Application and evaluation of boron nitride-assisted liquid silicon infiltration for preparing Cf/SiC composites

  • C/SiC composites were prepared by boron nitride (BN)-assisted liquid silicon infiltration (LSI), and their anti-oxidation and mechanical properties were investigated. The microstructures, bulk densities, and porosities of the C/SiC composites demonstrated that the infiltration of liquid silicon into the composites improved them, because the layered-structure BN worked as a lubricant. Increasing the amount of BN improved the anti-oxidation of the prepared C/SiC composites. This synergistic effect was induced by the assistance of BN in the LSI. More thermally stable SiC was formed in the composite, and fewer pores were formed in the composite, which reduced inward oxygen diffusion. The mechanical strength of the composite increased up to the addition of 3% BN and decreased thereafter due to increased brittleness from the presence of more SiC in the composite. Based on the anti-oxidation and mechanical properties of the prepared composites, we concluded that improved anti-oxidation of C/SiC composites can be achieved through BN-assisted LSI, although there may be some degradation of the mechanical properties. The desired anti-oxidation and mechanical properties of the composite can be achieved by optimizing the BN-assisted LSI conditions.

  • For the application of factory automation, a 3-axis numerical control system with personal computer and KM3701 function generator LSI chip, which has liner, circular, parabolic, logarithmic, and exponential interpolations, is developed. The developed system also has 2 control function to stabilize tooling speed and 1/1000mm step sizes.

  • Othogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) has been taken notice of 4th generation communication method because it has a merit of high data rate(HDR). To realize HDR communication, The OFDM a s high efficient Fast-Fourier-Transform (FFT)/Inversion FFT (IFFT) processor. Currently OFDM is realized by Digital Signal Processor(DSP) but it consumes a lot of Power. Therefore, current-mode FFT LSI has been proposed for compensation of this demerit. In this paper, we propose IVC for current-mode FFT LSI. From the simulation result, the output value of IVC is more than 3V when the value of FFT Block output is more than $7.35{\mu}A$. The output value of IVC is lower than 0.5V when the value of FFT Block output is lower than $0.97{\mu}A$. Designed IVC Low-power Current mode FFT LSI will contribute to the operation of current-mode FFT LSI and the development of next generation wireless communication systems.

  • Carbon fiber fabric-silicon carbide composites were fabricated by liquid silicon infiltration (LSI) process. The porous two-dimensional carbon fiber fabric performs were prepared by 13 plies of 2D-plain-weave fabric in a three laminating method, [0/90], [${\pm}45$], [$0/90/{\pm}45$] lay-up, respectively. Before laminating, a thin pyrolytic carbon (PyC) layer deposited on the surface of 2D-plain weave fabric sheets as interfacial layer with $C_3H_8$ and $N_2$ gas at $900^{\circ}C$. A densification of the preforms for $C_f-Si-SiC$ matrix composite was achieved according to the LSI process at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. in vacuum atmosphere. The bending strength of the each composite were measured and the microstructural consideration was performed by a FE-SEM.

  • A placement program in LSI layout is developed and the results of test are discussed in this paper. In order to achieve 100% wiring, this paper introduces, as a virtual routing method, an algorithm which is close to the real routing. This algorithm is reflected to calculate the channel density. An object function is introduced to achieve minimization of total wire length, number of cuts, and maximum channel density simultaneously. The time complexity for the proposed virtual routing algorithm is O(n2). The time required for the algorithm is very short. This algorithm represents the routing state which is close to minimum wire length. So this algorithm is very proper to the application of placement problem. An auto-placement program is developed by the use of this algorithm. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is shown in the test of the developed program.

  • The corrosion problems in water distribution system are reduced by decreasing the agressivity of drinking water which is evaluated by marble test and saturation indices(LSI or CCPP etc.). Marble test is a reliable method to determine the actual saturation condition of treated water. This study was done to determined the aggressivity of tap water and the effectiveness of $Ca(OH)_2$ and NaOH dosage for corrosion control. The drinking water in Seoul were evaluated by marble test and Langelier Index(LSI) and Calcium Carbonate Precipitation Potential(CCPP). The results indicated that the drinking water in Seoul were undersaturated as Calcium Carbonate($CaCO_3$). The LSI and CCPP of the water treated with $Ca(OH)_2$ were higher than that of water treated with NaOH. Therefore, to increase the Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness for corrosion control in water distribution system, $Ca(OH)_2$ is more effective than NaOH.

  • 최근 Analog Sampled-Data 신호처리를 위하여 주목되고 있는 SI(Switched-Current) circuit은 저전력 동작을 하는 장점이 있지만, 반면에 SI circuit에서의 기본 회로인 Current Memory는 Charge Injection에 의한 Clock Feedthrough이라는 치명적인 단점을 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 Current Memory의 문제점인 Clock Feedthrough의 일반적인 해결방안으로 Dummy Switch의 연결을 검토하였고, Austria Mikro Systeme(AMS)에서 $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process BSIM3 Model로 제작하기 위하여 Current Memory의 Switch MOS와 Dummy Switch MOS의 적절한 Width을 정의하여야 하므로, 그 값을 도출하였다. Simulation 결과, Switch의 Width는 $2{\mu}m$, Dummy Switch의 Width는 $2.35{\mu}m$로 정의될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we designed simultaneous 2-axis control system using commercialized custom ICs for positioning and interpolation that is very compact and high reliable. This system is primarily designed for NC system, we verified it is more complete than the other hardware & software based system in its function, control accuracy and cost. Also, this system can be expanded for multi-axis control, it can be applied to the control of more complicated mechanism such as articulated robot.
