  • Cavitating flow is usually formed on the surface of a high speed underwater object. When a object moves near a free surface at very high speed, the cavity signature becomes one of the major factors to be overcome by sensors of military satellite. The present work was to study the free surface effect on the ventilated cavitation. The governing equations were Navier-Stokes equations based on a homogeneous mixture model. The multiphase flow solver used an implicit preconditioning method in the curvilinear coordinate system. The cavitation model used here was the one first presented by Merkle et al.(2006) and redeveloped by Park & Ha(2009). Computations considered the free surface effects were carried out with a NACA0012 hydrofoil and the corresponding results were compared with the experimental data to have a good agreement. Calculations were then performed considering the ventilated cavitation, including the effect of non-condensable gas under the free surface effects.

  • Offshore floating structures have so-called moonpool in the centre area for the purpose of drilling, installation of subsea structures, recovery of Remotely-Operated Vehicle (ROV) and divers. However, this vertical opening has an effect on the operating performance of floating offshore structure in the vicinity of moonpool resonance frequency; piston mode and sloshing mode. Experimental study based on model test was carried out. Moonpool resonance of floating offshore structure on fixed condition and motion free condition were investigated. And, the effect of cofferdam which is representative inner structure inside moonpool was examined. Model test results showed that Molin's theoretical formula can predict moonpool resonance on fixed condition quite accurately. However, motion free condition has higher resonance frequency when it is compared with that of motion fixed. The installation of cofferdam moves resonance frequency to higher region and also generates secondary resonance at lower frequency. Furthermore, it was found that cofferdam was the cause of generating waves in the longitudinal direction when the vessel was in beam sea.

  • This paper proposes the system model that is more efficient and active than formal home automation system and it can conquer the limits of formal one using intelligent mobile robot. This system uses specialized intelligent mobile robot for home environment and the robot moves around home instead of human. We call the system model to HAuPIRS (Home Automation system using PDA based Intelligent Robot System). HAuPIRS control architecture is composed three parts and each part is User Level, Cognitive Level, Executive Level. It is easy to use system and possible to extend the home apparatus from new technology. We made the PBMoRo System (PDA Based Mobile Robot System) based on HAuPIRS architecture and verified the efficiency of the system model.

  • This paper proposes a hierarchical dual filtering (HDF) algorithm to estimate the spatial region between a Cloud of Things (CoT) gateway and an Internet of Things (IoT) device. The accuracy of the spatial region estimation is important for autonomous CoT clustering. We conduct spatial region estimation using a hidden Markov model (HMM) with a raw Bluetooth received signal strength indicator (RSSI). However, the accuracy of the region estimation using the validation data is only 53.8%. To increase the accuracy of the spatial region estimation, the HDF algorithm removes the high-frequency signals hierarchically, and alters the parameters according to whether the IoT device moves. The accuracy of spatial region estimation using a raw RSSI, Kalman filter, and HDF are compared to evaluate the effectiveness of the HDF algorithm. The success rate and root mean square error (RMSE) of all regions are 0.538, 0.622, and 0.75, and 0.997, 0.812, and 0.5 when raw RSSI, a Kalman filter, and HDF are used, respectively. The HDF algorithm attains the best results in terms of the success rate and RMSE of spatial region estimation using HMM.

  • The needs for digital models of real environment such as 3D terrain or cyber city model are increasing. Most of applications related with modeling and simulation require virtual environment constructed from geospatial information of real world in order to guarantee reliability and accuracy of the simulation. The most fundamental data for building virtual environment, terrain elevation and orthogonal imagery is acquired from optical sensor of satellite or airplane. Providing interoperable and reusable digital model is important to promote practical application of high-resolution satellite imagery. This paper presents the new research regarding representation of geospatial information, especially for 3D shape and appearance of virtual terrain. and describe framework for constructing real-time 3D model of large terrain based on high-resolution satellite imagery. It provides infrastructure of 3D simulation with geographical context. Web architecture, XML language and open protocols to build a standard based 3D terrain are presented. Details of standard-based approach for providing infrastructure of real-time 3D simulation using high-resolution satellite imagery are also presented. This work would facilitate interchange and interoperability across diverse systems and be usable by governments, industry scientists and general public.

  • Although retailers deals with a large number of single-term inventory items, but few cases have been considered in the areas of practical decision making. However, recent moves to strengthen fair trade have created a real need for single-period inventory decision-making problems. This study addresses the problem of ordering quantity decisions that are expected to maximize profits using classical newsvendor models. The research target is data on seasonal and perishable products from retail. We also use data from retailers to actually apply the newsvendor model and calculate the results to compare performance. It also suggests solutions for estimating demand for products sold in order to apply newsvendor models that utilize actual demand ratio versus forecast demand. This study would like to examine the effectiveness of this research through data analysis and make some suggestions for applying it to reality.

  • MANETs(Mobile Ad-hoc Networks) are composed of mobile nodes that are not subordinate to fixed networks and have the feature that can form their own networks. they are used in various fields for specific goals. The mobility model in MANET can be applied in various ways depending on the purpose of usage. The random mobility model has the advantage of being simple and easy to implement, so it is being used the most. In a MANET, it is assumed that each node moves independently. The random movement model is a good model for expressing this independence of each node. However, it is insufficient to express the characteristics of all nodes with only random properties of individual nodes. This paper limits the stochastic mobility model applicable in MANET. we compare the proposed stochastic mobility model and the random mobility model. We confirm that the proposed mobility model is applied to the routing protocol to show improved characteristics in terms of energy consumption efficiency.

  • This paper presents an efficient multicast method based on a locality in mobile IPv6 networks. We exploit the repetitive movement pattern of mobile node to reduce the total number of experience of graft and join procedure. We defined the locality scope by a movement pattern. While the network is included in the locality scope, the network should maintain a multicast tree even when the mobile node moves to the other network. In this way, the mobile host can receive a multicast service without a delay when it moves to the network in the locality scope later. We compare our scheme with existing schemes under the total signaling cost and the service delay time by using a discrete analytical model for cost analysis. Analytical results demonstrated that the total signaling cost and service delay time was significantly reduced through our proposed scheme.

  • Changwon City first constructed riverbank filtration plants in Book-Myeon and Daesan-Myeon in Korea in the year 2001. This study evaluated hydrogeological characteristics and groundwater flow simulation between the Nakdong River and the fluvial aquifers adjacent to the river in Book-Myeon, Changwon City. The groundwater simulation calculated the influx rate from the Nakdong River and the fluvial aquifers to pumping wells through the riverbank filtration system. The groundwater flow model utilized drilling, grain size analysis, pumping test, groundwater level measurements, river water discharge and rainfall data. Hydraulic heads calculated by the steady-state model closely matched measured heads in pumping and observation wells. According to the transient flow model, using a total pumping amount of 14,000 $m^3$/day, the flux into the pumping wells from the Nakdong River accounts for 8,390 $m^3$/day (60%), 590 $m^3$/day (4%) is from the aquifer in the rectilinea. direction to the Nakdong River, and 5,020 $m^3$/day (36%) is from the aquifer in the parallel direction to the Nakdong River. The particle tracking analysis shows that a particle from the Nakdong River moves toward the pumping wells at a rate of about 1.85 m/day and a particle from the aquifer moves toward the pumping wells at a rate of about 0.75 m/day. This study contributes to surface water/groundwater management modeling, and helps in understanding, how seasonal change affects pumping rates, water quality, and natural recharge.

  • Drought events usually evolve slowly in time and their impacts generally span a long period of time. This indicates that the sequence of drought is not completely random. The Hidden Markov Model (HMM) is a probabilistic model used to represent dependences between invisible hidden states which finally result in observations. Drought characteristics are dependent on the underlying generating mechanism, which can be well modelled by the HMM. This study employed a HMM with Gaussian emissions to fit the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) series and make multi-step prediction to check the drought characteristics in the future. To estimate the parameters of the HMM, we employed a Bayesian model computed via Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). Since the true number of hidden states is unknown, we fit the model with varying number of hidden states and used reversible jump to allow for transdimensional moves between models with different numbers of states. We applied the HMM to several stations SPI data in South Korea. The monthly SPI data from January 1973 to December 2012 was divided into two parts, the first 30-year SPI data (January 1973 to December 2002) was used for model calibration and the last 10-year SPI data (January 2003 to December 2012) for model validation. All the SPI data was preprocessed through the wavelet denoising and applied as the visible output in the HMM. Different lead time (T= 1, 3, 6, 12 months) forecasting performances were compared with conventional forecasting techniques (e.g., ANN and ARMA). Based on statistical evaluation performance, the HMM exhibited significant preferable results compared to conventional models with much larger forecasting skill score (about 0.3-0.6) and lower Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values (about 0.5-0.9).
