Characteristics of lightning impulse corona discharges under non-uniform electric fields in $SF_6$ and $SF_6/N_2$ mixtures (불평등전장에서 $SF_6$$SF_6/N_2$ 혼합기체의 뇌임펄스 전압에 대한 코로나 방전특성)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the prebreakdown characteristics in $SF_6/N_2$ mixtures under non-uniform electric fields when subjected to the positive and negative lightning impulse voltages. $SF_6/N_2$ mixtures have a merit of an environmental aspect and cost reduction, and safty aspects. In order to analyze the prebreakdown processes in $SF_6/N_2$ mixtures stressed by impulse voltages, prebreakdown current and light were observed by a shunt with high sensitivity and a photo-multiplier tube, respectively. Additionally, characteristics of luminous events in flashovers were discussed.

Electroluminescence Characteristics of OLED by Full-Wave Rectification Alternating Current Driving Method (전파 정류 교류 구동 방식에 의한 OLED의 전계발광 특성)

  • Single OLED and tandem OLED was manufactured to analyze the electroluminescence characteristics of DC driving, AC driving, and full-wave rectification driving. The threshold voltage of OLED was the highest in DC driving, and the lowest in full-wave rectification driving due to an improvement of current injection characteristics. The luminance at a driving voltage lower than 10.5 V (8,534 cd/m2) of single OLED and 20 V (7,377 cd/m2) of a tandem OLED showed that the full-wave rectification drive is higher than that of DC drive. The luminous efficiency of OLED is higher in full-wave rectification driving than in DC driving at low voltage, but decrease at high voltage. The full-wave rectification power source may obtain higher current density, higher luminance, and higher current efficiency than the AC power source. In addition, it was confirmed that the characteristics of AC driving and full-wave rectification driving can be predicted from DC driving characteristics by comparing the measured values and calculated values of AC driving and full-wave rectification driving emission characteristics. From the above results, it can be seen that OLED lighting with improved electroluminescence characteristics compared to DC driving is possible using full-wave rectification driving and tandem OLED.

Numerical Study on the Discharge Characteristics of Cylindrical Discharge Devices (원통형 방전소자의 방전특성 연구)

  • In this paper, the discharge characteristics of ac-type cylindrical discharge devices with diameters (D) in the $50{\sim}400{\mu}m$ range have been investigated numerically. The cylindrical devices have much lower breakdown voltages compared to the coplanar electrode structures. The breakdown voltage of the cylindrical structures increases with the decrease of diameters in $50{\sim}100{\mu}m$ range. In $100{\sim}200{\mu}m$ range, however, the breakdown voltage decreases slightly with the decrease of diameters. Also, as the diameter gets smaller, the electron heating efficiency is greatly improved.

  • Generally Lighting system consists of lamp and luminaire. When a fluorescent lamp is installed in luminaire, power and light output is changed by ambient temperature. Particularly electrodeless lamp depends on the changes that are mercury pressure with amalgam temperature and magnetic properties with ferrite temperature. It has finally influence on optical efficiency. In this study, the temperature change of ferrite and cold spot, vessel are measured at transitional state and then same characteristics are measured with increase of ambient temperature. At transitional state, luminous flux is related to temperature change of cold spot that compare with behavior of mercury pressure and light output. At increase of ambient temperature, we analyzed change that efficiency and electrical, optical characteristics of elecrodeless lamp are related to ferrite core and cold spot temperature.

An Analysis on the Discharge Characteristics through 1-D Numerical Simulation in an AC PDP (AC PDP에서 1차원 수치해석을 통한 방전 특성 연구)

  • In this paper, we analyze on the discharge characteristics through 1-D simulations in an at plasma display panel discharge cell. The model is based on a Poisson' equation, continuity and drift-diffusion equation. Results are presented in a 95% neon, 5% xenon gas mixture, for a gap length of 100us and a gas pressure of 400Torr at ambient temperature. Results for other gap length are also discussed. As a result, an increase of the gap cause increase of luminous efficiency but with larger sustaining voltage.

Flame Characteristics of Diesel Spray in the Condition of Partial Premixed Compression Ignition (부분 예혼합 압축착화 조건에서 디젤분무의 화염특성)

  • Diesel engines exhaust much more NOx(Nitrogen Oxides) and PM(Particulate Matter) than gasoline engines, and it is not easy to reduce both NOx and PM simultaneously because of the trade-off relation between two components. This study investigated flame characteristics of the partial premixed compression ignition known as new combustion method which can reduce NOx and PM simultaneously. The investigation was performed through the analysis of the flame images taken by a high speed camera from the visible engine which is the modified single cylinder diesel engine. The results obtained through this investigation are summarized as follows; (1) The area of the luminous yellow flame was reduced due to the decrease of flame temperature and even distribution of temperature. (2) The darkish yellow flame zone caused by the shortage of the remaining oxygen after the middle stage of combustion was considerably reduced. (3) Since the ignition delay was shortened, the violent combustion did not occur and the combustion duration became shortened.

  • Recently, an AC Plasma Display Panels(PDP) with the metal sustain electrodes have been reported in order to reduce the manufacturing cost of the AC PDP. However, the luminance and efficacy of the AC PDP with metal electrodes are worse than those of the AC PDP with ITO electrodes. In this paper, various ${\prod}$type metal electrodes are suggested, in order to improve the electro-optical characteristics of the AC PDP with metal electrodes. Among the suggested electrode types, luminance of Hump electrode structure is higher by $40\;cd/m^2$ and discharge current of Asymmetry electrode structure is lower by 5% than those of Pi electrode structure, respectively. Moreover, $T_1$ of Hump electrode structure is reduced to 10% as compared with Pi electrode structure in address period for ADS driving scheme. In all aspects, the characteristics of Hump and Asymmetry electrode structure show best performance.

The Thermal and Circuits Design of an LED Bulb Considering Temperature Property (온도 특성을 고려한 LED 전구의 방열 및 회로 설계)

  • Although LEDs have been used in various applications with improving the brightness and luminous efficacy, the electrical and optical characteristics of high power LED varies at different temperature and starting time. In this paper, optimal heat sink and apparatus design were conducted using IR camera and ICEPAK on the LED bulb consisting with fourteen LED array. The temperatures of heat sink and LED device of the designed LED bulb without cooling pan were $74^{\circ}C\;and\;96.8^{\circ}C$, respectively, showing in good themal characteristics. For high efficiency driving circuit of LED array adopted optimal heat sink design, driving circuits of constant voltage and current circuits were suggested and fabricated. As a result the efficacy of all driving circuits showed more than 20 lm/W. Also, the constant current circuits are suitable for signal lamp, hallway lamp, and flash lamp having short operating time(about 30 min). On the other hand, a reading light and indoor lamp having long operating time can be controlled by constant voltage circuit.

  • In this study, It is to synthesize PPV-copolymer and to make polymer electroluminesence device in single layer of ITO/PPV -copolymer/metal. and then it has been realized basic characteristics for display device through analysis and recognized application possibility by luminous material. PPV-copolymer is used spin coating method and electrode is evaporated of vacuum deposition method by changing materials. The result of experiment, The PPV-copolymer used this study emitted blue color, could be discovered a change of emttion characteristic by electrode material.

  • The discharge characteristics of He-Ne-Xe gas mixture with the variation of Xe content are investigated through the numerical simulation. VUV efficacy in the gas condition of low Xe content increases due to more excitation and the case of high Xe content shows the improvement of VUV efficacy with the increase of He content but decreased VUV efficacy after tthe He mixing ratio of He and Ne is 0.5 due to frequent ionization.
