The geometry of an MC (magnetic cloud) in the interplanetary space can be estimated by the magnetic flux rope model. But the single point observation in the interplanetary space near the Earth is scanty to comprehend the global configuration of MC because the MC is considered a huge loop extending from the Sun with both legs rooted on the Sun. If the MC is observed at two different locations sufficiently far away from each other, it may provide the global configuration of the MC. In this study, we model the MC which is observed two different locations using a simple straight cylinder model. The MC model fit parameters are the flux rope axis orientation (${\Theta}$, ${\phi}$), the intensity of the magnetic field at the flux rope axis ($B_0$), the radius of the MC ($R_0$), and the impact parameter (p), etc. With the MC model fit parameters we look into the difference between two observed MC geometries and also calculate the magnetic flux and helicity of the MC.
The joint model has influence on the results of discontinuum analysis. In this study the results of discontinuum analysis with Barton-Bandis joint model(BB model) and with Mohr-Coulomb joint model(MC model) are compared. The results of continuum analysis under the same condition are compared with the results of discontinuum analysis to investigate the behavior of rockmass around tunnel. The result of continuum analysis and that of discontinuum analysis with BB model show similar distribution of displacement and stress. On the other hand, the discontinuum analysis with MC model shows different displacement distribution and stress distribution. Moreover, the displacement and minor principal stress of the discontinuum analysis with MC model are smaller than those of continuum analysis, although the joints are explicitly considered in the discontinuum analysis. These results are originated from the limitation of MC model in simulating joint deformation behavior, especially the assumption of constant dilation jingle independent of it)int 7hear displacement.
We have investigated 63 intense geomagnetic storms (Dst $\leq$ -100 nT) that occurred from 1998 to 2006. Using these events, we compared Dst forecast models: Burton et al. (1975), Fenrich and Luhmann (1998), O'Brien and McPherron (2000a), Wang et al. (2003), and Temerin and Li (2002, 2006) models. For comparison, we examined a linear correlation coefficient, RMS error, the difference of Dst minimum value (${\Delta}$peak), and the difference of Dst minimum time (${\Delta}$peak_time) between the observed and the predicted during geomagnetic storm period. As a result, we found that Temerin and Li model is mostly much better than other models. The model produces a linear correlation coefficient of 0.94, a RMS (Root Mean Square) error of 14.89 nT, a MAD (Mean Absolute Deviation) of ${\Delta}$peak of 12.54 nT, and a MAD of ${\Delta}$peak_time of 1.44 hour. Also, we classified storm events as five groups according to their interplanetary origin structures: 17 sMC events (IP shock and MC), 18 SH events (sheath field), 10 SH+MC events (Sheath field and MC), 8 CIR events, and 10 nonMC events (non-MC type ICME). We found that Temerin and Li model is also best for all structures. The RMS error and MAD of ${\Delta}$peak of their model depend on their associated interplanetary structures like; 19.1 nT and 16.7 nT for sMC, 12.5 nT and 7.8 nT for SH, 17.6 nT and 15.8 nT for SH+MC, 11.8 nT and 8.6 nT for CIR, and 11.9 nT and 10.5 nT for nonMC. One interesting thing is that MC-associated storms produce larger errors than the other-associated ones. Especially, the values of RMS error and MAD of ${\Delta}$peak of SH structure of Temerin and Li model are very lower than those of other models.
This paper examines sorption of Pd(II) onto illite, MX-80 bentonite, and Queenston shale in Na-Ca-Cl solutions of varying ionic strength (IS) from 0.01 to 6.0 mol/L (M) and pHc ranging from 3 to 9 under atmospheric conditions. A 2-site protolysis non-electrostatic surface complexation and cation exchange model was applied to the Pd sorption onto illite and MX-80 using PHREEQC, and the model results were compared to the experimental ones obtained in this work. Surface complexation and cation exchange constants were estimated for both illite and MX-80 through the optimization process to bring the predicted distribution coefficients from the model into alignment with the experimentally derived values. These optimized surface complexation constants were compared to existing linear free energy relationships (LFER).
This paper first presents an experimental study of twelve specimens for their creep performance, including nine concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns and three plain concrete columns, subjected to three levels of sustained axial loads for 1710 days. Then, the creep strain curves are predicted from the existing creep models including the ACI 209 model, the MC 78 model, and the MC 90 model, and further a fitted creep model is obtained by experimental data. Finally, the creep effects of a CFST arch bridge are analyzed to compare the accuracy of the existing creep models. The experimental results show that the creep strains in CFST specimens are far less than in the plain concrete specimens and still increase after two years. The ACI 209 model outperforms the MC 78 model and the MC 90 model when predicting the creep behavior of the CFST specimens. Analysis results indicate that the creep effects in the CFST arch bridge are significant. The deflections and stresses calculated by the ACI 209 model are the closest to the fitted model in the three existing models, demonstrating that the ACI 209 model can be used for creep analysis of CFST arch bridges and can meet the engineering accuracy requirement when lack of experimental data.
In this article, I identified many points of commonness and differences at)feared in the fraction units of three conspicuous textbooks -McLellan, MiC and Korea. After that, 1 evaluated these results with reference to more general didactics on which each text-book is based. A background theory of Mc-Lellan's textbook was Dewey's experientialism, and that of MiC was Freudenthal's realistic mathematics education. Through this study, I have reached the fact that these three textbooks could not exhibit the phenomenological wholeness of fraction. Driven by measuring number model which is very abstractive, McLellan's text-book is disregarding the lower level context. MiC textbook, driven by real context, is ignoring higher level model which is close to rational number concept. From an excess of formulation and practice of algorithm, Korea's textbook is overlooking the real context. It is necessary that a textbook which would display the phenomenological wholeness of fraction is developed.
This paper presents a novel close-loop control scheme based on small signal modeling and weighted composite voltage feedback for a three-phase input and single-phase output Matrix Converter (3-1MC). A small non-polar capacitor is employed as the decoupling unit. The composite voltage weighted by the load voltage and the decoupling unit voltage is used as the feedback value for the voltage controller. Together with the current loop, the dual-loop control is implemented in the 3-1MC. In this paper, the weighted composite voltage expression is derived based on the sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (SPWM) strategy. The switch functions of the 3-1MC are deduced, and the average signal model and small signal model are built. Furthermore, the stability and dynamic performance of the 3-1MC are studied, and simulation and experiment studies are executed. The results show that the control method is effective and feasible. They also show that the design is reasonable and that the operating performance of the 3-1MC is good.

Recent concrete structures have been being constructed with higher strength concrete than normal strength concrete. Therefore, it is necessary to review the applicabilities of current design codes and models for the prediction of mechanical behaviors of concrete materials such as creep. To investigate the applicability of creep model with the consideration of the strength level of concrete, three current models (ACI 209R, CEB-FIP MC90 and EC2) were studied and compared with series of experimental results. It was shown that EC2 model which is the updated model of CEB-FIP MC90 better predicts creep coefficient for high strength level concretes and showed relatively good agreements with experimental data.
This study aimed to develop high-efficiency grouting techniques under deep-depth conditions by experimentally verifying the applicability of various injection materials. Particle size analysis and injection model experiments were conducted with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Micro Cement (MC) to evaluate the injection performance of each material. Using Barton's Cubic Network theory, the rock fracture spacing was calculated for domestic deep-depth standards, specifically below 40 meters underground. The analysis of particle size passability under selected conditions showed that MC could pass through the rock fracture gaps, while OPC could not. According to the results of the injection model experiments using experimental devices and area calculation software, OPC failed in injection due to its larger particle size, whereas MC was capable of injection even under high-viscosity conditions. Based on these findings, the study quantitatively and visually derived the applicability of grouting materials under deep-depth conditions, and high-viscosity MC material is expected to be effective for waterproofing enhancement in deep-depth rock fracture surfaces.

We consider a generalized partly-parametric additive risk model which generalizes the partly parametric additive risk model suggested by McKeague and Sasieni (1994). As an estimation method of this model, we propose to use the weighted least square estimation, suggested by Huffer and McKeague (1991), for Aalen's additive risk model by a piecewise constant risk. We provide an illustrative example as well as a simulation study that compares the performance of our method with the ordinary least squares method.
