Histogram-based luminance enhancement for image dehazing

  • Haze is an extreme reason of the reduction of contrast when capturing image in the outdoor. Recently, there are several single image dehazing techniques, but they are not robust in dynamic variations of natural environment caused by the thickness, coverage of haze and appearance of sunlight. In this paper, we propose an effective and robust method to enhance luminance for image dehazing depending on histogram analysis. Compare with conventional methods, our proposal have better performance in term of contrast, and computation time.

  • The image identification methodology associates an image with a unique identifiable representation. Whenever the methodology regenerates an identifier for the same image, moreover, the newly created identifier needs to be consistent in terms of representation value. In this paper, we discuss a methodology for image identifier generation utilizing luminance correlation. We furthermore propose a method for performance enhancement of the image identifier generation. We also demonstrate the experimental evaluations for uniqueness and similarity analysis and performance improvement that have shown favorable results.

안개 영상에서의 가시성 향상 기법 (Method for increasing visibility in single image dehazing)

  • We proposed a method for increasing visibility of dehazed images by enhancing luminance component of dehazed image. For this purpose, we analyze shape of luminance histogram in multi bunches and observe that increasing visibility those bunches does not bear over contrast enhancement. From the analysis and observation, histogram equalization intends to increase visibility of each bunch with less computation.

  • A novel Color Image Saturation enhancement method to strengthen video images without producing oversaturated or color contour artifacts is proposed in this paper. Based on the luminance information, the relations between luminance levels and maximum chrominance vectors in each subcolor are generated for each pixel, so that the upper bound of the allowed saturation factor for a pixel can be derived, and much vivid video image can be achieved

  • Powder type electroluminescent device(P-ELD) in this study was prepared by printing method. P-ELDs were basically composed of phosphor, insulator and transparent conducting layer. The phosphor powder was prepared by sintering the mixture of ZnS as a host, Cu as an activator, and NaCl as a flux for co-activator and enhancement of growth of the phosphor particles. The phosphor layer was made by printing the paste of the cyanoethylpullan as a binder and the ZnS system phosphor powder. In order to evaluate the luminescence characteristics of ZnS P-ELD, applied voltage - luminance(V-L), frequency-luminance(f-L), and relative luminance spectra(L- .lambda.) characteristics were measured. The experimental results show that luminance increased with increasing the applied voltage and frequency. It can be explained in terms of the potential barrier formed between ZnS and CuS. Two emission peaks in luminance-wavelength spectra measured at applied voltage of 100 $V_{rms}$ were observed at 500nm as a primary peak and 460nm as a secondary peak, respectively.y.

  • As a display becomes large recently, Acquisition of high luminance and Luminance uniformity is becoming difficult in the existing CCFL or EEFL backlight system. So, study for a performance enhancement has enforced. but lamp development of flat type is asked for high luminance and a luminance uniformity security in of LCD and area anger trend ultimately. In this paper, we changed a tip shape of an electrode for production by the most suitable LCD backlight surface light source, and confirmed discharge characteristic along discharge gas pressure and voltage, and confirmed electric field distribution and discharge energy characteristic through a Maxwell 2D simulation. Therefore the discharge firing voltage characteristic showed a low characteristic than a rectangular type and round type in case of electrode which used tip of a triangle type, and displayed a discharge electric current as a same voltage was low.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive color enhancement algorithm. It is used for the flat panel displays (FPDs) such as LCD, PDP, and so on. The proposed algorithm consists of an adaptive linear approximation CDF(Cumulative Density Function) algorithm and an adaptive saturation enhancement algorithm. The one is for contrast enhancement which prevents an image from the distortion by luminance transient of an input image. The other is the algorithm which improves the saturation without the contour artifact and over-saturation, whose problems are generated during the enhancing saturation. In addition, it allows to achieve the high quality image using the saturation enhancement method for a preferred color of original image. Visual test and standard deviation of their histograms have been applied to evaluate the resultant output images of the proposed algorithm.

  • Images taken from outdoor are degraded quality by fog or haze, etc. In this paper, we propose a method that provides the visibility improved images through fog or haze removal. We proposed haze removal method that uses brightness transform based on atmospheric scatter coefficient rate with local histogram equalization. To calculate the transmission rate that indicate fog rate in original image, we use atmospheric scatter coefficient rate based on quadratic equations about haze model. And primary brightness transformed image can be obtained by using the obtained transmission rate. Also we use local histogram equalization with proposed brightness transform for effectively image visibility enhancement. Unlike existing methods, our method can process real-time with stable and effect image visibility enhancement. Proposed method use only the luminance images processed by good performance surveillance systems because it represents the real-time processing is required, black-box, digital camera and multimedia equipment is applicable. Also because it shows good performance only with the luminance images processed, Surveillance systems, black boxes, digital cameras, and multimedia devices etc, that require real-time processing can be applied.

Efficiency and Lifetime Improvement of Organic Light- Emitting Diodes with a Use of Lithium-Carbonate- Incorportated Cathode Structure

  • Enhancement of efficiency and luminance of organic light-emitting diodes was investigated by the introduction of a lithium carbonate ($Li_2CO_3$) electron-injection layer. Electron-injection layer is used in organic light-emitting diodes to inject electrons efficiently between a cathode and an organic layer. A device structure of ITO/TPD (40 nm)/$Alq_3$ (60 nm)/$Li_2CO_3$ (x nm)/Al (100 nm) was manufactured by thermal evaporation, where the thickness of $Li_2CO_3$ layer was varied from 0 to 3.3 nm. Current density-luminance-voltage characteristics of the device were measured and analyzed. When the thickness of $Li_2CO_3$ layer is 0.7 nm, the current efficiency and luminance of the device at 8.0 V are improved by a factor of about 18 and 3,000 compared to the ones without the $Li_2CO_3$ layer, respectively. The enhancement of efficiency and luminance of the device with an insertion of $Li_2CO_3$ electron-injection layer is thought to be due to the lowering of an electron barrier height at the interface region between the cathode and the emissive layer. This is judged from an analysis of current density-voltage characteristics with a Fowler-Nordheim tunneling conduction mechanism model. In a study of lifetime of the device that depends on the thickness of $Li_2CO_3$ layer, the optimum thickness of $Li_2CO_3$ layer was obtained to be 1.1 nm. It is thought that an improvement in the lifetime is due to the prevention of moisture and oxygen by $Li_2CO_3$ layer. Thus, from the efficiency and lifetime of the device, we have obtained the optimum thickness of $Li_2CO_3$ layer to be about 1.0 nm.

에지 강조 정보를 이용한 오차확산 해프토닝 (The Error Diffusion halftoning Method Using Information of Edge Enhancement)

  • 선으로 구성된 회로도나 설계도 같은 특수 목적 영상을 처리할 경우 에지가 강조된 영상을 필요로 한다. 또한 프린터, 팩시밀리, LCD TV 등과 같은 이진 출력 장치에 연속 계조 영상을 표현하기 위한 디지털 해프토닝 방법 중 오차 확산 방법으로 이진 영상을 생성할 경우 에지가 흐려진다. 본 논문은 회로도나 설계도 등의 영상 뿐 아니라 이진 출력 장치 등에 사용되는 이진 영상의 에지를 강조하는 방법을 제안한다. 인간의 눈은 한 화소의 명암값이 아니라 국부 평균을 인식한다는 것을 이용하여 제안 방법은 원화소의 명암값과 $3{\times}3$ 블록의 평균 명암값과의 차이 값에 공간적 위치 값에 따른 가중치를 결합하여 국부 공간 변화량(LAM: local activity measure)을 사용한다. 제안된 시스템은 또한 LAM에 평균 명암도를 곱하여 얻어진 에지 강조 정보량(IEE: information of edge enhancement)을 사용한다. IEE를 양자화기 입력에 더하여 이진 영상의 에지를 강조한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션은 제안 방법이 기존의 방법에 비해 영상의 에지가 강조되어 시각적으로 선명한 영상을 생성한다. 또한 거리에 따른 에지 상관도와 로컬 평균 일치도를 이용하여 제안 방법과 기존 방법의 특성을 분석한다.
