  • In this paper, the medium strength self-compacting concrete with simple mix design method was manufactured and investigated about the properties of flowability and strength. Two types of binders like as fly-ash and RP(rock powder) were contained to the SCC in order to obtain the target medium strength of 270-350kgf/$cm^2$. The experimental tests about slump-flow, reaching time to the slump-flow of 50cm, V-funnel and U-box were carried out in accordance with the specified by the Japanese Society of Civil Engineering(JSCE). The mechanical properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and static modulus of elasticity were checked with the requirements specified by KS.

  • A two-dimensional Euler code based on flux vector splitting scheme has been developed to simulate the behavior of supersonic shock wave over the cylinder. AF+ADI scheme was used for time integration. The sliding multiblock technique was implemented to handle the relative motion of the moving cylinder and the stationary tunnel. The code is validated with a problem of subsonic flow around a Naca-0012 airfoil. The Computation results show complex phenomena of the propagation of shock waves and the reflection as expansion wave at tunnel exit.

  • The Computer code KAIST-ADD LUFUNS has been developed to solve 3D compressible turbluent flow. This method employs Harten-Yee's modified upwind scheme in the explicit part and Steger-Warming Splitting in the implicit part. Flow past RAE wing-body aircraft has been computed for three different flow conditions. The result have shown good comparision with the experimental data. Baldwin-Lomax turbluence model is used for this computer code.

  • A tree-indexed autoregressive(AR) process is a time series defined on a tree which is generated by a branching process and/or a deterministic splitting mechanism. This short article is concerned with conditional heteroscedastic structure of the tree-indexed AR models. It has been usual in the literature to analyze conditional mean structure (rather than conditional variance) of tree-indexed AR models. This article pursues to identify quadratic conditional heteroscedasticity inherent in various tree-indexed AR models in a unified way, and thus providing some perspectives to the future works in this area. The identical conditional variance of sisters sharing the same mother will be referred to as the branching heteroscedasticity(BH, for short). A quasilikelihood but preliminary estimation of the quadratic BH is discussed and relevant limit distributions are derived.

  • The primary aim of this study was to investigate the bond strength between reinforcement and concrete. Large sized nine beams, which were produced from concrete with approximately ${f_c}^{\prime}=30$ MPa, were tested. Each beam was designed to include two bars in tension, spliced at the center of the span. The splice length was selected so that bars would fail in bond, splitting the concrete cover in the splice region, before reaching the yield point. In all experiments, the variable used was the reinforcing bar diameter. In the experiments, beam specimens were loaded in positive bending with the splice in a constant moment region. In consequence, as the bar diameter increased, bond strength and ductility reduced but, however, the stiffnesses of the beams (resistance to deflection) increased. Morever, a empirical equation was obtained to calculate the bond strength of reinforcement and this equation was compared with Orangun et al. (1977) and Esfahani and Rangan (1998). There was a good agreement between the values computed from the predictive equation and those computed from equations of Orangun et al. (1977) and Esfahani and Rangan (1998).

  • Lot-streaming is the process of splitting a job (lot) into sublots to allow the overlapping of operations between successive machines in a multi-stage production system. A new genetic algorithm (NGA) is proposed for an n-job, m-machine, lot-streaming flow shop scheduling problem with equal-size sublots in which the objective is to minimize the total stretch. The stretch of a job is the ratio of the amount of time the job spent before its completion to its processing time. NGA replaces the selection and mating operators of genetic algorithms (GAs) by marriage and pregnancy operators and incorporates the idea of inter-chromosomal dominance and individuals' similarities. Extensive computational experiments for medium to large-scale lot-streaming flow-shop scheduling problems have been conducted to compare the performance of NGA with that of GA.

  • This paper presents a parallel algorithm for the finite element analysis using relatively inexpensive transputer parallel system. The substructure method, which is highly parallel in nature, is used to improve the parallel computing efficiency by splitting up the whole structure into substructures. The proposed algorithm is applied to a simple two-dimensional magnetostatic problem. It is found that the more the number of transputer is increased, the more the total computation time is reduced. And the computational efficiency becomes better as the number of internal boundary nodes becomes smaller.

  • The effects of β-CD, Me-β-CD, and biphenyl capped β-CD on 1H NMR spectra of mandelic acid 1, α-methylbenzylamine 2 and 2-phenylpropionic acid 3 were investigated. Enantiomeric recognition was observed for mandelic acid 1 by all the hosts used, for α-methylbenzylamine 2 by β-CD and Me-β-CD, and for 2-phenylpropionic acid 3 by Me-β-CD. In the presence of biphenyl-capped β-CD, ο-, m-, and p-protons of the phenyl groups of the guests are discriminated due to ring current of the capped biphenyl group. The splitting pattern of the phenyl protons indicates that the phenyl group of the guests is inserted into the β-CD cavity from the secondary hydroxyl side and positioned in close proximity to the capped biphenyl ring. The magnitude of the upfield shifts of H3 and H5 protons of β-CD upon binding of guests 1-3 is similar to that caused by ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, suggesting that the substitution at benzylic carbon atom has little effect on the depth of the insertion of the phenyl group into the β-CD cavity and stability of the inclusion complexes.
