  • Pressure sores are painful and needless complications of critical illness. and manifest as a localized area of ischemic necrosis of tissue caused by pressure. This study analyzed the bed-backrest elevation system combined with hip and knee flexion for lower extremity lower pressure reduction. Eight healthy adults aged 21 to 26 years were recruited. The Body Pressure Measurement Mat of the TekScan system was used to measure the location and magnitude of the peak pressures on the body bed interface. The SPSS statistical package was used to analyze the significance of differences between the general bed-backrest elevation system and the bed-backrest elevation system combined with hip and knee flexion using the paired t-test. The result showed that the body-pressure of the lower extremity was more significantly reduced for the bed-backrest elevation system combined with hip and knee flexion ($26.6{\pm}4.3$ mmHg) than a general bed-backrest elevation system ($37.3{\pm}5.2$ mmHg) (p<.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of Housing Service Centers in terms of a new attempt made by NGOs and to then determine the implication of collaboration with lower level local governments in a housing welfare delivery system. The evaluation of the performance of the Housing Service Centers focused on three aspects: the performance outcomes for three years, comparative advantages to lower level local governments, and the vulnerability as an NGO. As a result of evaluating the outcome of Housing Service Centers and comparative advantages of Housing Service Centers to the local government, it is expected that a more effective housing welfare delivery system is able to be constructed when Housing Service Centers and lower level local governments collaborate. However, fiscal vulnerability of Housing Service Centers as NGO's will restrict the sustainability of the collaboration of both organizations. Therefore, as a conclusion, this study proposed that the governments should make use of Housing Service Centers as a public policy agency and projects should be based on a contract.

  • This study established a lower garment sizing system for abdominal obesity adult women aged 30-59 based on 277 females selected from the 7th Size Korean Anthropometric survey. The criteria for subjects in this study were over 25 kg/㎡ of the BMI, over 85 cm of waist, and over 0.8 waist hip ratio. The results are as follows. The lower body analysis of abdominal obesity adult women showed that average circumference items were larger than the ordinary size, and the average length items were smaller. The standard deviation was applied around the average values of waist circumference and hip circumference for the suggestion of a lower garment sizing system for abdominal obesity adult women. The interval between the designation was ±1.5 cm with a waist circumference of 100 cm and ±2.5 cm with an average hip circumference of 100 cm. We established 13 designation sections in consideration of the cover ratio and cover efficiency. The cover ratio in the 13 nominal sections was 71.5%. The segmental distribution rate presented in the results will also be useful for production planning in specific sizes that helped enable rational production.

  • Yamada's mountain ordering is to be said as an upward system, because the area and volume of the mountains become the larger as more than two lower order mountains constitute the higher order mountain. However, his mountain ordering shows some limitations to totally understand the mountain systems and to systematically manage the various kinds of mountainous informations. Because the independent third, fourth and so on, as well as the second lower order mountains are included in the higher order mountain. In order to solve the problem above, the downward system is suggested as the alternative of his upward system. The downward system means that the higher order mountain is classified into the second lower order mountains, and the second lower order mountain is classified into the third lower order mountains and finally the 2nd order mountain classified into the 1st order mountains. The method to classify a certain mountain systematically into all mountainous elements and the new nomenclature to be used for the classified elements are developed, using the downward system above. And the structure of database could be also suggested for the integrated and systematic management of mountain informations.

  • In order to efficiently promote a nation's National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) vision, it is important that a rational NSDI promotion system should be established. For such a NSDI promotion system, cooperation among the related organizations and the consistency of policies are crucial. In these regards, the main purpose of this research is to suggest a desirable model for the NSDI promotion system. Also, this study attempts to demonstrate problems and provide solutions in Korea NSDI promotion system. To accomplish this purpose, the literature reviews and content analysis were used. Following are the major findings of this research. First, a desirable NSDI promotion system should be consisted of the upper system (at the planning level) and the lower system (at the executive or implementing level). Second, the upper and lower system in NSDI promotion system should both be vertically connected and be horizontally connected. Third, the upper system should consist of the NSDI promotion committee, civil advisory committee, and sub-committee. Fourth, the lower system for the execution purposes of NSDI projects should consist of the NSDI top manager, in each central/local government, and professional support institute.

  • An analytical model for a human body is important to predict muscle and joint forces. Because it is difficult to estimate muscle or joint forces from a human body, the objective of this study is the development of a reliable analytical model for a human body to evaluate the lower extremity muscle and joint forces. The musculoskeletal system of the human lower extremity is modeled as a multibody system employing the Hill-type muscle model. Muscle forces are determined to minimize energy consumption, and we assume that motion is constrained in the sagittal plane. Muscle forces are calculated through an equilibrium analysis while rising from a seated position. The musculoskeletal model consists of four segments. Each segment is a rigid body and connected by frictionless revolute joints. Muscles of the lower extremity are simplified to seven muscles with those that are not related to the sagittal plane motion are ignored. Muscles that play a similar role are combined together. The results of the present study are compared with experimental results to validate the lower extremity model and the assumptions of the present study.

  • A new of the automotive High Intensity Discharge(HID) lamp ballast systems is proposed. Proposed scheme is consisted of the high frequency DC-DC converter and low frequency DC-AC inverter as same as conventional HID ballast system. But this system separates ignition voltage from dc link voltage, which results to used the lower voltage rating power devices for HID lamp ballast system compared with conventional system. As a result, proposed system has a lower cost and higher efficiency.
