its [$Ala^2$]-, [$Ala^4$]-, [$Ala^6$]-, [$Ala^9$]-MP B derivatives were synthesized, and then their antibacterial and hemolytic activities were assayed to examine the effect of hydrophobicity and amphiphilicity on the MP B-induced those activities. MP B and more hydrophobic [$Ala^2$]-, [$Ala^4$]-MP B showed stronger antibacterial activity and less hydrophobic [$Ala^6$]-MP B than MP B did similar or weaker activity, so more hydrophobic [Ala]-MP B derivative had stronger activity. But more hydrophobic [$Ala^9$]-MP B than MP B showed weaker activity because of its Trp substitution by Ala. On the other hand, [$Ala^2$]- and [$Ala^4$]-MP B showed 100.0% and 69.4% hemolytic activity, but [$Ala^6$]-MP B did the weakest activity(6.1%) and [$Ala^9$]-MP B, weaker activity(26.0%) than MP-B. Therefore, more hydrophobic [Ala]-MP B derivative had stronger activity and the effect of amphiphilicity on the activity was weak.

Pasteurization Efficiency and Physico-chemical Changes of Soymilk HTST Pasteurized Using Microwaves (두유의 마이크로파 고온단시간 살균시 살균효과 및 이화학적 성분 변화)

  • This work was to determine the microbial and physico-chemical changes of HTST-pasteurized soymilk using microwave energy. Soymilk was HTST pasteurized$(at\;90^{\circ}C\;for\;20\;sec)$ by three methods: by heating in a stainless steel tube immersed in a hot water bath(MP0), by heating in a microwave cavity to a defiled temperature and then holding in a hot water bath(MP1), and by both heating and holding in a microwave cavity(MP2). The microbial quality based on the total plate count was in the order of MP0, MP2 and MP1. The three samples pasteurized by different methods showed the similar microbial quality with respect to the coliform count, psychrotrophic bacterial count and phosphatase activity. The destruction of trypsin inhibitor was in the order of MP0, MP1 and MP2. There were no significant differences in pH, titratable acidity, viscosity and vitamin $B_2$ content before and after pasteurization and among the different pasteurization methods. The similar or higher quality retention of the MP1 or MP2 supports the possibility of using microwave energy for the HTST pasteurization of soymilk and other fluid food products.

  • This work was to determine the quality changes of milk with respect to the chemical components when HTST pasteurized by microwave energy. Raw milk was HTST pasteurized $(at\;72^{\circ}C\;for\;15\;sec)$ by three methods; by heating in a stainless steel tube immersed in a hot water bath (MP0), by heating in a microwave cavity to a desired temperature and then holding in a hot water bath (MP1) and by both heating and holding in a microwave cavity (MP2). There were no significant differences in pH and titratable acidity before and after pasteurization and among the different pasteurization methods. MP1 or MP2 showed better retention or less destruction than MP0 with respect to vitamin A, vitamin $B_1$, ascorbic acid and lysine content. The higher retention of nutrients of the MP1 or MP2 supports the possibility of using microwave energy for the pasteurization of milk and other fluid food products.

Synthesis of Melamine Phosphate-Polyurethane Composite Foam Blown by Water and Characterization of Its Thermal Properties (H2O로 발포된 멜라민포스페이트-폴리우레탄폼 복합체 합성과 열적 특성 분석)

  • Polyurethane/melamine phosphate composite foam (MP-PUF) was prepared from poly(adipate)diol/melamine phosphate composite (f=2), polyether-polyol (f=4.6), and PMDI (f=2.5). The thermal properties of MP-PUF such as morphology, closed-cell content, thermal conductivity, and thermal stabilities were characterized. Water was used as a blowing agent, and the composition of melamine phosphate (MP) was maintained at $1.43{\pm}0.3wt%$ of MP-PUF. As the content of water increased, the thermal conductivity of pure polyurethane foam (PUF) decreased, whereas the thermal conductivity of MP-PUF increased. The thermal stabilities of the PUF and the MP-PUF were maximized at 5 php $H_2O$, and then decreased at the higher $H_2O$ contents. The thermal stabilities of MP-PUF were greatly enhanced due to the synergetic effect of MP and urea, which was generated during the blowing process. The temperature of 50% residual mass of MP-PUF increased to $370{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ and the temperature of 30% residual mass exceeded over $700^{\circ}C$. Compared to the PUF, the temperature of 50% residual mass and 30% residual mass were higher than 25 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Clinical Significance of Subdividing Gastric Cancer according to the Degree of Invasion of the Muscularis Propria (근층 위암 세분류의 임상적 의미)

  • Purpose: Some gastric cancer patients in whom the cancer has infiltrated up to the muscularis propria (mp) have a good postoperative course similar to that of early gastric cancer (EGC) patients (this does not match the general classification of gastric cancer). Therefore, we performed a retrospective analysis of 125 patients with mp gastric cancer based on the degree of mp invasion. Materials and Methods: The clinicopathologic features of 125 cases of mp gastric cancer were subdivided according to depth of invasion, and were retrospectively reviewed and compared with the surgical features of 222 patients with gastric cancer invading the submucosa (sm). For each tumor, using the section that showed the greatest extent of invasion, we evaluated the degree of tumor invasion into the mp layer at a magnification of $\times$100. The patients were classified into 2 groups: mp1, the tumor was limited to the first of the 3 mp layers, and mp2, the tumor had expanded beyond the first layer. Results: Patients with mp1 (n=50) had a significantly lower incidence of lymph node metastasis, and a smaller tumor size than patients with mp2 (n=75) (P=0.01 and P=0.029, respectively). The 5-year survival rate of mp1 patients was significantly better than that of mp2 patients ($95.3\%\;vs.\;77.6\%$, P=0.0282), but was similar to that ($91.2\%$) of the 222 sm patients. The 5-year survival rate of mp patients without lymph node metastasis (n=55) was significantly better than that of those with lymph node metastasis (n=70)($93.3\%\;vs.\;78.2\%$, P=0.0192). Patients with mp1 had a significantly higher incidence of lymph node metastasis ($42.5\%\;vs\;23\%$, P=0.006) than patients with sm. Conclusion: There were clear differences in clinical features between the mp1 and the mp2 patients. Subdivision of mp gastric cancer according to the depth of invasion may enable a more precise prognosis and a more pertinent treatment plan for mp patients. In particular, as the clinicopathological findings and surgical outcomes for mp1 patients were akin to those of the sm patients, mp1 patients may require treatment analogous to that administered to patients with sm gastric cancer.   • Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of feeding Monascus Purpures(MP) on the growth performance of broiler chicks and egg qualify in laying hens. In Expt 1, MP were supplemented with 0. 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0% in basal diets. Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion were examined for five weeks and blood cholesterol, protein were measured at the end of experiment. In Expt 2, diets supplemented with 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0% MP were fed for two weeks. Egg qualify and yolk cholesterol were weekly measured. In Expt 1, Basal diets containing CP 21.5, 19%, ME 3,100, 3,200 kcal/kg were fed ad libitum for starting and finsihing period, repectively. In Expt 2, hens diet contained CP 16%, ME 2,800 kca1/kg and fed for two weeks. In Expt 1, weight gain of birds fed 2.0% MP was maximized at five weeks of age. Feed efficiency was not statistically different, but tended to improve in 1.0, 2.0% MP supplemental groups compared with control. Total serum cholesterol tended to be lower in 2.0% MP supplemental group but was not statistically different. In Expt 2, albumen height and Haugh unit of birds fed 1.0 and 2.0% MP were higher than other treatments, but was not statistically different. Yolk cholesterol of hens fed MP diets showed no significance.

Usability Evaluation and Development of Design Prototyping for MP3 Smart Clothing Product (MP3 스마트웨어 제품 상용화를 위한 디자인 프로토타입 개발 및 사용성 평가 연구)

  • This study focused on developing MP3 smart clothing products and usability evaluation. MP3 smart clothing which was developed in this study contains e-textile keypad and a kit. The kit consists of MP3 Player, remote controller module and ear phone, and are easy to assemble and dismantle. And usability evaluation about MP3 smart Clothing which was developed in this study contains e-textile keypad and a kit. For making the MP3 Smart clothing, e-textile signal line and keypad was developed and a metal connection ring also was manufactured to adhere closely e-textile signal line to keypad. The last products are two kinds of MP3 smart clothing, jacket style of MP3-YSJ(Yonsei Smart Jacket) and safari style of MP3-YSS(Yonsei Smart Safari). Then usability evaluation conducted two times about MP3 smart clothing developed. Usability evaluation is classified by a module evaluation and an item evaluation. The module evaluation measured external appearance, material, a music controller, an ear phone(or a mini speaker) and connector. The item evaluation measured social acceptance, feeling of wearing, utility, easiness of maintenance and safety. The module evaluation described totally positive results in the first usability evaluation about MP3-YSJ 1.0 and MP3-YSS 1.0. The item evaluation shows a lower score in the social acceptance, especially the easiness of connector maintenance and the social acceptance of music-controller in MP3-YSJ 1.0 and MP3-YSS 1.0. The second usability evaluation conducted with improved products by the first usability test results. Results from second item evaluation indicated needs to improve the easiness of connector & music-controller maintenance and the social acceptance of music-controller in MP3-YSJ 2.0. In MP3-YSS 2.0, the easiness of material management and the social acceptance of music controller & connector needed to improvement. In particular, users felt inconvenience in the social acceptance because of e-textile keypad arrangement. To outweigh this disadvantage, further study is needed about keypad interface of the music controller.

  • An experimental verification of multipactor(MP) discharge for S-band diplexer as a sample DUT for space application by an in-house MP test facility is proposed. The designed diplexer having two BPFs for Rx and Tx is applied to a design of five pole inter-digital cavity type band pass filter with chebyshev response, it has 2.7 % bandwidth centered at 2.232 and 2.055 GHz for Rx, Tx, respectively. To avoid the MP discharge, the accurate design and analysis methods based on 3D EM field analysis are considered. The proposed in-house MP test facility consists of a phase detecting system using a doubly balanced mixer as a simple, low cost and real time MP test method compared with results of previously well-known MP detection systems as cross reference methods. The calculated MP threshold RF input power is 43.13 dBm. The measured one is 43 dBm and 44 dBm for CW, pulsed mode test, respectively.

Effect of Phyto-Extract Fermented Mixture (MP119) on the Sexual Functions and on the Toxicities of Cadmium (식물추출복합발효물(MP119)이 성기능에 미치는 영향 및 카드뮴 독성에 대한 효과)

  • This study was aimed to investigate the effect of phyto-extract fermented mixture (MP119) on the male sexual functions. The MP119 was evaluated for anti-impotency and anti-hypertensive effects via ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) or PDE (phosphodiesterase) inhibition assay. $IC_{50}$ values of MP119 against ACE and PDE were 241.3${\pm}$35.5 ppm and 372.2${\pm}$33.8 ppm, respectively. To investigate the effect of testosterone expression by MP119, we performed cell media test using mouse Leydig-derived TM3 cells. Production of testosterone in TM3 cell was increased by MP119. Also, NO (nitric oxide) production of HUVEC (human umbilical vein endothelial cell) was increased when MP119 was added to the cultures. Forty male ICR mice were divided into 4 groups. MP119 was orally intubated for 7 days to group 1 and 3, and same volume of vehicle to group 2 and 4 as controls. After that, group 3 and 4 were intraperitoneally injected cadmium chloride at a single dose of 2 mg/kg. On the 8th experimental day, weights of testis, epididymis and seminal vesicle, number of sperm, concentrations of serum testosterone and cGMP were determined. The number of sperm, the concentrations of testosterone and cGMP were significantly increased in two experimental groups (group 1, 3). These results suggest that MP119 enhanced the sexual function of male mice, and could protect the sexual organs from the cadmium chloride as one of the endocrine disrupters.
