In this paper, we present a pH measurement method that uses a microcantilever-array-based biosensor system. It is composed of microcantilever array, liquid cell, micro syringe pump, laser diode array, position sensitive detector, data acquisition device, and data processing software. Four microcantilevers are functionalized with pH-sensitive MHA(mercaptohexadecanoic acid) as a probe, while three microcantilevers are functionalized with HDT(hexadecane thiol) as reference. We prepare PBS(phosphate buffered saline) solutions of different pH and inject them into the liquid cell with a predefined volumetric speed at regular time intervals. The functionalized mircocantilevers in the liquid cell deflect as a self-assembled monolayer on the microcantilever binds with probe molecules in the solution. The difference in deflection between the MHA-covered probe microcantilever and the HDT-covered reference microcantilever was used to compensate for thermal drift. The deflection difference clearly increases with increasing pH in the solution. It was shown that when the pH values of the PBS solutions are high, there were large variations in the deflection of microcantilevers, whereas there were small variations for low pH value. The experimental results show that the microcantilever array functionalized with MHA and HDT can detect pH value with good repeatability.
Two feeding trials were conducted to assess the relative bioavailability (RBV) of methionine hydroxy analogue calcium salt (MHA-Ca) in comparison to DL-methionine (DL-Met). Male Ross 308 (1-38 days) and Cobb 500 chickens (1-42 days) were used in studies 1 and 2, respectively. Experimental diets based on wheat and soybean meal or sorghum and soybean meal were fed during three phases. In both experiments graded levels of DL-Met and MHA-Ca were supplemented to Met+Cys deficient basal diets. Additionally, in experiment 1, increasing levels of a DL-Met preparation diluted with corn starch to 65% purity (DL-Met65) were supplemented. Birds were kept in floor pens and feed and water were available ad libitum. Body weights and feed consumption were recorded at the beginning and end of the experimental periods and weight gain and feed efficacy were computed subsequently. At the end of the experiments, a number of birds were slaughtered for carcass evaluation (dressing percentage, breast meat yield). Dose response data were analysed by both ANOVA and nonlinear common plateau asymptotic regression. In both experiments birds responded significantly to increasing levels of either methionine source. However, RBV of MHA-Ca compared to DL-Met was markedly (in many cases significantly) below 84%, the value which would have been expected from MHA-Ca's chemical characteristics. Excluding some extremely low RBV figures of trial 2, RBV of MHA-Ca averaged to about 63% in relation to DL-Met. In addition, supplementation of DL-Met65 allowed confirmation of nonlinear common plateau asymptotic regression to be suitable to determine RBV.

A study consisting of 3 trials was designed to assess the relative biological efficacy of DL-methionine (DL-Met) in comparison to liquid methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA-FA) in growing pigs. In trial I a basal diet was supplemented with three graded levels of DL-methionine (0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 g/kg) or liquid MHA-FA (0.0285, 0.0570 and 0.0855 g/kg) on equimolar basis. The basal diet contained 18.3% CP, 0.22% Met and 0.51% Met+Cys, which is below the methionine requirement for weaned pigs between 10 and 20 kg BW according to NRC (1998) but adequate in all other essential nutrients and energy. Using an exponential model, the efficacy of the two methionine sources was estimated from nitrogen retention data obtained in 42 piglets with an initial BW between 11.0 kg (Exp. 1) and 11.7 kg (Exp. 2). In trials II and III, with a total of 192 and 96 pigs, and with an initial BW of 10.6 and 21 kg, respectively, growth response criteria were assessed to determine if in agreement with previous studies in pigs and poultry a biological effectiveness of about 65% on average could be confirmed for liquid MHA-FA in comparison to DL-met. Based on N-retention (trial I) the biological efficacy of liquid MHA-FA on a weight-to-weight basis was calculated to be 62% relative to DL-met. Basically, these results were confirmed using growth response criteria as measures; the results of trial II and III revealed no significant differences in growth performance and feed conversion between treatments indicating that 100 parts of liquid MHA-FA can be replaced by 65 parts of DL-met.

It is necessary to develop the next generation FTS which is suitable for our environment and effectively operates many launch vehicles. Standard tone, Secure tone, MHA, EFTS and DSSS are studied for the next generation FTS. FTS requires a high quality of performance and reliability because of their specific mission. And few FTSs are needed but the price is very expensive. Therefore we must investigate a part of the FTS whether the part can be reused for a part of the next FTS. In this paper, we use CCDF of the transmitted signal from FTS as the method to study a possibility of reusing HPA used in the present system. The simulation results show that PEP of Standard tone is 0.21dB and Secure tone and MHA has the same PEP. CPFSK's PEP is 1.81dB and PEP of DSSS using BPSK modulation is 2.6dB.

This experiment was carried out to evaluate supplemental effects of various preservatives to preserve the Brewers grain and Soymilk from decay and degeneration. The NaCl, organic acid(Ca-propionate), microbial fermenter(H/MF inoculant), and methionine hydroxy analogue(MHA) were used as additives in order to compare preservability of brewers grain and soymilk by-product during 20 days at July to August. Most treatments were appeared rapid decay and degeneration as soften and covered with molds on surface from the early days of experiment. However, MHA treatments showed any change until 20 days of storage. In terms of pH and $NH_3-N$ contents, only MHA treatment showed a stable and low value. The other treatments including Control showed high values as time flowed or unstable states. In conclusion, when high moisture agricultural by-product was treated by over 5% of MHA, there was no significant physicochemical changes in long term preservation over 20 days at summer season.

Transmission of substituent effects through 5-membered heteroaromatic rings is investigated theoretically at the RHF/6-31+G and B3LYP/6-31+G levels using the equilibria for the $OH^- addition to five-membered heteroaromatic aldehydes (5MHA). The transmission efficiency (S) in 5MHA(A) increases in the order NH>O>S>PH but the order exactly reverses in 5MHA($T^-$). This is originated by the delocalizability of the ${\pi}$ lonepair on Y, $$n_\pi$(Y)$. A better correlation is obtained with ${\sigma}_p^-$ in the Hammett plots with positive slope, $p_z$ > 0, indicating that the substituent (Z) effects are not transmitted by a direct conjugation. The magnitude of $p_z$ for Y=NH is the largest among the heteroaromatic systems, which is consistent with the largest transmission efficiency change $({\Delta}S)$. The equilibria for the addition processes are favorable in the gas phase $({\Delta}G^o<0)$, which reverses to unfavorable in aqueous solution $({\Delta}G^o>0)$ due to the relatively large salvation energy of $OH^-$ in the initial state in aqueous solution. The orders of ${\Delta}G^o$ and $p_z$ in the gas phase are almost maintained in solution.
This study was carried out to evaluate the bioavailabilities and the digestibilities of oligopeptide chelated (peptide-Ca), anchovy bone (anchovy-Ca) and methionine hydroxyl analogue (MHA-Ca) calcium compared to those of calcium carbonate in rats. In exp1, $CaCO_3$, were added to the basal diet at level of 0, 30 and 60% calcium of the AIN-93G diet. In test groups, peptide-Ca, anchovy-Ca and MHA-Ca, were added to the basal diet to provide calcium at the level of 40% of AIN-93G. In exp1, the bioavailabilities were evaluated from the regression equation of the ratios of theological/ actual calcium intakes of each dietary treatment. In exp2, urine and feces was to evaluate the true- and apparent digestibility and apparent retention. In exp1, Ca-60% group had higher bone mineral density (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC) and bone breaking strength (BBS) than those of the other standard groups. The bone weight and ash content of the peptide-Ca and anchovy-Ca groups were significantly higher than those of the MHA-Ca. Bone calcium content were not significantly different from the test group. The bioavailability of the MHA-Ca group was shown higher BMD (71%), BS (38%) and BBS (27%) compared to another control group. But the regression coefficient for BMD, BS and BBS were lower compare with that of bone ash and BMC. In exp2, the true- and apparent digestibility of test groups were shown to over 90%. Peptide-Ca was not significantly different from other test group, but digestibility and retention were higher compare to other test groups. In conclusion, peptide-Ca, anchovy-Ca and MHA-Ca improved Ca bioavailability in the rats. The compounds were higher Ca digestibility compared with those of $CaCO_3$. It is assumed that difference of digestibility for test groups may be correlated to the bioavailability of test groups in BMD, BMC, BS, BBS and bone ash respectively.
An immunosensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with enhanced performance was developed through a mixed self-assembled monolayer. A mixture of 16-mercaptohexadecanic acid (16-MHA) and 1-undecanethiol with various molar ratios was self-assembled on gold (Au) surface and the carboxylic acid groups of 16-MHA were then coordinated to Zn ions by exposing the substrate to an ethanolic solution of $Zn(NO_3)_2\cdot 6H_2O$. The antibody was immobilized on the SPR surface by exposing the functionalized substrate to the desired solution of antibody in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) molecules. The film formation in series was confirmed by SPR and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The functionalized surface was applied to develop an SPR immunosensor for detecting human serum albumin (HSA) and the estimated detection limit (DL) was 4.27 nM. The limit value concentration can be well measured between ill and healthy conditions.
A hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle heterolayer was fabricated for bioelectronic device with electrochemical signal-enhancement effect. As a device element, a hemoglobin, the metalloprotein, contained the heme group that showed the redox property was introduced for charge storage element. For electron transfer facilitation, a silver nanoparticle was introduced for electrochemical signal facilitation, the hemoglobin was immobilized onto Au substrate using chemical linker 6-mercaptohexanoic acid (6-MHA). Then, the silver nanoparticle was immobilized onto fabricated hemoglobin/6-MHA heterolayers by layer-by-layer (LbL) method. The surface morphology and surface roughness of fabricated heterolayer were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The redox property of hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle heterolayer was investigated by a cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiment for obtaining an oxidation potential and reduction potential. Moreover, for the assessing charge storage function, a chronoamperometry (CA) experiment was conducted to hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle-modified heterolayer electrode using oxidation and reduction potentials, respectively. Based on the results, the fabricated hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle heterolayer showed that an increased charge storage effect compared to hemoglobin monolayer-modified electrode.
