Recently full-duplex communication in wireless networks is enabled by the advancement of self-interference cancellation technology. Full-duplex radio is a promising technology for next-generation wireless local area networks (WLAN) because it can simultaneously transmit and receive signals within the same frequency band. Since legacy medium access control (MAC) protocols are designed based on half-duplex communication, they are not suitable for full-duplex communication. In this paper, we discuss considerations of full-duplex communication and propose a novel full-duplex MAC protocol. We conducted a simulation to measure the throughput of our MAC protocol. Through the simulation results, we can verify that significant throughput gains of the proposed full-duplex MAC protocol, thus comparing the basic full-duplex MAC protocol.

The communication in wireless sensor network is divided into several layers, because of each of them do their role, the wireless communication is possible, the MAC (Medium Access Control) layer of the one of sensor network communications layer is used to the data errors, control flow, and manage resources. Using MAC Protocol, it ensures the communication between sensor node. In this paper, highlighted the energy efficiency of the S-MAC, T-MAC protocol it emphasized the efficiency of energy by lessening the woken time of all nods effectively, transmitting and receiving the control packet on only necessary nods through use of a method that RTS packet is added to SYNC packet and making other nods sleep. On sending SYNC+RTS packet and receiving the packet, nod noticed that it wasn't necessary to be awaked on this period, would be in Sleep mode, demonstrated mathematically that energy is more effective than existing protocol, and simulated with MATLAB.

In this paper we describe an asynchronous MAC protocol with receiver-initiated duty cycling for energy-efficiency in wireless sensor networks(WSN). Legacy asynchronous MAC protocols, X-MAC and PW-MAC, has weaknesses which generates too many control packets and has data collision problem between multiple transmitters, respectively. Therefore, we propose a receiver-initiated asynchronous MAC protocol which generates control packets from transmitter to complement these disadvantages. Compared to the prior asynchronous duty cycling approaches of X-MAC and PW-MAC, the proposed protocol shows a improvement in energy-efficiency, throughput and latency from simulation results.

The fundamental design goal of wireless sensor MAC protocols is to minimize unnecessary power consumption of the sensor nodes, because of its stringent resource constraints and ultra-power limitation. In existing MAC protocols in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), duty cycling, in which each node periodically cycles between the active and sleep states, has been introduced to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. Existing MAC schemes, however, use a fixed duty cycling regardless of multi-hop communication and traffic fluctuations. On the other hand, there is a tradeoff between energy efficiency and delay caused by duty cycling mechanism in multi-hop communication and existing MAC approaches only tend to improve energy efficiency with sacrificing data delivery delay. In this paper, we propose two different MAC schemes (ADS-MAC and ELA-MAC) using closed-loop control in order to achieve both energy savings and minimal delay in wireless sensor networks. The two proposed MAC schemes, which are synchronous and asynchronous approaches, respectively, utilize an adaptive timer and a successive preload frame with closed-loop control for adaptive duty cycling. As a result, the analysis and the simulation results show that our schemes outperform existing schemes in terms of energy efficiency and delivery delay.
This paper describes a high speed MAC(Media Access Control) function chip for IEEE 802.11 MAC layer protocol. The MAC chip has control registers and interrupt scheme for interface with CPU and deals with transmission/reception of data as a unit of frame. The developed MAC chip is composed of protocol control block, transmission block, and reception block which supports the BCF function in IEEE 802.11 specification. The test suite which is adopted in order to verify operation of the MAC chip includes various functions, such as RTS-CTS frame exchange procedure, correct IFS(Inter Frame Space)timing, access procedure, random backoff procedure, retransmission procedure, fragmented frame transmission/reception procedure, duplicate reception frame detection, NAV(Network Allocation Vector), reception error processing, broadcast frame transmission/reception procedure, beacon frame transmission/reception procedure, and transmission/reception FIEO operation. By using this technique, it is possible to reduce the load of CPU and firmware size in high speed wireless LAN system.
The Berkeley-medium access control (B-MAC) is a lightweight, configurable and asynchronous duty cycle medium access control (MAC) protocol in wireless sensor networks. This article presents an analytic modelling of single-hop B-MAC protocol under a Poisson traffic assumption. Our model considers important B-MAC parameters such as the sleep cycle, the two stage backoff mechanism, and the extended preamble. The service delay of an arriving packet and the energy consumption are calculated by an iterative method. The simulation results verify that the proposed analytic model can accurately estimate the performance of single-hop B-MAC with different operating environments.

In dense deployments of sensor nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks, the MAC protocol has challenges to solve problems such as reducing delivery delay and reducing energy consumption. To solve these problems lots of protocols are suggested. This paper proposed a sensor nodes' residual energy based wake-up control mechanism, in which each node decides whether it wakes up or stays in sleep mode to save energy consumption by reducing unnecessary idle listening. The main idea of the wake-up control mechanism is to save node's energy consumption. The proposed wake-up control mechanism is based on the RI-MAC protocol, which is one of the receiver-initiated MAC protocols. A receiver node in the proposed mechanism periodically wakes up and broadcasts a beacon signal based on the energy status of the node. A receiver node also adjusts wake-up period based on the traffics. Results have shown that the proposed MAC protocol outperformed RI-MAC protocol in the terms of energy consumption.

The effective channel usage is important for delivering a large number of packets in a short time, and it enhances channel utilization in sensor networks. Channel utilization is a good metric to illustrate MAC protocol efficiency. This paper presents the MAC(Media Access Control) Protocol that combines the advantages of B-MAC(Berkeley-MAC) and TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) to obtain high channel utilization. Basically, Using the backoff, CCA(Clear Channel Assessment) and LPL(Low Power Listen) mechanisms reduce collision and energy consumption, this protocol makes at the same time transmission method different depending on contention state and obtains high channel utilization. Through the simulation, this paper shows enhanced performance comparing with existing MAC Protocols.
In this paper, we designed a B-WLL MAC(Media Access Control) protocol and validated its operation for implementation of high-speed subscriber networks. Our MAC protocol was designed by SDL using the DAVIC specifications based upon the variable contention/reserved time slot allocation algorithm. For validation of our MAC protocol, Syntax and semantic error check were performed by the Simulation Builder of ObjectGeode and the MAC(Message Sequence Chart) respectively. The validation results showed that our B-WLL MAC protocol is working correctly and may successfully support B-WLL services.
In this paper, we propose a multi-channel medium access control (MAC) protocol, named underwater multi-channel MAC protocol (UMMAC), for underwater acoustic networks (UANs). UMMAC is a split phase and reservation based multi-channel MAC protocol which enables hosts to utilize multiple channels via a channel allocation and power control algorithm (CAPC). In UMMAC, channel information of neighboring nodes is gathered via exchange of control packets. With such information, UMMAC allows for as many parallel transmissions as possible while avoiding using extra time slot for channel negotiation. By running CAPC algorithm, which aims at maximizing the network's capacity, users can allocate their transmission power and channels in a distributed way. The advantages of the proposed protocol are threefold: 1) Only one transceiver is needed for each node; 2) based on CAPC, hosts are coordinated to negotiate the channels and control power in a distributed way; 3) comparing with existing RTS/CTS MAC protocols, UMMAC do not introduce new overhead for channel negotiation. Simulation results show that UMMAC outperforms Slotted floor acquisition multiple access (FAMA) and multi-channel MAC (MMAC) in terms of network goodput (50% and 17% respectively in a certain scenario). Furthermore, UMMAC can lower the end-to-end delay and achieves a lower energy consumption compared to Slotted FAMA and MMAC.
