Verification, Validation, and Accreditation (VV&A) Considering Military and Defense Characteristics

  • In this paper, we identify the characteristics of modeling and simulation (M&S) for military and defense and propose the method of verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) using the identified characteristics. M&S has been widely used for many different applications in military and defense, including training, analysis, and acquisition. Various methods and processes of VV&A have been proposed by researchers and M&S practitioners to guarantee the correctness of M&S. The notion of applying formal credibility assessment in VV&A originated in software engineering reliability testing and the systems engineering development process. However, the VV&A techniques and processes proposed for M&S by the research community have not addressed the characteristics and issues specific to military and defense. We first identify the characteristics and issues of military/defense M&S and then propose techniques and methods for VV&A that are specific for military/defense M&S. Possible approaches for the development of VV&A are also proposed.

반송파 주파수 오프셋의 존재하에서 Trellis Coded OFDM/M-ary PSK 시스템의 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of Trellis Coded OFDM/M-ary PSK Systems in the presence of tarrier Frequency Offset)

  • 본 논문에서는 OFDM/M-ary PSK 시스템의 BER 성능을 반송파 주파수 오프셋을 고려하여 분석하였고, 부호화와 변조를 동시에 행할 수 있는 TCM 기법을 OFDM/M-ary PSK시스템에 적용하여 반송파 주파수 오프셋에 따른 성능 열화를 보상하였다. 성능 해석 결과, 주파수 오프셋이 커짐에 따라 OFDM/M-ary PSK 시스템의 성능이 열화 됨을 알 수 있었고, 10 dB의 Eb/No로 $BER= 10^{-3}$ 을 달성하기 위해서는 주파수 오프셋을 0.025이하로 제한해야 함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 음성 서비스 ($BER= 10^{-3}$)를 목표로 하는 경우 TCM 기법을 적용함으로써 약 4 dB의 성능 개선이 얻어짐을 알 수 있었다.

  • 수 많은 기업들이 기업 성장 및 생존 전략의 일환으로 인수 합병 (M&A, merger and acquisition)을 선택하고 있다. 그러나 상당수의 기업들이 본래 의도했던 시너지 효과를 창출하지 못하고 인수 합병 실패로 인해 생산성 저하, 시장 점유율 하락, 수익 감소, 유능한 직원의 이직 등 많은 부작용을 경험하고 있다. 이에 따라 인수 합병 성공 및 실패 원인을 분석하고자 하는 많은 연구가 진행되었고, 정보시스템에 대한 기업들의 의존도 증가와 더불어 인수 합병 이후 정보시스템 통합(post-M&A information systems integration)이 인수 합병 성공에 결정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 그러나 인수 합병 이후 정보시스템 통합 성공에 대한 연구가 매우 부족하며, 대부분의 선행연구가 정보시스템 조직 통합 또는 물리적인 정보시스템의 통합 등과 같이 단편적으로 이루어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 인수 합병 이후 정보시스템 통합 성공에 영향을 미치는 요인들에 대한 포괄적인 연구를 위하여 정보시스템뿐만 아니라 전략 경영, 경제학, 재무학, 인사관리, 조직관리 분야의 선행연구를 조사하였다 이를 기반으로 인수 합병 이후 정보시스템 통합 영향요인에 대한 통합 모델을 제시하였다. 제시된 모형에서는 영향요인들을 인수 합병 관점, 전략 관점, 조직 관점, 인사관리 관점, 정보시스템 관점으로 재 분류하고, 사례연구를 통하여 각 요인들이 정보시스템 통합 성공에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 검증하였다.

  • We introduce the concept of IVF almost M-continuity and investigate characterizations for such mappings on the interval-valued fuzzy topological spaces. We study the relationships between IVF almost M-continuous mapping and IVF compactness.

  • A major problem in the adoption of advanced manufacturing systems such as F.M.S. (Flexible Manufacturing Systems) is the prerequisite economic justification process because of high investment needed for the acquisition and installation of F.M.S. While some of the benefits expected are readily quantifiable, others are very difficult or even impossible, using conventional method. Thus the investment in F.M.S. should be considered as a strategic decision rather than a tactical decision which concerns with only financial implications. In this paper we review papers on major justification techniques developed during thelast decade and identify the benefits of F.M.S. and describe the considerations in the justification of F.M.S. Also, we deal with the current and future research directions in justifying F.M.S.

  • In this paper, we first present an in-depth survey of the research on Verification, Validation and Accreditation (VV&A) applied in various areas. Then we introduce the characteristics of the military and defense Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and propose the direction of method for VV&A with the identified characteristics. The M&S has been widely used in many different applications in the military and defense area including training, analysis, and acquisition. Methods and processes of VV&A have been proposed by researchers and M&S practitioners to guarantee the correctness of the M&S. The idea of applying the formal credibility assessment in VV&A is originated from the Software Engineering Reliability Test and Systems Engineering Development Process. However, the current VV&A techniques and processes proposed in the research community have not utilized the military-and-defense specific characteristics. We identify the characteristics and issues that can be found in the military and defense M&S. Then propose the direction of techniques and methods for VV&A considering the characteristics and issues. Also, possible research direction on the development of VV&A is proposed.

Mass inflow history of satellite systems around a dwarf galaxy

  • We aim to investigate inflow history of matters that fall into the satellite systems around a dwarf galaxy in Lambda-Cold Dark Matter model. Each satellite system has unique properties because all satellite systems have different mass inflow history by environments and/or the events such as cosmic reionization and merging with other halos. To trace mass inflow history of the satellite systems, we perform three different cosmological zoom simulations whose galaxy mass is ${\sim}10^{10}M_{sun}$. Each initial zoom simulation covers a cubic box of $1Mpc/h^3$ with 17 million particles. Particle mass for dark matter (DM) and gas components is $M_{DM}=4.1{\times}10^3M_{sun}$ and $M_{gas}=7.9{\times}10^2M_{sun}$, respectively. Thus, each satellite system is resolved with more than hundreds - thousands of particles. We analyze the influence of the gravitational interaction with host galaxy, baryonic matter inflow by various cooling mechanisms, and merging events with other halos on the mass inflow history of satellite systems.

기업 인수 및 합병 시 정보시스템 통합성과 결정요인에 관한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Factors Influencing Informations Systems Integration Performance in Mergers and Acquisitions)

  • Effectively integrating information systems in mergers and acquisitions of large organizations can be critical to merger success. But the general literature on M&A focuses on the financial aspects of the acquisition process, rather than on the subsequent process of integration. This paper analyses the case of information systems integration in a merger of two Korean manufacturing organizations, and explores the factors influencing IS integration in M&A in Korea. To analysis this case and find factors affecting IS integration success, we use MIT'90s schema (framework) by Scott Morton that consists of 5 dimensions (strategy, processes, structure, individuals/roles, and technology). From the results of this case study, we found 13 factors and 14 propositions influencing IS integrations performance in M&A in Korean companies. This research helps the company to avoid mistakes and to manage IS integration in M&A. Also this study provides guide line for further researches.

  • A very detail instruction of a m-Business application case for small scale company is given. Two results are proved. The one is that m-business application can reduce system building and maintaining fee. The other is that m-business application should running on the mobile machine with caching some application data on it.
