  • Large and ptotic breast reconstruction in patients who are not candidates for a transverse rectus abdominalis myocutaneous flap and revision surgery for the contralateral breast remains challenging. We developed a novel breast reconstruction technique using a latissimus dorsi myocutaneous (LD m-c) flap set at the posterior aspect of the reconstructed breast, combined with an anatomical silicone breast implant (SBI), following tissue expander surgery. We performed the proposed technique in four patients, in whom the weight of the resected tissue during mastectomy was >500 g and the depth of the inframammary fold (IMF) was >3 cm. After over-expansion of the lower portion of the skin envelope by a tissue expander, the LD m-c flap was transferred to cover the lower portion of the breast defect and to achieve a ptotic contour, with the skin paddle set at the posterior aspect of the reconstructed breast. An SBI was then placed in the rest of the breast defect after setting the LD m-c flap. No major complications were observed during the follow-up period. The proposed technique resulted in symmetrical and aesthetically satisfactory breasts with deep IMFs, which allowed proper fitting of the brassiere, following large and ptotic breast reconstruction.

  • In this study, the two-phase incompressible flow in two-dimensional channel considering the effect of surface tension is simulated using an improved level-set method. Quadratic element is used for solving the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations to avoid using an additional pressure equation, and Crank-Nicholson scheme and linear element are used for solving the advection equation of the level set function. Direct approach method using geometric information is implemented instead of the hyperbolic-type partial differential equation for the reinitializing the level set function. The benchmark test case considers various arrays of defomable droplets under different flow conditions in straight channel. The deformation and migration of the droplets are computed and the results are compared very well with the existing studies.

  • The observed radial UBV colour variations (both B-V and U-B) of some globular clusters are examined for correlations with radial variations in the integrated spectra. The results show that the presence of a radial colour gradient is correlated with the presence of a gradient of the CN (and possibly the G-band) line strength, in the sense that the CN (and possibly the G-band) is stronger in the centre (where the cluster is redder) and becomes weaker in the outer region of the cluster (where the cluster is bluer). This may suggest that a primordial abundance, possibly nitrogen and carbon gradient was set up in the early stage of cluster formation.

  • The ab initio calculations were performed on ClO and $ClO^+$ using the configuration interaction and M${\phi}$ller-Plesset methods of several different levels of approximation. Three different basis sets, 66 contracted Gaussian-type orbitals,6-31$G^*$ and 6-311$G^*$, were employed in this calculation. The results of calculation were compared with the experimental values of ClO. The values from the calculation with 66cGTO basis set gave excellent agreement with the experimental values. The spectroscopic constants of $ClO^+$ were also predicted.

  • In order to observe the change of ginsenosides, two simplified decoctive conditions are set up aqueous citric acids (0, 12.5, 25, 50, 75, and 100 mM) with ginseng powder (3 g) and Schisandrae Fructus (0, 1, 2, 3 g) with ginseng powder (3 g). Decoctive temperature and duration are $95^{\circ}C$ and 1.5 h. The contents of major ginsenosides are decreased by increasing concentration of citric acid. But the contents of converted ginsenosides have not been a noticeable increase. In the decoctive condition with Schisandrae Fructus, the contents of major protopanaxdiol ginsenosides seriously decreases that compared with major protopanaxtriol ginsenosides. Therefore, Schisandrae Fructus provides the condition that predominantly converts protopanaxdiol ginsenosides in ginseng decoction.

  • This paper investigates a resonant microaccelerometer that measures acceleration using a built-in micromechanical resonator, whose resonant frequency is changed by the acceleration-induced axial force. A set of design equations for the resonant microaccelerometer has been developed, including analytic formulae for resonant frequency, sensitivity, nonlinearity and maximum stress. On this basis, the sizes of the accelerometer are designed for the sensitivity of 10$^3$Hz/g in the detection range of 5g, while satisfying the conditions for the maximum nonlinearity of 5%, the minimum shock endurance of 100g and the size constraints placed by microfabrication process. A set of the resonant accelerometers has been fabricated by the combined use of bulk-micromachining and surface-micromachining techniques. From a static test of the cantilever beam resonant accelerometer, a frequency shift of 860Hz has been measured for the proof-mass deflection of 4.3${\pm}$0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$; thereby resulting in the detection sensitivity of 1.10${\times}$10$^3$Hz/g. Uncertainty analysis of the resonant frequency output has been performed to identify important issues involved in the design, fabrication and testing of the resonant accelerometer.

  • The purpose of this study was to promote the consumption of rice by substituting goami powder for flour when making muffins. Goami powder was prepared in different particle sizes by grinding the powder for 5 min. 10 min. 15 min. and 20 min. Precisely 72.62% of the goami powder, particles were smaller than 75 ${\mu}m$, after grinding the powder for 20 min. with a consistency similar to that of flour (78.86%). To determine the optimal amount of water for goami powder muffin batter, the viscosity of both the flour and the goami powder batter was measured. The appropriate water quantity for goami powder muffins was set at 105 mL. The volume index of flour muffins was 132 mL, while that of the goami powder muffin (GM1, GM2, GM3 and GM4) was 123 mL, 119 mL, 119 mL and 118 mL, respectively. The hardness of the flour muffins, measured by a texture analyer, was 2.03${\times}10^3$ g/$cm^2$, The hardnesses of the goami powder muffins were 2.83${\times}10^3$ g/$cm^2$ for GM1, 2.44${\times}10^3$ g/$cm^2$for GM2, 2.33${\times}10^3$ g/$cm^2$ for GM3, and 2.36${\times}10^3$ g/$cm^2$ for GM4. The L-values and moisture content of the goami powder muffins were higher than those of the flour muffins. In a sensory evaluation the overall preference was the highest for flour muffins. However among the goami powder muffins, GM3, which was made with goami powder ground for 15 min. was the most preferred.
