Cooler driver electronics (CDE) for maintaining low temperature of the satellite payload IR sensor consists of a compressor that has a pulsation current load condition when it is operated. This pulsation current produces large voltage fluctuation, which affects both load and regulated bus stability. Thus, CDE power conditioning system consists of a primary bus, infrared power distribution unit for battery charging and protection, reverse current protection diode, and battery, which is used as a buffer. In this study, the operational mode analysis is performed by each part with equivalent impedance modeling verified through system level simulation. From this mode analysis, the safety margin for state of charge and open circuit voltage of the battery is determined for satisfying the minimum operational voltage of the CDE load.
The analysis of distribution line faults is essential to the proper protections of the power system. A high impedance fault test, which was carried in Korean electric power systems, it was found that a arcing phenomenon occurred during the high level portion of conductor voltage in each cycle. In this paper, we propose a new method for detection of high impedance faults, which uses the arcing fault current difference during high voltage and low voltage portion of conductor voltage waveform. To extract this difference, we diveded one cycle fault current into equal spanned four data windows according to the magnitude of voltage waveform and applied fast fourier transform(FFT) to each data window. The frequency spectrum of current wavefrom in each portion are used as the inputs of neural network and is trained to detect high impedance faults. The proposed method shows improved accuracy when applied to staged fault data and fault-like load.
An objective of this paper is to develop a partial discharge (PD) measurement device for monitoring gas insulated switches installed in power distribution system. A capacitive voltage probe was studied and designed to detect PD pulse without an electrical connection. The PD measurement device consists of the capacitive voltage probe attached outside of a bushing, a coupling network which attenuates AC voltage by 270 dB, and a low noise amplifier with the gain of 40 dB in ranges of 500 kHz${\sim}$20 MHz. The sensitivity of the prototype device calculated by a calibrator was 1.98 m V /pc. An application experiment was carried out in a 25.8 kV gas insulated switch and the peak pulse of 76.7 pC was detected. From the experimental results, it is expected that the PD measurement device can be applied to online monitoring system of gas insulated switches.
The additional matters appear to be considered in several aspects for building up power-quality measuring system of transmission system(high voltage system) compared to distribution system(middle or low voltage system). Like in distribution system, input signals are also received from PT and CT source of voltage and current respectively in transmission system and applied in accordance with a certain rate. In this case, very big error rate can be occurred according to the specification of the measuring system as the applying rate is bigger than in distribution system beyond comparison. In addition, when the abnormal signal occurred such as sag/swell, interruption, transient etc., power quality of other sites linked to the system also should be checked to find the accurate cause of the abnormal power-quality signals from the corresponding site. Accordingly, the accurate diagnosis on the condition of Power quality for the system depends on the way how the synchronization system is brought along for each site. This paper will suggest the solution for the most effective system building focused on how to solve the problem of the error rate and synchronization described in the above when building up the measuring system of power quality for transmission system.

Recent developments and trends in the electric power consumption clearly indicate an increasing use of DC in end-user equipment. According to the trends, new DC power distribution systems have been researched and developed although we presently enjoy a predominantly AC power distribution system. We can use various grounding schemes in DC distribution system as well as in AC distribution system to protect human body and equipments. However, we need to evaluate carefully which grounding scheme is appropriate for a specific system before applying those schemes. In this paper, we analyze the human safety and system effect according to various grounding schemes in Low Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system. Some components in LVDC distribution system are modeled and computer simulations are conducted by using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP).
The conventional grid connected PV(Photovoltaic) system has a unstable output pattern due to its dependence on the weather condition, although solar-cell array averagely has a regular output characteristics to have a peak output nearly at noon. Therefore assuming the high density grid connection in the future, this unstable output pattern can be one of the main reasons to generate power disturbance such as voltage variation, frequency variation and harmonic voltage generation in low voltage distribution line. However general grid connected solar-cell system do not have functions to cope with these disturbances. Therefore this study proposed a advanced type grid connected PV system with functions to suppress output power fluctuation due to solar-cell array output variation and showed the levelling effect of fluctuation due to instantaneous array output variation.
In a low-voltage distribution system, the molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) is a widely used device to protect loads by interrupting over-current; however the hot gas generated from the arc discharge in the interrupting process depletes the dielectric recovery strength between electrodes and leads to re-ignition after current-zero. Even though the circuit breaker is ordinarily tripped and successfully interrupts the over-current, the re-ignition causes the over-current to flow to the load again, which carries over the failure interruption. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the dielectric recovery process and the dielectric recovery voltage of the MCCB. To determine these characteristics, a measuring system comprised of the experimental circuit and source is implemented to apply controllable recovery voltage and over-current. By changing the controllable recovery voltage, in this work, re-ignition is driven repeatedly to obtain the dielectric recovery voltage V-t curve, which is used to analyze the dielectric recovery strength of the MCCB. A measuring system and an evaluation technique for the dielectric recovery strength of the MCCB are described. By using this system and method, the measurement to find out the dielectric recovery characteristics after current-zero for ready-made products is done and it is confirmed that which internal structure of the MCCB affects the dielectric recovery characteristics.
A small PEM fuel cell has two different stack configurations such as active and passive stacks. The active stack has a distintion of high power density although it makes system complex by using alr blower and related BOPs resulting in large system volume. On the contrary, passive stack has an advantage of compact system because it doesn't need air supplying devices although it reveals relatively low stack power density. In this study we fabricated two 10W PEMFC stacks with different stack configurations, active and passive stacks, and tested their performance and stability. The active stack consists of 13cells with an active area of $5cm^2$. The passive stack has 12cells with an active area of $16cm^2$. When we compared the stack performance of those stacks, the active stack showed higher power density compared to the passive stack, particularly at high voltage regions. However, at low voltage and high current regions, the passive stack performance was comparable to the active stack. The stack stability was largely dependent on the fuel humidity, particularly for active stack. At low humidity conditions, the active stack performance was decreased continuously and the cell voltage distribution was not uniform showing seriously low cell voltage at center cells mainly due to the cell drying. The passive stack showed relatively stable behavior at low humidity and the stack performance was largely dependent on the atmospheric conditions.
In this study low priced laser measurement system was made, so its reliability was investigated Intensity distribution of laser beam measured by devised system and FFT analyzer and their results were examined for proving reliability of devised system. Transmitted laser beam intensity on photodiode changed by eccentrically rotating of disk cam and motor speed. To get results, photodiode and devised amplifier were used for changing voltage. After that, response signal was calculated by signal analysis program. It was found that the vibration of disk cam could be measured by the intensity distribution of laser beam and the same tendency was obtained by FFT. Change of motor speed effected the distribution of laser beam, which was obtained by devised system. Also linear distribution was got by sensitive balancing switch on amplifier according to the transmission of laser beam on photodide.
