Thermography-based coating thickness estimation for steel structures using model-agnostic meta-learning

  • This paper proposes a thermography-based coating thickness estimation method for steel structures using model-agnostic meta-learning. In the proposed method, a halogen lamp generates heat energy on the coating surface of a steel structure, and the resulting heat responses are measured using an infrared (IR) camera. The measured heat responses are then analyzed using model-agnostic meta-learning to estimate the coating thickness, which is visualized throughout the inspection surface of the steel structure. Current coating thickness estimation methods rely on point measurement and their inspection area is limited to a single point, whereas the proposed method can inspect a larger area with higher accuracy. In contrast to previous ANN-based methods, which require a large amount of data for training and validation, the proposed method can estimate the coating thickness using only 10- pixel points for each material. In addition, the proposed model has broader applicability than previous methods, allowing it to be applied to various materials after meta-training. The performance of the proposed method was validated using laboratory-scale and field tests with different coating materials; the results demonstrated that the error of the proposed method was less than 5% when estimating coating thicknesses ranging from 40 to 500 ㎛.

Effect of endodontic sealer on postoperative pain: a network meta-analysis

  • This systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed to answer the following focused research question: "Does the type of endodontic sealer affect the postoperative pain in patients who received endodontic treatment?" Different databases and grey literature were surveyed. Only one randomized controlled trial were included. The risk of bias in the studies was evaluated by using the Cochrane Collaboration's tool. A random-effects meta-analysis was conducted to compare the risk and intensity of postoperative pain. The quality of the body of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Out of 11,601 studies, 15 remained for qualitative analyses and 12 for meta-analysis. Seven studies were classified at high risk of bias, and 8 studies raised some concerns. No significant differences between the endodontic materials were observed in the direct comparisons, both in risk and in intensity of postoperative pain (pairwise comparisons with 2 studies: I2 = 0%; p > 0.05 and 8 studies: I2 = 23%; p > 0.05, respectively). The certainty of the evidence was graded as low or moderate. There was no difference in the risk and intensity of postoperative pain after filling with different endodontic sealers. Further systematic reviews should be conducted.

AMSTAR-2를 적용한 국내 뇌졸중 환자의 재활치료 중재 메타분석 연구의 방법론적 질 평가: 상지기능과 일상생활회복을 중심으로 (Methodological Quality Evaluation of a Meta-Analysis Study of Rehabilitation Treatment Interventions for Stroke Patients in Korea Applying AMSTAR-2: Focusing on Upper Extremity Function and Recovery of Daily Life)

  • 본 연구는 뇌졸중 환자의 재활 중재에 대한 국내 메타분석 논문의 질을 평가하기 위하여 방법론적 질 평가도구인 AMSTAR-2의 적용하여 분석하였다. 분석된 연구의 질적 수준을 검증하고 근거 중심 실무의 질적 향상과 메타분석 연구를 위한 지침을 제공하고자 한다. 문헌검색은 학술연구정보서비스(Research Information Sharing Service, RISS), 한국 의학 논문 데이터베이스(Korean Medical database, KM base), 한국학술정보(Korean studies Information Service System, KISS)를 이용하였다. 검색을 위해서 주요 핵심어로 '뇌졸중' AND '메타분석'을 주제어로 하여 검색하였다. 최종 18편의 연구 중 AMSTAR-2 질 평가 결과 'Moderate'에 해당하는 연구는 3편(16.67%), 'Low'에 해당하는 연구는 8편(44.44%), 'Critically Low'에 해당하는 연구는 7편(38.89%)으로 나타났다. 향후 연구에서는 과학적이고 객관적인 데이터 선택 및 추출 과정을 수행하고, 문헌의 질적 향상을 위한 방안으로 본 연구에서 분석한 내용을 참고하여 메타분석 연구의 질적 향상을 위한 관심과 노력이 지속되기를 기대한다.

대학교 부설 과학영재교육원 평가에 대한 메타평가 (Meta-evaluation for Evaluation of Science Gifted Educational Institutions Affiliated with Universities)

  • 본 연구는 대학교 부설 과학영재교육원 평가에 대한 메타평가를 통해 평가실태를 파악하고 개선안을 제안하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 2008년 2월 전국 25개 대학교 부설 과학영재교육원 관계자 및 평가위원 9명의 33명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 그 응답결과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 현행 평가는 총괄기능을 강조하여 획일적 평가가 이루어지는 문제점이 지적되었다 먼저 평가준거 및 평가요소는 구체적이지 않으며, 평가준거는 평가대상 기관의 설립연도, 지역인프라 등을 고려치 않으며, 과학고/영재학교 진학률이나 경시대회 수상실적으로 성과를 평가하는 점이 지적되었다. 또한 평가대상 기관의 연구역량을 평가하지 않았다. 평가위원의 전문성 부족과 평가기간이 너무 짧은 점, 순위를 결정하는 판단을 위한 평가, 평가결과와는 별개로 제시된 개선방향의 불명확성 등이 문제점이었다. 현행 평가의 개선안으로 컨설팅 평가 기능을 강화하며, 과학적 평가기획과 구체적 평가준거를 제시하고, 현장방문평가를 도입하며, 평가결과 및 평가과정이 공개피고 학생과 학부모 만족도를 평가하는 방안이 제안되었다. 나아가 우수 운영사례를 발굴, 파급하고 과학영재교육원 별 자체적 특성과 성과에 따른 평가지표로 평가받도록 개선되어야 할 것이다.

Effects of Manual Therapy on Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

  • Objective: Chemotherapy is usually given to inhibit cancer progression. It is the most common side effect of chemotherapyinduced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) after chemotherapy, and its symptoms include pain such as paresthesia, dysesthesia, allodynia, hyperalgesia, and electrical stimulation. Therefore, in this review, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were combined to analyze the effect qualitatively and quantitatively in order to find out the effect of manual therapy on patients with CIPN through a meta-analysis. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis Methods: This review conducted a literature search through international databases (CINAHL, Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science) in December 2022 to synthesize the effect of manual therapy on the symptomatic improvement of CIPN. Qualitative evaluation (risk of bias) and quantitative evaluation using ReVMan provided by the Cochrane Group were expressed as a random effect model and standardized mean difference (SMD). Results: In four RCTs 165 patients with CIPN were evaluated for symptoms of neuropathy. The experimental group consisting of manual therapy and its subcategories showed significant improvement compared to the control group. The results analyzed through the random effects model were SMD=-1.11; 95% confidence interval, -1.97 to -0.24. Conclusions: We came to the conclusion that manual therapy could significantly contribute to improving the symptoms of CIPN, and since it may vary depending on the technique of manual therapy, further studies on manual therapy suitable for neuropathy are needed.

Effects of Cardiovascular Training on Interleukin-6 in Stroke Patients: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

  • Objective: A previous study reported that cardiovascular training (CT) decreased interleukin-6 (IL-6), a pro-inflammatory cytokine with bidirectional effects. However, because of conflicting results of increasing and decreasing IL-6 levels in stroke patients, it is essential to clarify the effects of CT on IL-6 levels in this population. Therefore, this review aimed to investigate the effects of CT on IL-6 levels in stroke patients through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), synthesizing and analyzing the effects qualitatively and quantitatively. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Methods: In this review, conducted in April 2023, electronic databases (Web of Science, CINAHL, Embase, MEDLINE, Google Scholar) were searched to ascertain the effects of CT on IL-6 levels in stroke patients. For qualitative evaluation, ReVMan, provided by the Cochrane Group, was used, and for quantitative evaluation, a random-effects model and SMD (Standardized Mean Difference) were used. Results: Three RCTs measured IL-6 in 117 patients with stroke. The experimental group to which CT was applied showed no significant change compared to the control group.The result of analysis using the random effect model is SMD=-0.23; 95% confidence interval, -0.66 to 0.20. Conclusions: CT does not affect IL-6 levels in stroke patients. These results suggest that CT can be applied regardless of its positive or negative effect on IL-6 levels in stroke patients.

메타분석을 이용한 임상영양서비스의 비용-효과성 평가 (Evaluation of Cost-Effectiveness of Medical Nutrition Therapy : Meta-Analysis)

  • Objectives: A meta-analysis of the literatures was conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy by dietitians. Methods : The 30 studies were identified from a computerized search of published research on MEDLINE, Science-Direct and the PQD database until May, 2002 and a review of reference lists. The main search terms were“dietitian”,“dietary intervention”,“nutrition intervention”, “cost”,“cost-effectiveness”and“cost-benefit analysis”. The subgroup analysis was performed by publication year, study design, intervention provider, type of patient (in/out-patient) and type of cost (total cost/direct cost). Two reviewers independently selected trials for inclusion, assessed the quality and extracted the data. Results : The 30 studies were identified using the electric database search and bibliographies. The 17 trials were eligible for inclusion criteria, then the systematic review and a meta-analysis were conducted on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the quality assessment tool for observational studies. The quality score was 0.515 $\pm$ 0.121 (range : 0.279-0.711, median : 0.466). The meta-analysis of 17 studies based on the random effect model showed that medical nutrition therapy was highly effective in treating the diseases (effect size 0.3092 : 95% confidence interval 0.2282-0.3303). The vote-counting method, one of meta-analysis methods, was applied to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy conducted by dietitians. Two criteria (method 1, method 2) for voting were used. The calculated p-values for method 1 (more conservative method) and method 2 (less conservative method) were 0.1250 and 0.0106, respectively. Medical nutrition therapy by dietitians was significantly cost-effective in the method 2. Conclusion. This meta-analysis showed that the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy was statistically significant in treating disease (effect size 0.3092), and that the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy was statistically significant in the method 2 (less conservative method) of vote counting. Meta-Gaussian 방법을 이용한 강우-유출 모형에서의 불확실성 산정 (Evaluation of the Uncertainties in Rainfall-Runoff Model Using Meta-Gaussian Approach)

  • 홍수나 가뭄 등 극한 사상을 예측하여 재해에 대비하거나 또는 수자원을 효율적으로 관리, 배분하기 위하여 강우-유출 모형이 이용되고 있다. 그러나 많은 수문학자들은 강우-유출 모형이 가질 수밖에 없는 불확실성에 대하여 언급하였다. 실제 유역에 내린 강우는 증발과 증산, 차단, 침투 등 여러 과정을 거쳐 유출로 이어지는데, 모형에서는 이러한 복잡한 물리적 과정을 단순화하여 표현하였으므로 불확실성이 반드시 존재할 수밖에 없는 것이다. 따라서 모형으로부터의 모의 결과를 신뢰할 수 있는지를 정량적으로 판단하는 과정이 이루어져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 현재까지 강우-유출 모형의 불확실성을 평가한 선행 연구 중 Montanari와 Brath(2004)가 제시한 Meta-Gaussian 기법을 이용하여 강우-유출 모형 모의 결과에 대한 불확실성을 검토하였다. 이 기법은 모형 오차의 확률 분포형으로부터 신뢰구간의 상한계와 하한계를 추정하는 방법으로 수문모형의 전역적 불확실성(Global Uncertainty)을 정량화할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 동일한 강우사상에 대한 물리적 기반의 분포형 모형인 $Vflo^{TM}$ 모형과 개념적 준 분포형 모형인 HEC-HMS 모형으로부터 모의된 유출량을 Meta-Gaussian 기법을 적용하여 불확실성을 분석하였다.

뇌질환 환자에서 전산화 인지치료의 임상적 유용성 : 체계적 고찰 및 메타분석 (Clinical Benefit of Computerized Cognitive Therapy in Patients with Brain Disease : A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis)

  • Purpose : This study aims to confirm the clinical usefulness of computerized cognitive therapy program for patients with brain diseases in Korea and to present basic data that can confirm the effectiveness of computerized cognitive therapy program to experts related to rehabilitation in the future. Methods : A systematic review and meta-analysis research method was used to confirm the clinical effectiveness of computerized cognitive therapy applied to patients with brain diseases in Korea. Based on the national institute of health and medical colleges association (NECA) systematic literature manual and preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines for conducting research through systematic review and meta-analysis methods. Systematic review was PICOST-SD was used to research and select papers. For meta-analysis, the data was input and analyzed separately by literature result using the revman manager 5.3 program and the results were presented visually through tables and forest, funnel plot figure. Results : As a result of comprehensive analysis of the contents of the finally selected literature, it as found that studies on stroke and dementia were mainly conducted. In addition, through the evaluation of the quality of the literature, most of the existing computerized cognitive therapy studies were identified as high-quality studies, but the results were insufficient for randomization and blinding. And through meta-analysis, the clinical effectiveness of computerized cognitive therapy on cognitive function, activities of daily living, and visual perception function of patients with brain disease was found. Conclusion : The research literature that applied computerized cognitive therapy to brain disease subjects was comprehensively analyzed and identified. It is thought that this could be used as basic data on the characteristics of cognitive therapy that should be applied to patients with brain diseases in the future and the usefulness of computerized cognitive therapy program in actual clinical practice.

Preclinical evaluation using functional SPECT imaging of 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (mIBG) for adrenal medulla in normal mice

  • meta-iodobenzylguanidine is one of the norepinephrine analogs and reuptakes together with norepinephrine with norepinephrine transporter. The radioiodinated ligand, 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine, is the most widely used for single photon emission computed tomography imaging to diagnose functional abnormalities and tumors of the sympathetic nervous system. In this study, we performed cellular uptake studies of 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine in positive- and negative-norepinephrine transporter cells in vitro to verify the uptake activity for norepinephrine transporter. After 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine was injected via a tail vein into normal mice, Single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography images were acquired at 1 h, 4 h, and 24 h post-injection, and quantified the distribution in each organ including the adrenal medulla as a norepinephrine transporter expressing organ. In vitro cell study showed that 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine specifically uptaked via norepinephrine transporter, and significant uptake of 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine in the adrenal medulla in vivo single photon emission computed tomography images. These results demonstrated that single photon emission computed tomography imaging with 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine were able to quantify the biodistribution in vivo in the adrenal medulla in normal mice.
