This study was to identify variables which were related with middle aged women's identification of child mother-role burden and psychological well-being and to investigate the relationships of mother-role burden and psychological well-being in mid-life. The research data were collected from 578 who were 40-59 year old women in Seoul. The major findings were as follow; (1) the level of middle age women's identification of child was very high and the level of mother-role burden was moderate. the level of psychological well-being was slightly high. (2) Mid-life women's psychological well-being was related to education level income and job. (3) Identification of child was related to educational level having job and income. And mother-role burden was influenced only by education level. (4) Middle aged women's identification of child was positively related mother-role burden. Mother-role burden was negatively related to psychological well-being in mid-life. These findings represented middle aged mother in our society had considerable burden of child but their psychological well-being was not low. Possibly it is due to the fact mothers regard their burden of child as acceptable duty.
This study examined the relationship between parental efficacy, marriage satisfaction, social support, neighborhood context, and parental involvement in preschool children's education in low income families. Total 460 low income parents' data about parental efficacy, marriage satisfaction, social support, neighborhood context, and parental involvement are collected from the data of index studies for Korean child and adolescent's development in 2009. Parental efficacy, marriage satisfaction, perceived social support and perceived neighborhood context correlated positively with parental involvement. Regression analysis detected different patterns of association between these variables and the three dimensions of parent involvement. Perceived neighborhood context was associated with child care involvement, while parental efficacy was the most influential factor related to child leisure involvement. Marriage satisfaction was the strongest factor influencing involvement in children's educational activity. These results support the validity of a multi-dimensional, ecological conceptualization of parent involvement in low income families.
As a society is becoming more and more complicated people living in modern times are experiencing more stresses for various reasons. Some past research results proved the role of clothing in reducing the stresses. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the preference of the mini-style which is recently most fashionable styles is related to the psychological factors such as stress and body satisfaction. Measure Instrument were Nolmes and Masuda(1973)'s SRRS(Social Readjustment Rating Scal) Secord and Jourard(1953)' Body Cathexis Scale and mini-style preference scale by author Survey questionnaires were distributed to two hundred seventy adult women living in Seoul area during may 25 1992. through June 8. 1992. The age range of the subjects was from 30 to 49 The final number of subjects in-cluded in the statistical analysis was 244. The result and conclusions are as follows: 1. Significant difference was existed in mini-style preference between high and low body satisfaction groups. Mini-style was pre-ferred by high body satisfaction group than low body satisfaction group. 2, Significant difference was existed in mini-style preference between high and low stress groups. Mini-style was preferred by low stress group than high stress group. 3. Regarding demographic characteristics unmarried 2 year college graduates with low family income in their early 30's pref. mini-style. 4. There was a marginal interaction effect of demographic characteristics on the relation-ship between mini-style preference and body satisfaction. The higher preference and body satisfaction. The higher preference for mini-style was found for the higher body satis-faction group mostly with the age range of 35 to 39 married 4 year college graduates as drop-puts and mid less income group. 5. There was a marginal interaction effect of demographic variables on the relatonship be-tween mini style preference and stress level The higher preference for mini-style was re-lated to the low stress level group mostly with age group of 35 to 44 high school graduates or lower and highest income group regardless of their marital status. In sum mini-style seems to be preferred by women who feel relatively less stress and are more satisfied with their bodies thus psycho-logically stable.
This study examined the factors affecting social welfare service utilization of general group and low-income group. The following influencing variables were selected based on the model developed by Anderson and Newman(1973): predisposing factors, enabling factors, need factors. The result shows that in both group the possibility of service utilization is high in case of having a spouse, more family members, feeling one's health ill, no chronic disease. And service use level is high in case of having no spouse, lower income in general group, higher income in low-income group, more family members, feeling one's health ill, having a chronic disease. In addition, the higher service use level is associated in low-income group with men rather than women, younger age, low education, the unemployed rather than the employed, urban residents, low life satisfaction. These findings provide implications and suggestions that each income group has various characteristics and needs, so it is necessary to provide comprehensive and appropriate services through the investigation for potential service recipients' needs.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in the health status of the divorced population according to their income status and to explain the social mechanisms. By analyzing 287 midlife men and women divorced within the last 5 years, we found a strong inverse relationship between their health and income status: the low-income divorced group was more liable to depression and poor physical health. Lack of social connections and having less hope for remarriage after getting a divorce were main factors explaining health vulnerability of the low income group among divorced. Further details have been discussed.

The purpose of this study is to find out midaged women's crisis and ways to overcome it. Another purpose is to improve their qualities of life and to provide basic data to develop their potentials. The results are as follows: First, it shows that socio-demographic characteristics have a significant influence on midaged women's crisis. Those variables include religion, jobs, family-life cycle, income, marriage duration, age, and supporting parents. Second, the variables significantly influencing the coping behavior with the crisis include age, income, religion, marriage patterns, region, marriage duration, family-life cycle, and supporting parents. Third, as a result of this research, their negative expression of action or emotion was higher as they were getting old. The general tendency was that an emotional crisis level was low when rational coping behaviors were high. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of parental resources and parenting stress on parenting efficacy in low-income families Furthermore, in order to verify whether parental resources function as a resilience factor, a structural model was established to assess the suitability and influence of the variables. A total of 603 parents of children and adolescents between the ages of 9-18 were selected from the data from Children and Adolescents Comprehensive Status Research (2009) by the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs. For the analyses, SPSS WIN 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 were utilized. The major results were as follows: First, the suitability of the model was confirmed with variables presenting a satisfying fit. Second, parental resources had a negative effect on parenting stress and a positive effect on parenting efficacy. Third, parenting stress had a negative effect on parenting efficacy. Finally, a test of the structural equation model supports the hypothesis that parental resources have a significant direct effect as well as an indirect effect through parenting stress on parenting efficacy. The implications for further studies and practice were discussed.
Abdominal obesity (AO) is a strong risk factor for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, which has shown a remarkable increase in Korea. This study aimed to identify prevalence of AO and related risk factors in Korean adults. A total of 5,132 men and women aged 20-85 years old from the 2001 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were included in the analyses. AO was defined as waist circumference >=90 cm in men and >=85 cm in women as proposed by Korean Society of Obesity. Multiple logistic regression was carried out to identify risk factors for AO. Three models were specified: (i) demographic and socioeconomic factors (model 1: age, education, poverty income ratio, employment), (ii) lifestyle factors and covariates (model 2: physical activity, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, dietary quality, type 2 diabetes, co-morbidity) and (iii) demographic, socioeconomic and lifestyle factors (model 3). The prevalence of AO was 24.1 % in men, 23.5% in women. High poverty income ratio in men and low education attainment in women were risk factors for AO in model. 1. There was a significant association of AO with alcohol consumption, physical inactivity and dietary quality in men, alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking in women. These factors except alcohol consumption in men became insignificant in model 3. This findings underscore the importance of developing AO prevention programs in Korea that target the at risk groups identified in this study. A program focusing on low income men or less educated women would be more efficient.
