  • In this paper we implement MP3 encoder based on integer operations. To implement MP3 encoder presented in [1], floating-point operations are required. But we devise an MP3 encoding method which is based on integer operations. To verify the method presented in this paper, we implement MP3 encoder using ARM processor. In this paper we present the method to change floating point operations into integer operations, and the ARM assembly programming technique to implement fast MP3 encoder. The MP3 encoder implement using integer processor consumes less power than the encoder implemented using floating-point processor. So the encoder implemented in this paper is suitable lot portable applications which requires low power consumption.

  • A 16-bit adiabatic low-power Micro-processor core is designed. The processor consists of control block, multi-port register file and ALU. A simplified four-phase clock generator is designed to provide supply clocks for adiabatic processor. All the clock line charge on the capacitive interconnections is recovered to recycle the energy. Adiabatic circuits are designed based on ECRL(efficient charge recovery logic) and $0.35\mu\textrm$ CMOS technology is used. Simulation results show that the power consumption of the adiabatic Microprocessor core is reduced by a factor of 2.9~3.1 compared to that of conventional CMOS Microprocessor

  • This paper describes embedded processor architecture design which is applicable to multimedia in mobile platform The main description is based on basic processor architecture and consideration about energy efficiency when used in mobile platform To design processor data path architecture (pipeline, branch prediction, multiple issue superscalar, function unit number) which is optimal to multimedia application and cache hierarchy and its structure, we have nut the simulation with variant architecture using MPEG4 test bench as multimedia application. We analyzed energy efficiency of architecture to check if it is applicable to mobile platform and decide basic processor architecture based on analysis result. The suggested basic processor architecture not only can be applied to mobile platform but also can be applied to basic processor architecture of configurable processor which is designed through automatic design environment.

  • In the decoding process of interframe wavelet coding, the inverse wavelet transform requires huge computational complexity. However, the decoder may need to be used in various devices such as PDAs, notebooks, PCs or set-top Boxes. Therefore, the decoder's complexity should be adapted to the processor's computational power. A decoder designed in accordance with the processor's computational power would provide optimal services for such devices. So, it is natural that the complexity scalability and the low complexity codec are also listed in the requirements for scalable video coding. In this contribution, we develop a method of controlling and lowering the complexity of the spatial wavelet transform while sustaining almost the same coding efficiency as the conventional spatial wavelet transform. In addition, the proposed method may alleviate the ringing effect for certain video data.

  • Recent embedded processors employ set-associative L1 instruction cache to improve the performance. The energy consumption in the set-associative L1 instruction cache accounts for considerable portion in the embedded processor. When an instruction is required from the processor, all ways in the set-associative instruction cache are accessed in parallel. In this paper, we propose the technique to reduce the energy consumption in the set-associative L1 instruction cache effectively by accessing only one way. Gshare branch predictor is employed to predict the instruction flow and determine the way to fetch the instruction. When the branch prediction is untaken, next instruction in a sequential order can be fetched from the instruction cache by accessing only one way. According to our simulations with SPEC2006 benchmarks, the proposed technique requires negligible hardware overhead and shows 20% energy reduction on average in 4-way L1 instruction cache.

  • This paper proposes an efficient loop accelerator for a motion estimation specific instruction-set processor. ME algorithms in nature contain complex and multiple loop operations. To support efficient hardware (HW) loop operations, this paper introduces four loop instructions and their specific HW architecture. The simulation results show that the proposed loop accelerator can reduce about 29% average instruction cycles for ME early-termination schemes compared with typical implementation having a combination of compare and conditional jump instructions. The proposed loop accelerator of the motion estimation specific instruction-set processor can significantly reduce the number of program memory accesses and greatly save power consumption. Hence, it can be quite suitable for low power and flexible ME implementation.

  • This paper propose that is algorithm of power dissipation reduction in the high level synthesis design for DSP(Digital Signal Processor), as the portable terminal system recently demand high power dissipation. This paper obtain effect of power dissipation reduction and switching activity that increase correlation of operands as input data of function unit. The algorithm search loop or repeatedly data to the input operands of function unit. That can be reduce the power dissipation using the new low power high level synthesis algorithm. In this Paper, scheduling operation search same nodes from input DFG(Data Flow Graph) with correlation coefficient of first input node and among nodes. Function units consist a multiplier, an adder and a register. The power estimation method is added switching activity for each bits of nodes. The power estimation have good efficient using proposed algorithm. This paper result obtain more Power reduction of fifty percents after using a new low power algorithm in a function unit as multiplier.

  • Portable embedded systems have recently become smaller in size and offer a variety of junctions for users. These systems require high performance processors to handle the many functions and also a small battery to fit inside the system. However, due to its size, the battery life has become a major issue. It is important to have both efficient power design and management for each function, while optimizing processor voltage and clock frequency in order to extend the battery life of the system. In this paper, we calculated the efficiency of power in optimizing power rail. This system has two microprocessors. One is used to play music and movie files while the other is for DMB. In order to reduce power consumption, the DMB microprocessor is turned of while music or videos are played. Lastly, DVFS is applied to the processor in the system to reduce power consumption. Experimental results of the implemented system have resulted in reduced power consumption.

  • This paper presents an ASIP(Application Specific Instruction Set Processor) for implementation of H.264/AVC, called VSIP(Video Specific Instruction-set Processor). The proposed VSIP has novel instructions and optimized hardware architectures for specific applications, such as intra prediction, in-loop deblocking filter, integer transform, etc. Moreover, VSIP has hardware accelerators for computation intensive parts in video signal processing, such as inter prediction and entropy coding. The VSIP has much smaller area and can dramatically reduce the number of memory access compared with commercial DSP chips, which result in low power consumption. The proposed VSIP can efficiently perform in real-time video processing and it can support various profiles and standards.
