  • Styrofoam is one of the most commonly used materials in everyday life, such as various packaging containers, toys, and buoys, and is likely to be found in crime scenes. However, due to the structural characteristics of Styrofoam, fingerprints cannot be deposited well. According to previous researches, powdering or cyanoacrylate fuming method was applied for developing fingerprints on Styrofoam. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of MMD I through comparative experiments of powdering. As a result of applying powder method and MMD I, MMD I was more effective than powder method on styrofoam.

  • Objective : Moyamoya disease (MMD) is an uncommon cerebrovascular disorder, characterized by progressive occlusion at the terminal portion of the internal carotid artery. Incidence of the disease is high in East Asia and familial MMD accounts for about 15% of the disease. Although the pathogenesis is unknown, association of HLA class I or II alleles with MMD has been reported with conflicting results. We investigated whether there is a difference in HLA class II association between familial and non-familial forms of the disease. Methods : A total of 70 Korean children with MMD, including 16 familial cases (10 probands), and 207 healthy controls were studied. Among familial cases, only 10 probands were used for the HLA frequency analysis. High resolution HLA-DRB1 and DQB1 genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-sequence specific oligonucleotide hybridization and PCR-single strand conformation polymorphism methods. Results : The phenotype frequencies of HLA-DRB1*1302 (70.0%) and DQB1*0609 (40.0%) were significantly increased in familial MMD compared to both controls [vs. 15.5%, corrected p ($p_c$) = 0.008, odds ratio (OR) = 12.76; vs. 4.3%, $p_c\;=\;0.02$, OR = 14.67] and non-familial MMD patients (vs. 14.8%, $p_c\;=\;0.02$, OR = 13.42; vs. 1.9%, $p_c\;=\;0.02$, OR = 35.33). The frequencies of DRB1 and DQB1 alleles in non-familial MMD patients were not significantly different from those in controls. Conclusion : Our findings suggest that the genetic polymorphism of HLA class II genes or other closely linked disease relevant gene(s) could be a genetic predisposing factor for familial MMD.

  • A micro porous PTFE membrane desolvator (MMD) was built and evaluated for the on-line removal of organic solvents to facilitate the determination of trace metal contaminants in the solvents by ICP-AES. Three organic solvents, isopropyl alcohol (IPA), methanol, and dimethy sulfoxide (DMSO) were studied. The MMD reduced organic solvent concentration in the sample aerosol stream by 82% to 89%, as indicated by monitoring C(I) emission. Net signal intensity of Fe, Al, and Cu was increasing with higher organic solvent concentration, with the rate of increase being solvent dependent. The signal intensities for Mg and Pb followed the trend with the C(I) signal. Changing the sweep gas flow rate affected the optimum signal intensity. Wine samples were analyzed by the method of standard addition. The concentrations of B, Al, and Mg were determined with a relative precision of less than 2.3%.

  • Gloves are very important evidence at a crime scene; specifically, rubber gloves can be found easily at homes. Therefore, crime scene investigators attempt to develop fingerprints inside the rubber gloves that are discovered, for identifying unknown suspects. This study compared the effectiveness of three different methods that are used for developing latent prints on gloves with aging time. These were the powder, cyanoacrylate fuming, and multi-metal deposition I methods. The powder method achieved good results for 1-3 days of aged prints, and the cyanoacrylate fuming method worked well on 2-week-old prints. In comparison, multi-metal deposition I method developed good quality fingerprints for 6 weeks of aging time.

  • This study attempts to present the linear regression analysis that involves more than one regressor variable, because regression analysis is the most widely used statistical technique for describing, predicting and estimating the relationships between given data. The model of multiple linear regression may be solved directly by the two linear programming methods, i.e., to minimize the sum of the absolute deviation (MSD) and to minimize the maximum deviation(MMD). In addition, some results was compared to each techniques for accuracy and tested to the validity of statistical meaning.

  • This study surveys the fabric surface properties such as mean value of the friction coefficient(MIU), mean deviation of the friction coefficient(MMD) and mean deviation of surface roughness(SMD) due to warp and weft tension differences using KES-FB system. For this purpose, fabric is designed as 5 harness Satin weave using 75d/36f warp and 100d/192f weft polyester filaments, and is woven by OmegaR rapier loom by Textec Co.Ltd and Picanol-GTXR rapier loom by Picanol Co.Ltd respectively. These grey fabrics are processed on the same dyeing and finishing processes. The fabric surface properties according to the weaving looms are analysed with warp and weft weaving tensions. And also surveyed the difference of fabric surface properties according to the fabric positions such as center and each edge of fabrics for the sensitive garment.

  • Digital textile printing(DTP) is becoming more important because the production trend of textile printing goods is adapting to small-lot multiple items. Recently enhanced use of DTP is closely connected with production of high value-added products in fashion industry, which is also appropriate for quick response system(QRS). Quality of DTP depends on pre-treatment, after-treatment, ink, media, printer, etc. One of these parameters, Selection of good media is very important to obtain high quality of DTP products. Especially, the effects of media on printing quality of DTP according to yarn twist and structure of knitting fabric were examined in this study. Two types of yarn twist of 830 t.p.m and 1630 t.p.m for cotton knit were used and five types of media structures were knitted with single circular knitting machine. First, MIU, MMD, SMD's values are closely related with surface roughness of sample as well as printing quality. The hard twist samples were higher values than normal twist samples in the same media structure. In case of SMD, the values increased from plain to corduroy types. Second, aspect of line sharpness, line area, and line width values of hard twist samples decreased from plain to corduroy than those of normal twist samples. Third, line deviation values of hard twist samples, blurriness of line, also decreased than those of normal twist samples.
