In this paper, we propose a variant of the QRM-MLD signal detection method that is used for spatially multiplexed multiple antenna system. The original QRM-MLD signal detection method combines the QR decomposition with the M-algorithm, thereby significantly reduces the prohibitive hardware complexity of the ML signal detection method, still achieving a near ML performance. When the number of transmitter antennas and/or constellation size are increased to achieve higher bit rate, however, its increased complexity makes the hardware implementation challenging. In an effort to overcome this drawback of the original QRM-MLD, a number of variants were proposed. A most strong variant among them, in our opinion, is the ranking method, in which the constellation points are ranked and computation is performed for only highly ranked constellation points, thereby reducing the required complexity. However, the variant using the ranking method experiences a significant performance degradation, when compared with the original QRM-MLD. In this paper, we point out the reasons of the performance degradation, and we propose a novel variant that overcomes the drawbacks. We perform a set of computer simulations to show that the proposed method achieves a near performance of the original QRM-MLD, while its computational complexity is near to that of the QRM-MLD with ranking method.
The maximum likelihood detection with QR decomposition and M-algorithm (QRM-MLD) has been presented as a suboptimum multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection scheme which can provide almost the same performance as the optimum maximum likelihood (ML) MIMO detection scheme but with the reduced complexity. However, due to the lack of parallelism and the regularity in the decoding structure, the conventional QRM-MLD which uses the tree-structure still has very high complexity for the very large scale integration (VLSI) implementation. In this paper, we modify the tree-structure of conventional QRM-MLD into trellis-structure in order to obtain high operational parallelism and regularity and then apply the Viterbi algorithm to the QRM-MLD to ease the burden of the VLSI implementation. We show from our selected numerical examples that, by using the QRM-MLD with our proposed trellis-structure, we can reduce the complexity significantly compared to the tree-structure based QRM-MLD while the performance degradation of our proposed scheme is negligible.
This study attempted to investigate the research trend of MLD studies which were issued from 2001 to March 2022 by research period/area/method/purpose through the analysis of academic theses and journals and use the results for the growth and of MLD. The study results found the followings: First, in terms of the results by research period, a total of 84 academic papers and journals were published: Phase 1 (15), Phase 2 (47), Phase 3 (22). Second, when analyzed by research area, 'cosmetology' was the highest with 19 papers in terms of the number of studies. In fact, the field of study accounted for the largest portion in all three phases. Third, when analyzed by research method, quantitative research showed the largest percentage in all three phases. Fourth, when analyzed by research purpose, a practical approach was dominant with 81 papers out of the total number of 84 (3 papers in theoretical approach). Concerning a domestic MLD-related research trend, it is an essential step for MLD study establishment and qualitative improvements. Such research analysis of MLD studies is meaningful in that it has not been attempted before. In addition, it is anticipated that the study results would be helpful in searching a direction for the academic growth and development of MLD.
An effective signal detection algorithm with low complexity is presented for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. The proposed technique, QR-MLD, combines the conventional maximum likelihood detection (MLD) algorithm and the QR algorithm, resulting in much lower complexity compared to MLD. The proposed technique is compared with a similar algorithm, showing that the complexity of the proposed technique with T=1 is a 95% improvement over that of MLD, at the expense of about a 2-dB signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) degradation for a bit error rate (BER) of $10^{-3}$. Additionally, with T=2, the proposed technique reduces the complexity by 73% for multiplications and 80% for additions and enhances the SNR performance about 1 dB for a BER of $10^{-3}$.

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) and molecular layer deposition (MLD) are based on sequential, self-limiting surface reactions that produce atomic layer controlled and conformal thin film growth. ALD can deposit inorganic films and MLD can deposit films containing organics. ALD and MLD can be used together to fabricate a wide range of hybrid organic-inorganic alloy films. The relative fraction of inorganic and organic constituents can be defined by controlling the ratio of the ALD and MLD reaction cycles used to grow the film. These hybrid films can be tuned to obtain desirable mechanical, electrical and optical properties. This talk will focus on the growth and properties of metal alkoxide films grown using metal precursors and various organic alcohols that are known as "metalcones". The talk will highlight the tunable mechanical properties of alucone alloys grown using Al2O3 ALD and alucone MLD and the tunable electrical conductivity of zincone alloys grown using ZnO ALD and zincone MLD with DEZ and hydroquinone as the reactants.
It is necessary to produce properly educated Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) specialists conducted by certified instructors. This study was conducted to introduce a comprehensive understanding, application, historical background, and effect of the MLD and to present a basis for using the frequency MLD as a basic resource for training professional. MLD, a field of manual therapy, is used to treat a variety of diseases such as joint disease, circulatory system disease, lymphedema, and pain et al. However, since there is no proper education for MLD in Korea, there is a need to provide education that meets internationally accepted standards. The Physical Therapists Association and related academic societies will need to prepare a system to train specialists on MLD and to recognize medical insurance through it.
Ryanodine receptor (RyR) is one of the two major $Ca^{2+}$ channels in membranes of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ stores and is found in sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), endoplasmic reticulum (ER). RyR1 is also the major calmodulin-binding protein of sarcoplasmic reticulum membranes. Residues 4064-4210 in the RyR1 polypeptide chain has similar primary sequence with calmodulin (CaM) and was designated as CaM-like domain (CaMLD). When expressed as a recombinant peptide, CaMLD showed several CaM-like properties in previous studies. Still, previous studies of CaMLD were focused on protein-protein interactions rather than its own properties. Here, we studied the expression of CaMLD and its sub-domains corresponding to each lobe of CaM in Escherichia coli. CaMLD could be obtained only as inclusion body, and it was refolded using urea solubilization followed by dialysis. Using spectroscopic approaches, such as NMR, circular dichroism, and gel filtration experiment, we found that the refolded CaMLD exists as nonspecific aggregate, even though it has alpha helical secondary structure. In comparison, the first half of CaMLD (R4061-4141) could be obtained as natively soluble protein with thioredoxin fusion. After the removal of the fusion tag, it exhibited folded and helical properties as shown by NMR and circular dichroism experiments. Its oligomeric status was different from CaMLD, existing as dimeric form in solution. However, the second half of the protein could not be obtained as soluble protein regardless of fusion tag. Based on these results, we believe that CaMLD, although similar to CaM in sequence, has quite different physicochemical properties and that the second half of the protein renders it the aggregative properties.

In the paper, we address QRM-MLD (Maximum Likelihood Detection with QR Decomposition and M-algorithm) signal detection method for spatially multiplexed MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems. Recently, the QRM-MLD signal detection method which can achieve 1Gbps transmission speed for next generation mobile communication was implemented in a MIMO testbed for the mobile moving at a pedestrian speed. In the paper, we propose a novel signal detection method 'reduced complexity QRM-MLD' that achieves identical error performance as the QRM-MLD while reducing the computational complexity significantly. We rigorously compare the two detection methods in terms of computational complexity to show the complexity reduction of the proposed method. We also perform a set of computer simulations to demonstrate that two detection methods achieve identical error performance.

Background and Objectives: In masking level difference (MLD), the masked detection threshold for a signal is determined as a function of the relative interaural differences between the signal and the masker. Study 1 analyzed the results of school-aged children with good school performance in the MLD test, and study 2 compared their results with those of a group of children with poor academic performance. Subjects and Methods: Study 1 was conducted with 47 school-aged children with good academic performance (GI) and study 2 was carried out with 32 school-aged children with poor academic performance (GII). The inclusion criteria adopted for both studies were hearing thresholds within normal limits in basic audiological evaluation. Study 1 also considered normal performance in the central auditory processing test battery and absence of auditory complaints and/or of attention, language or speech issues. The MLD test was administered with a pure pulsatile tone of 500 Hz, in a binaural mode and intensity of 50 dBSL, using a CD player and audiometer. Results: In study 1, no significant correlation was observed, considering the influence of the variables age and sex in relation to the results obtained in homophase (SoNo), antiphase (SπNo) and MLD threshold conditions. The final mean MLD threshold was 13.66 dB. In study 2, the variables did not influence the test performance either. There was a significant difference between test results in SπNo conditions of the two groups, while no differences were found both in SoNo conditions and the final result of MLD. Conclusions: In study 1, the cut-off criterion of school-aged children in the MLD test was 9.3 dB. The variables (sex and age) did not interfere with the MLD results. In study 2, school performance did not differ in the MLD results. GII group showed inferior results than GI group, only in SπNo condition.
