Radiation Recall Pneumonitis: Imaging Appearance and Differential Considerations

  • Radiation recall pneumonitis is an inflammatory reaction of previously radiated lung parenchyma triggered by systemic pharmacological agents (such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy) or vaccination. Patients present with non-specific symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, or hypoxia soon after the initiation of medication or vaccination. Careful assessment of the patient's history, including the thoracic radiation treatment plan and timing of the initiation of the triggering agent, in conjunction with CT findings, contribute to the diagnosis. Once a diagnosis is established, treatment includes cessation of the causative medication and/or initiation of steroid therapy. Differentiating this relatively rare entity from other common post-therapeutic complications in oncology patients, such as recurrent malignancy, infection, or medication-induced pneumonitis, is essential for guiding downstream clinical management.

비강압력신호를 이용한 수면호흡장애 환자의 수면/각성 분류 (Classification of Sleep/Wakefulness using Nasal Pressure for Patients with Sleep-disordered Breathing)

  • This study proposes the feasibility for automatic classification of sleep/wakefulness using nasal pressure in patients with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). First, SDB events were detected using the methods developed in our previous studies. In epochs for normal breathing, we extracted the features for classifying sleep/wakefulness based on time-domain, frequency-domain and non-linear analysis. And then, we conducted the independent two-sample t-test and calculated Mahalanobis distance (MD) between the two categories. As a results, $SD_{LEN}$ (MD = 0.84, p < 0.01), $P_{HF}$ (MD = 0.81, p < 0.01), $SD_{AMP}$ (MD = 0.76, p = 0.031) and $MEAN_{AMP}$ (MD = 0.75, p = 0.027) were selected as optimal feature. We classified sleep/wakefulness based on support vector machine (SVM). The classification results showed mean of sensitivity (Sen.), specificity (Spc.) and accuracy (Acc.) of 60.5%, 89.0% and 84.8% respectively. This method showed the possibilities to automatically classify sleep/wakefulness only using nasal pressure.

MdMADS2 - transgenic chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura) showing the reduction of the days to flowering

  • This study was conducted to develop new lines expressing the characteristic of early flowering by introducing MdMADS2 gene in chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura) ‘Zinba'. Transformation of chrysanthemum was conducted by Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404 harboring the binary vector containing MdMADS2 controlled by double CaMV 35S promoters. Ninety three shoots were regenerated from 1,463 leaf segment explants cultured on the first selection medium (MS basal salts + 1.0 mg/L BA + 0.5 mg/L IAA + 10 mg/L kanamycin + 400 mg/L cefotaxime, pH 5.8) after co-cultivation, and 20 out of the 93 shoots rooted on the second selection medium containing 20 mg/L kanamycin and 400 mg/L cefotaxime. Many escapes (98.6%) were removed on the selection stage for rooting. Nineteen lines were confirmed as transgenic plant with transgene by PCR analysis. Six transgenic plants flowered 2-11 days earlier than non-transgenic plant without big change of phenotype, and especially, 3 (Mo-7, Mo-11, Mo-17) out of 6 transgenic lines showed a significant reduction in days to flowering compared to non-transgenic plant. Introduction and expression of MdMADS2 gene in them were confirmed by Southern and real-time PCR analyses, respectively.

  • Flowers of Magnolia denudata has been reported to possess a variety of pharmacological activities. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects and mechanism of the water extract of Flowers of Magnolia denudata(MD) in lipopolysacchride (LPS)-mediated inflammatory mediators in murine peritoneal macrophages. MD itself does not have any toxic effects in murine peritoneal macrophages. MD inhibits LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$, IL-6 and IL-12 production in murine peritoneal macrophages. Furthermore, we have found that MD inhibited LPS-induced $NF-{\kappa}B$ but not c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), p38 and extracellular signal-ragulated kinase (ERK) activation. These results suggested that MD inhibit LPS-induced production of $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6 and IL-12 via suppression of the $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation.

Effects of Feed Processing and Feeding Methods on Growth and Carcass Traits for Growing-Finishing Pigs

  • The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feed processing and feeding methods on growth performance and carcass characteristics of growing-finishing pigs. A total of 72 pigs (LYD, 22.24 kg BW) were employed for a 90-d feeding trial. Treatments were 1) mash dry feeding (MD), 2) mash wet feeding (MW), 3) pellet dry feeding (PD), and 4) extruded pellet dry feeding (EPD). Corn, soybean meal and wheat bran in the basal diets were extruded before mixing and pelleting for EPD diet production. Ileal or fecal digestibility and carcass traits including lean meat percentage and weights of stomach ulcer were also examined. During the growing period, pigs fed PD showed improved (p < 0.05) average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion (F/G) over those fed MD, whereas no significant differences in average daily feed intake (ADFI) were found among dietary treatments. Finisher pigs fed MD showed lover, but not significant, ADG and F/G than those fed MW, PD or EPD. For the overall period, pigs fed PD grew faster (p < 0.05) than those fed MD or EPD. Feed intake was different between the two feeding methods (MD vs MW), and between the two processed feeds (PD vs EPD). The digestibility of crude fat was higher (p < 0.05) in pigs fed EPD than in pigs fed mash feeds. NFE digestibility of EPD treatment was also higher (p < 0.05) than that of PD. Back fat (10th rib area) was thicker (p < 0.05) tn pigs fed MD than in pigs fed EPD. other carcass traits including incidence of esophagogastric ulcers were not different among treatments. In conclusion, pelleting appeared to bo the desirable processing methods and wet feeding could also be recommended for growing-finishing pigs.

  • 수소이온 교환막(PEM; Proton Exchange Membrane)은 연료전지 막-전극 복합체(MEA; Membrane-electrode Assembly)를 구성하는 핵심 소재 중 하나로서, 촉매와 함께 연료전지 성능을 결정하는 중요한 역할을 한다. 이러한 수소이온교환막의 성능은 내부에 존재하는 수소이온 전달 통로인 수화 채널의 구조에 큰 영향을 받는 것으로 알려져 있다. 분자 동역학(MD; Molecular Dynamics) 전산모사 기술은 이러한 소재 내부의 분자 및 원자구조를 파악하기 위한 유용한 도구로서, 수소이온 교환막의 구조 및 특성에 관한 많은 관련 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 총설에서는 분자동역학 전산모사 관련 연구에 대한 동향을 정리하고, 이를 통해 어떤 구조적 특징들을 분석할 수 있는지 제시하여, 수소이온 교환막 연구자들과 분리막 연구자들에게 분자동역학 전산모사 기술의 유용성에 대하여 소개하고자 한다.

A Case Report of Madelung's Disease

  • Madelung's disease (MD) is a rare disease characterized by diffuse, nonencapsulated, multiple fat masses in different areas of the body. In this case report, we present a case of MD in Asia and its management. A 66-year-old man with a history of hypertension presented with massive growth of soft tissue around the neck, breasts, upper back, and lower abdomen. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging revealed remarkably hypertrophic fat tissue around the neck and anterior chest was wall, which consistent with the diagnosis of MD. Multiple linear incisions were made on the neck and 763, 186, 635 g of posterior, right, and left fat tissues were excised, respectively. A single wide, transverse incision was done to excise 1,072 g of fat from the upper back. Masses of both breasts were excised, preserving the inferior pedicle, weighing 1,086 (right) and 1,164 g (left). The recovery was optimal and the patient was discharged without complications. In this case, we excised the adipose masses as much as possible and improved contour and symmetry. However, the fat infiltrations in the patient were diffusely distributed, making total fat excision difficult. This rare case report may help in managing patients with MD.

다차원 파일구조를 이용한 객체지향 데이터베이스의 중포속성 색인기법 (Indexing Techniques or Nested Attributes of OODB Using a Multidimensional Index Structure)

  • 본 논문에서는 객체지향 데이터베이스의 중포속성에 대한 색인기법으로 다차원 색인구조를 이용하는 다차원 중포속성 색인기법은 MD-NAI를 제안한다. 중포석성에 대한 기존의 색인기법들은 중포된 객체에 대한 기존의 색인기법들은 B+-tree와 같은 일차원 색인구조를 이용함으로써, 클래스 계층과 중포속성이 포함된 복합 형태의 질의들에 대한 처리를 잘 지원하지 못한다. MD-NAI에서는 객체지향 데이터베이스의 클래스 계층에 대한 색인기법인 이차원 클래스 계층 색인기법(2D-CHI)을 다차원으로 확장한다. 2D-CHI는 키 속성 도메인과 클래스 식별자 도메인으로 구성된 이차원 도메인 공간상에서 객체들의 클러스터링을 다루는 색인기법이다. 본 논문의 MD-NAI에서는 색인된 중포속성을 표현하는 경로상의 각 클래스 계층마다 하나의 클래스 식별자 도메인을 할당하여 구성된 다차원 도메인 공간상에서 색인 엔트리들의 클러스터링을 다룬다. 따라서, MD-NAI에서는 기존의 색인기법에서 지원하기 어려운 질의의 대상 범위 클래스 계층상의 임의의 클래스들로 제한되거나, 질의에 포함된 복합속성들의 도메인이 클래스 계층상의 임의의 클래스들로 제한되는 경우에도 잘 지원할 수 있다.

  • 가중치법이나 목표계획법을 이용하여 다목적함수 최적화를 수행할 때 설계자는 각 함수에 적절한 가중치나 목표값을 설정해 주어야 한다. 하지만 파라미터를 잘못 설정하게 되면 파레토 최적해를 얻지못하기 때문에 이는 설계자에게 큰 부담이 된다. 최근에 데이터의 분포특성만을 이용하여 데이터의 평균과 함수 사이의 거리를 표현하는 마하라노비스 거리(MD)를 최소화하는 MTS기법이 개발되었다. 이 방법은 파라미터를 설정하지 않아도 되는 장점이 있지만 최적해가 참고데이터의 평균으로 수렴하는 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 방향성이 없는 기존의 MD에 방향성을 부여한 새로운 거리 척도인 SMD를 제안하였다. 그리고 SMD법이 계산과정에서 각 함수의 가중치를 자동으로 반영하고 평균에서 가장 멀리 위치한 한 점을 항상 파레토 최적해로 제공한다는 것을 2개의 단순예제를 통해 검증하였다.

A Case Study of Human Resource Allocation for Effective Hotel Management

  • The purpose of this study is to optimally allocate the human resources to tasks while minimizing the total daily human resource costs and smoothing the human resource usage. The human resource allocation problem (hRAP) under consideration contains two kinds of special constraints, i.e. operational precedence and skill constraints in addition to the ordinary constraints. To deal with the multiple objectives and the special constraints, first we designed this hRAP as a network problem and then proposed a Pareto multistage decisionbased genetic algorithm (P-mdGA). During the evolutionary process of P-mdGA, a Pareto evaluation procedure called generalized Pareto-based scale-independent fitness function approach is used to evaluate the solutions. Additionally, in order to improve the performance of P-mdGA, we use fuzzy logic controller for fine-tuning of genetic parameters. Finally, in order to demonstrate the applicability and to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, P-mdGA is applied to solve a case study in a hotel, where the managers usually need helpful automatic support for effectively allocating hotel staff to hotel tasks.
