The purpose of this study was to investigate why advance organizers (AO) are effective in promoting comprehension and mental model formation in terms of cognitive load. Two experimental groups: a concept-map AO group and a key-word AO group and one control group were used. This study considered cognitive load in view of Baddeley's working memory model: central executive (CE), phonological loop (PL), and visuo-spatial sketch pad (VSSP). The present experiment directly examined cognitive load using dual task methodology. The results were as follows: central executive (CE) suppression task achievement for the concept map AO group was higher than the key word AO group and control group. Comprehension and mental model construction for the concept map AO group were higher than the other groups. These results indicated that the superiority of concept map AO owing to CE load decrement occurred with comprehension and mental model construction in learning. Thus, the available resources produced by CE load reduction may have been invested for comprehension and mental model construction of learning contents.
This study investigated the effect of generative concept maps according to learning achievements and cognitive load. A total of 78 students in the first grade of middle school participated in this study. Before the experimental treatment was implemented, students had to fill out a questionnaire assessing prior knowledge. The study was designed where all the students were presented the same learning contents regarding photosynthesis; however, the two experimental groups were provided with different concept map methods: a learner-generative concept map (GCM) and an instructor-provided concept map (PCM). GCM students were asked to make a concept map by themselves in small groups while they are reading material. PCM students were instructed to study in small groups in order to read the material; however, they were provided a concept map developed by their teacher. The control group (CG) had the teacher present the learning contents in traditional lecture format with no accompanying concept map. The results show that there were significant differences in the achievements among the groups. CG showed higher achievement than both the experimental groups. There was also a significant difference in cognitive load. Although the GCM group did not obtain higher achievement than the other groups, the GCM group showed higher mental effort and lower physical fatigue than the other groups. The GCM group might have invested more effort to find and connect ideas when drawing their concept map with peers which is unlike the conditions for the PCM group and CG. In conclusion, we should consider applying GCM in teaching and learning design in order to increase learning achievement and decrease extraneous cognitive load.

HMIPv6 draws lots of attentions in recent years for providing an efficient handover and reducing the signaling overhead. HMIPv6 employs MAP(Mobility Anchor Point) in order to minimize a signaling overhead and a local mobility management. MAP completes an efficient mobility management in HMIPv6 network environment with frequent handover. However, HMIPv6 causes load concentration at a paricular MAP and may have unnecessary latency between HN(Mobile Node) and CN(Correspondent Node) within the same network. A MAP may also disturb the route optimization in HMIPv6 network because all packets must be transmitted through a MAP. In this paper, we propose a scheme to optimize the route in HMIPv6 networks according to MAP load. We configure a threshold in order to support the better service into MAP domain. The packets do not pass through MAP and are directly transmitted to AR(Access Router) if the number of current MNs attached to the MAP exceed the desired threshold. We simulate the performance of the proposed scheme and compare with HMIPv6. Resultly, the proposed scheme reduces signaling costs and mitigates concentration of a paticular MAP as well.

An overall responding security-centered framework is necessary required for infringement accidents, failures, and cyber threats. On the other hand, the correspondence structures of existing administrative, technical, physical security have weakness in a system responding to complex attacks because each step is performed independently. This study will recognize all internal and external users as a potentially threatening element. To perform connectivity analysis regarding an action, an intelligent convergence security framework and road map is suggested. A suggested convergence security framework was constructed to be independent of an automatic framework, such as the conventional single solution for the priority defense system of APT of the latest attack type, which makes continuous reputational attacks to achieve its goals. This study suggested the next generation convergence security framework to have preemptive responses, possibly against an APT attack, consisting of the following five hierarchical layers: domain security, domain connection, action visibility, action control, and convergence correspondence. In the domain, the connection layer suggests a security instruction and direction in the domains of administrative, physical and technical security. The domain security layer has consistency of status information among the security domain. A visibility layer of an intelligent attack action consists of data gathering, comparison and decision cycle. The action control layer is a layer that controls the visibility action. Finally, the convergence corresponding layer suggests a corresponding system of before and after an APT attack. The administrative security domain had a security design based on organization, rule, process, and paper information. The physical security domain is designed to separate into a control layer and facility according to the threats of the control impossible and control possible. Each domain action executes visible and control steps, and is designed to have flexibility regarding security environmental changes. In this study, the framework to address an APT attack and load map will be used as an infrastructure corresponding to the next generation security.
Effective tools which can alleviate the complexity and computational load problem in collision-free motion planning for multi-agent system have steadily been demanded in robotics field. To reduce the complexity, the extended collision map (ECM) which adopts decoupled approach and prioritization is already proposed. In ECM, the collision regions which represent the potential collision of robots are calculated using the computational power; the complexity problem is not resolved completely. In this paper, we propose a mathematical analysis of the extended collision map; as a result, we formulate the collision region as an equation with 5-8 variables. For mathematical analysis, we introduce realistic assumptions as follows; the path of each robot can be approximated to a straight line or an arc and every robot moves with uniform velocity or constant acceleration near the intersection between paths. Our result reduces the computational complexity in comparison with the previous result without losing optimality, because we use simple but exact equations of the collision regions. This result can be widely applicable to coordinated multi-agent motion planning.
The IMV is a combination of four two-way valve systems which replace a conventional four-way spool valve to improve efficiency mostly in excavator hydraulics. As the environmental regulations for construction equipment have tightened, some overseas advanced companies have released commercial excavators in which the MCV is implemented with the IMVs. Development of the IMV type MCV relies on the control algorithm as well as the robust performance of proportional flow control valves. In this study, the IMV controller was designed and verified with experiments for the excavator working unit, which determines the IMV mode of operation and the extent of the valve opening in consideration of the load conditions on hydraulic actuators. First, the open-loop controller was designed with a joystick command vs. a PSV reference current map comprising several control parameters in to compensate for the different flow characteristics and non-linearities of two-way flow control valves. Second, the closed-loop controller was designed with the PI control fed by the actuator displacement and outputs actuator percent effort equivalent to the operator's joystick command. Finally, the performance of the IMV type MCV was verified with the trajectory control of position references derived from the energy consumption test standard. Experimental results showed the control performance of the IMV developed in this study, and suggest that future studies to be conducted to advance technical progress.

Automatic Rudder Trim System(ARTS) is a device to reduce the pilot's work load for rudder trimming greatly required in varying abruptly aircraft's engine power. This paper represents a technical analysis and a design of control law of the ARTS. The control law of the ARTS is designed based on the analysis of aircraft's characteristics, system's requirements, and limitations. The control law is comprised of open loop control using the rudder trim map for a specific aircraft and closed loop control to compensate the error of the open loop control system. flight test results show that the ARTS can reduce pilot's work load for rudder trimming dramatically and can compensate the aircraft's transient yaw motion.

According to the change of the traffic conditions, the requirement of controlling the separated left(or right) turn, the median bus lane and bicycle signal is increasing. However, the traffic signal controller standard based on the four-set lights restricts to control the three-set lights which control the separated direction and kind of traffics. This study suggests the method to control the three-set lights signal by improving the hardware and software for the traffic signal controller which is operated currently in the traffic scene. The 6 output ports of Load Signal Unit(LSU) which is consisted of Pedestrian Red, Pedestrian Green, Red, Yellow, Arrow and Green signal reconstitute 2 rows of the Red, Yellow, Green for three-set lights while the Signal Map data's code values which control the signal step of an individual Ring and LSU are established to adjust the LSU's output ports(R1 Y1 G1 R2 Y2 G2) of the three-set lights. The effect of using the separated through/left turn and the median lane bus signal of three-set lights is analyzed from a Mangwoo intersection in Seoul. The results of analysis show that the delay time of the east-west direction where the median bus lane is operated is especially improved with over 70 sec/veh.
In order to set the outdoor weather conditions to be applied to the design standard of the greenhouse heating and cooling system, outdoor air temperature and heating degree-hour for heating design, dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature and solar irradiance for cooling design were analyzed and presented. For every region in Korea, we used thirty years from 1981 to 2010 hourly weather data for analysis, which is the current standard of climatological normal provided by KMA. Since the use of standard weather data is limited, design weather conditions were obtained using the entire weather data for 30 years, and the average value of the entire data period was presented as a design standard. The design weather data with exceedance probability of 1, 2.5, and 5% were analyzed by the TAC method, and we presented the distribution map with exceedance probability of 1% for heating and 2.5% for cooling which are recommended by design standards. The changes of maximum heating load, seasonal heating load and maximum cooling load were examined by regions, exceedance probabilities, and setpoint temperatures. The proposed outdoor design conditions can be used not only directly for the greenhouse heating and cooling design, but also for the reinforcement of heating and cooling facilities and the establishment of energy saving measures. Recently, due to the climate change, sweltering heat in summer and abnormal temperature in winter are occurring frequently, so we need to analyze weather data periodically and revise the design standard at least every 10 years cycle.

The traffic signal controllers being used in the domestic currently are being manufactured based on the korean national police standard which was developed for controlling the quad-light traffic signal having the red, yellow, left-turn arrow, and green lights. But according to the national policy for the traffic operation, they have to be changed to be able to switch the tri-light signal having red, yellow and green lights. In this study, a new tri-light traffic signal controller was designed and developed by the way improving the Signal Control Unit of the existing quad-light standard traffic controller. The Load Signal Unit(LSU) was improved to output 6 signals which are the two assemblies of three signal indications having the red, yellow, and green lights. To enough traffic signals output to control each directional movements and the various transport modes which are car, bus, bike, and pedestrian etc., the connector bus system was designed to be able to accommodate maximum 96 signals outputs being constructed by 16 LSUs. Flasher device was developed to be able to support maximum 32 red signals. In the software, the communication protocol between traffic control center and the traffic signal controller was improved and new signal map code values were defined for the developed LSU controlling the quad-light traffic signal. A model of the quad-light traffic signal controller developed and was tested three operations, protocol-operation, remote-command and control-mode. The test result operated all of them successfully.
