Reducing drag of vehicles are the main concern for the body shape designers in order to lower fuel consumption rate and to aid the driving stability. The drag of bluff bodies like transportation vehicles is mostly pressure drag due to the flow separation, which can minimized by controlling the location and size of the separation bubble. In the present study, the TURBO-3D code is incorporated with optimal algorithm based on analytical approximation method to obtain optimal afterbody shape of the MIRA Model corresponding to the lowest drag coefficient. For this purpose three mutually independent afterbody angles are chosen as design variables, while the drag coefficient is chosen as an objective function. It is demonstrated in the present study that an optimal body shape having lowest drag coefficient which is about $6\%$ lower than that of the original shape has been successfully obtained within number of iterations of the optimal design loop.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences of visual effects by variations in the location and width of the waist band of one-piece dress. The stimuli are 24 samples: 8 variations of the location of the waist band and 3 variations of the width of the waist band. The data has been obtained from 50 fashion design majors. The data has analyzed by Factor Analysis, Anova, Scheffe's Test and the MCA method. The results of the study are as follows: According to the result of factor analysis of the visual effects based on the changes in the location and width of waist bands for one-piece dress, four factors were identified - verticality of whole-body, horizontality of upper-body, curves of lower-body and shape of breast. Whole-body verticality and upper-body horizontality were found to be the most important factor among them. In all of the four factors of the visual effects, significant differences were observed according to the location of the waist bands for one-piece dress. The visual effects were evaluated positively when the waist bands were positioned above the natural waist line and negatively when the waist bands were positioned below the natural waist line. In addition, significant differences were observed in the visual effects according to the width of waist bands when the waist bands were positioned above the natural waist line, and visual effects were better when the band width was 3.5cm and 4.5cm than the others. The interaction of the visual effect showed significant differences in horizontality of upper-body, curves of lower-body and shape of breast.

Through the recognition and the satisfaction of the lower part of the women body from age 30 to age 49 we studied 211 respondents of the women to analyze what lower part shape they want. The results are as follows. 1. The recognition of the lower Part showed certain degrees of differences in waist girth, abdomen girth, and weight according to the age. 2. The female of the 40s showed higher satisfaction of their lower part considering that of the 30s 3. The cluster analysis of the lower part shape of the 30s and 40s was classified into 5 types.
Obesity is a worldwide epidemic problem. The downward trend of an obesity onset age calls for research efforts on how to develop useful nutrition educational programs for children to maintain adequate body weight. Understanding the roles of objective and subjective body status in obesity-related attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors can provide important information. The current study aimed to examine obesity-related attitudes and knowledge and practices of eating behavior guidelines in relation to obesity and body shape satisfaction among children. The gender effect in the relations was also investigated. A self-administered survey was conducted with 260 fifth grade children at 2 public elementary schools in the suburbs of Seoul. Information on demographics, body size, body satisfaction, obesity-related attitudes and knowledge, and eating behaviors was collected. Study findings from one-way analysis of variance tests indicated no differences in mean scores of the attitudes, knowledge, and eating behaviors across the levels of obesity for both gender. The levels of body shape satisfaction was, however, found to be significantly related with the attitudes and eating behaviors in girls, while no such relation was seen in boys. Girls with lower body shape dissatisfaction had significantly more negative attitudes toward obesity which was not translated into practice of healthy eating behaviors. That is, contrary to general expectation, the level of practicing the eating behavior guidelines was significantly lower in those girls. While underlying reasons for this observation is not fully answered, gender-specific, body satisfaction-stratified, and behavior-focused approach in designing obesity prevention programs for elementary school girls is suggested efficient and useful.
This study is aimed at exploring a reasonable and reliable method of measuring pre-school children's somatotypes and there by, data basing the information obtained and classifying their somatotypes, at providing useful data which can be utilized for the design of their dress forms and enhancing the fitness of their apparels. to this end, 330 pre-school children living in the capital area and aged fro m4 to 6 were sampled to be subject to the measurement of their somatotypes. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. As the pre-school children grow, the scales indicating their vertical growth including height could well be measured differently, but those scales indicating their lateral somatotypes which reflect their postural changes did not show among age groups. in other words, male kids were higher in the scales including height than female kids, while there were not differences between sexes in most scales indicating their lateral somatotypes. 2. The elements comprising the somatotypes were the size of body skeleton, the thickness of body mass, the posture and shape of body mass, the lateral under-neck shape, the extrusion of belly, the length between front and the back shoulder, the shape of lower belly, the shape of upper hip, the shape of lower hip and the slope of shoulders. Among them, the first two elements accounted for 64.8% of the total distribution, which means that these two elements explain the body-mass somatotypes of kid's most effectively. 3. The sample kids were divided into two types for classification of their somatotypes. As a result, it was found that the elements determining their somatotypes most influentially are, unlike adults' case the size of body skeleton rather than posture or lateral body shape. The type I showed less dimensions in most scales than type II, while their shoulder were les developed,. The type I was found distributed much in 4-year-old female kids. The type II showing more development in each element was found distributed much in 6-year-old male kids.

Lower body type of middle-aged(40 to 59) women was analyzed to develop body type-specific slacks. The analysis has four factors. Factor one is hip and leg type. Factor two is lower body height and length. Factor three is waist type, and factor four is hip length. By conducting a cluster analysis with scores of four factors, it came to have three types of classifications. Type one is a rectangular-shaped slim type. Women of this type have a high and lengthy lower body and middle-length hip. They have thin and small legs, their lower body is the longest, and the smallest with small curve among three types. Type two is the diamond-shaped obese type. They have a high and long lower body and legs are medium they are the most obese type. Type three is the large, trapezoidal-shaped, slightly overweight type. They have the longest and the biggest leg and hip. But the length and height of the lower body is the shortest among the three, and the hip is small. Legs are the thickest and shortest. The hip is big compared with the waist and is the longest. They have big hips and thick legs.
To understand tendency of body shapes of Chinese women who reside in Beijing and Shanghai for improving the match of exported clothes to China, this categorizes the bodies by extracting the elements of the objects and understanding body promotion. To categorize the subject by not size factor but form factor, data were compared and analyzed mainly with index based on measurement of the body. This selected specimen as 1381 of Chinese women from 19 to 50 selected in random sampling in Shanghai and Beijing from 23th, June to 7th August in 2004. 1. Chinese women is generally separated in 7.09 parts and upper body including waist shapes round. 2. The elements indicating the women's physical properties are obesity, the size of upper part, front shape, side shape, shoulder and back shape, perpendicular size and lower part length, body shape. 3. The Chinese are categorized by three factors. Normal shape which is not both fat and skinny, records the highest in the ranking.
This study conducted a survey to compare the size of ready-made clothes for different body shapes and body sizes, and to discover the differences in satisfaction with the size of ready-made clothes. The subjects were women in their 208 and 308 from Busan and Gyeongnam. The women were classified into groups: normal weight, overweight, and obese, using the Body Mass Index (BMI). The comparison of the body size showed a significant difference among the shapes; the average BMI in overweight women was 24.2 while that of obese women was 27.6. For the clothing size for each body shape, obese women most often wore size 77 and size 88, regardless of the sizes of upper and lower garments. The size consistency of upper and lower garments was the lowest in obese women. However, in most of the shapes, women tended to choose larger-sizes for lower garments than for upper ones. The more obese the subject, the less inclined they were to wear garments for their real body size. Satisfaction with the clothing size was significantly different between body shapes; the more obese, the lower the level of satisfaction with the size. As well, satisfaction with the fit of clothing at certain parts was shown to be low especially in the bust measurement, shoulder width, upper garment length, crotch length, and thigh circumference. When surveyed about the use of alterations for different body shapes, the results were that over 65% of subjects did not alter upper garments regardless of their body shape. Comparatively, 68% or above of all body shapes did do alterations to lower garments for example, the length of pants or skirts.
1. Objectives The body shape is an important standard for the classification of Sasang Constitutions. Using physical measurements and statistical analysis we can understand it's characteristic objectively. 2. Methods In this study, we have measured body circumferences and widths of 562 patients who were treated with Sasang Constitutional medicine. Their anthropometric data were transformed into the ratio based on Sasang Constitutional medicine. 3. Results (1) Taeyangin female's ratio of iliac width to chest width was most large, but Taeyangin male's was most small. (2) Soyangin's ratios of axillary width to waist width and chest width to iliac width were large. that is, their uppor body was large and lower body was small. (3) Taeumin's ratios of head and neck circumference to body circumference were small. the ratio of waist width to axillary width was most large. (4) Soeumin's ratio of head circumference to waist circumference was most large. and their uppor and lower body was larger than middle body. (5) Irrespective of Sasang Constitutions, male's ratios of axillary width to waist width and chest width to iliac width were larger than female's. 4. Conclusions From the above results, when we classify Sasang Constitutions using physical measurements we must consider gender differences and characteristics of Sasang Constitutional body shape.
Long bridges, such as suspension bridges and diagonal bridges, are complex phenomena that show different behaviors depending on the shape and rigidity of the cross sections, such as wind vibrations and liquid vibrations from earthquakes in liquid storage containers. This is called the lower skirt on the lower side of the bridge, and the installation of lower skirt is effective for release and vortex vibrations caused by rapid winds, and that increases the stability of the wind resistance of the bridge. Optimal shape and installation of the lower skirt is also essential to make maximum wind speed effect of the lower skirt. Therefore, this study proposes a numerical analysis method to control the vibration of a bridge by calculating the optimal installation angle of an optimal lower skirt according to the optimal control theory and this study evaluates the impact on the optimal control system by minimizing the dominance equation with an evaluation function, which is an indicator for evaluating the optimal control theory state.
