Effects of Ixeris dentata ext. on Lowering Lipid and Anti-oxidation (씀바귀의 지질강하 및 항산화효과)

  • To investigate effects of Ixeris dentata EtOH ext. on lowering lipid levels and anti-oxidation activity, hyperlipidemic rats were treated with Ixeris dentata EtOH ext. and lipid levels and anti-oxdation activity were measured. The Ixeris dentata EtOH ext. groups showed low concentration of plasma FFA, plasma triglyceride, plasma total cholesterol, and plasma LDL-cholesterol compared to control group. However, concentration of plasma HDLcholesterol was not significantly different among all the treatment groups. The Ixeris dentata EtOH ext. groups showed lower level of liver total cholesterol, liver triglyceride, plasma TBARS, and liver TBARS than those of control group. The Ixeris dentata EtOH ext. groups also showed higher level of GSH-Px activity, SOD activity, and CAT activity than those of control group. Moreover, the Ext. showed lower level of TNF-${\alpha}$, Apo-B, Apo-E, and leptin expression than those of control group. The results in this study shows that the Ixeris dentata EtOH ext. have positive effect in lowering lipid level, and anti-oxidative activity.

The Effects of Salt and NaNO2 on Fatty Acid Composition, Free Amino Acids, Microbial Counts and Sensory Characteristics of Dry-cured Ham Processed under Korean Environment (소금과 아질산염 처리수준이 자연숙성 건염햄의 지방산 조성, 유리아미노산, 미생물수 및 관능적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The study analyzed the effects of salt concentration [high salt (HS) and low salt (LS)] and sodium nitrite ($NaNO_2$), which are typically utilized in Korean processing facilities, on fatty acid composition, free amino acids, microbial counts and sensory characteristics of processed dry-cured ham. Four different treatments were considered: three hams (11.30 kg) salted with 92 g/kg salt (w/w) (HS), three hams (10.65 kg) treated with HS and 100 ppm $NaNO_2$ (HS+$NaNO_2$), three hams (11.42 kg) salted with 62 g/kg salt (w/w) (LS), and three hams (10.62 kg) treated with LS and 100 ppm $NaNO_2$ (LS+$NaNO_2$). Fatty acid composition analysis revealed significantly (p<0.05) higher saturated fatty acid and lower (p<0.05) unsaturated fatty acid in the HS+$NaNO_2$ group compared with the other groups. Glutamate, alanine and lysine free amino acids were higher than the other free amino acids. The processing conditions did not significantly affect the free amino acids of biceps femoris muscles, except for the proline content (p>0.05). In sensory evaluation, the fermentation aroma of the LS group was higher than that of the HS group. The aerobic counts consistently ranged from from $2.3{\times}10^2$ to $1.11{\times}10^4$ CFU/g. Escherichia coli including strain O157:H7, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella spp. were not detected.

Electrical Property of the Li2O-2SiO2 Glass Sintered by Spark Plasma Sintering (Spark Plasma Sintering으로 제조한 Li2O-2SiO2 유리 소결체의 전기적 특성)

  • A $Li_2O-2SiO_2$ ($LS_2$) glass was investigated as a lithium-ion conducting oxide glass, which is applicable to a fast ionic conductor even at low temperature due to its high mechanical strength and chemical stability. The $Li_2O-2SiO_2$ glass is likely to be broken into small pieces when quenched; thus, it is difficult to fabricate a specifically sized sample. The production of properly sized glass samples is necessary for device applications. In this study, we applied spark plasma sintering (SPS) to fabricate $LS_2$ glass samples which have a particular size as well as high transparency. The sintered samples, $15mm\phi{\times}2mmT$ in size, ($LS_2$-s) were produced by SPS between $480^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$ at 45MPa for 3~5mim, after which the thermal and dielectric properties of the $LS_2$-s samples were compared with those of quenched glass ($LS_2$-q) samples. Thermal behavior, crystalline structure, and electrical conductivity of both samples were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and an impedance/gain-phase analyzer, respectively. The results showed that the $LS_2$-s had an amorphous structure, like the $LS_2$-q sample, and that both samples took on the lithium disilicate structure after the heat treatment at $800^{\circ}C$. We observed similar dielectric peaks in both of the samples between room temperature and $700^{\circ}C$. The DC activation energies of the $LS_2$-q and $LS_2$-s samples were $0.48{\pm}0.05eV$ and $0.66{\pm}0.04eV$, while the AC activation energies were $0.48{\pm}0.05eV$ and $0.68{\pm}0.04eV$, respectively.

Development of Combined Methods for Effective Extraction of Sea Mustard (미역의 효과적 추출을 위한 종합적 추출 방법의 개발)

  • In order to develop an effective extraction method of sea mustard, five different methods of boiling in 0.5% $Na_{2}EDTA(A)$, in 0.1 N HCI(B), in 0.5% $Na_{2}EDTA$ and 0.1 N HCI(C) and hydrolysis with two different polysaccharides-hydrolyzing enzymes of Celluclast(method D) and Ultrazyme(method E) prior to boiling in 0.5% $Na_{2}EDTA$ and 0.1 N HCI were studied. The highest yields of solids(63.14%) and protein(26.39%) from the extract were obtained by method D. The concentration of amino-N was significantly improved by method C(870 ppm) followed by method D(770 ppm), B(570 ppm) and A(480 ppm) compared to the control(270 ppm). Total free amino acids, mainly alanine, glutamic, and aspartic acids, were greatly increased by methods of A(8.88 mg%), D(4.14 mg%) and E(4.18 mg%) which were $2.5{\sim}5.1$ times higher than those in control(1.71 mg%). The sensory characteristics showed that extract D was significantly low in intensity of fishy odor and high in seaweed taste. Therefore, method D was suggested as the effective extraction method.

Internal Wood Temperature Manipulation Using Quadratic Residue Diffusor Microwaves (Quadratic Residue Diffusor Microwave를 이용한 목재의 내부 온도변화에 관한 연구)

  • In contrast to conventional microwaves, QRD (Quadratic Residue Diffusor) microwaves are a new energy-efficient technology that enhances the effect of sterilization based on changing the wavelength phase difference. Therefore, this study investigated the sterilization of wood using environmentally friendly and low energy consuming QRD microwaves. The results are as follows: for the QRD microwaves used in this study, the efficiency E = 5.75e0.32 S ($R^2$=0.908). Although the early water content was not constant, the average water content was 30.3% and after one week of natural drying, the water content was 22.6%, representing an average water content reduction of about 8%. When increasing the microwave level from 3 kW ~ 9 kW, the time taken for the temperature to increase was reduced. After the QRD microwave treatment, the wood samples showed no change in their flexural rigidity, compressive strength, or cleavage. The QRD microwave levels used in the experiments were 3, 5, 7, and 9 kW, where 9 kW was found to be the most efficient. Thus, for the purpose of eliminating nematodes and termites inside wood, a higher QRD microwave level was found to be more effective and energy efficient.

Internet Shopping in Japan: Shopping motivation, Perceived Risks, and Innovativeness (일본의 인터넷 쇼핑 실태에 관한 연구: 쇼핑동기, 지각위험, 혁신성을 중심으로)

  • The market size of e-Commerce in Japan was 15 trillion Yen in 2006, and B2C Internet shopping sales were over 6.57 trillion in 2009. Lakuten is a representative Internet shopping company whose market share is 45%. Lakuten has over 70,000 online stores and Japanese shoppers trust them based on the fair competition rule and pre-control system on e-commerce. Japanese consumers accept new technology rapidly and highly use Internet and mobile channel. This research analyse online shopping behaviors of Japan, a big e-commerce market. Internet shopping intention, satisfaction, and recommendation by Internet shopping motivations, perceived risks, shopping innovativeness were analyzed. A questionnaire survey of 464 Japanese consumer was performed and ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability test have done by SPSS 12.0. As the results, Internet shopping intentions were higher in groups of olders, higher innovativeness. House wives' satisfaction of Internet shopping is highest. High innovativeness group showed higher internet shopping motivation of economics, connivence, hedonic, and social. Student, women, and low income group perceives high risks to Internet shopping. Implications and further researches were suggested based on the results.

The Study of Ag Thin Film of Suitable Anode for T-OLED: Focused on Nanotribology Methode (UV 처리에 의한 T-OLED용 산화전극에 적합한 Ag 박막연구: Nano-Mechanics 특성 분석을 중심으로)

  • The work function of Ag (silver) is too low (~4.3 eV) to be used as an electrode of T-OLED (Top Emission Organic Light Emitting Diode). To solve this weakness, researches used plasma-, UV-, or thermal treatment on Ag films in order to increase the work function (~5.0 eV). So, most of studies have focused only on the work function of various treated Ag films, but studies focusing on nanomechanical properties were very important to investigate the efficiency and life time of T-OLED etc. In this paper, we focused on the mechanical properties of the Ag and $AgO_x$ film. The Ag was deposited on a glass substrate with the thickness of 150 nm by using rf-magnetron sputter with the power was fixed at 100 W and working pressure was 3 mTorr. The deposited Ag film was UV treated by UV lamp for several minutes (0~9 min). We measured the sheet resistance and mechanical property of the deposited film. From the experimental result, there were some differences of the sheet resistance and surface hardness of Ag thin film between short time (0~3 min) and long time UV treatment. These result presumed that the induced stress was taken place by the surface oxidation after UV treatment.

Effect of water extract and distillate from the mixture of black goat meat and medicinal herb on osteoblast proliferation and osteoclast formation (흑염소와 약용식물 복합 증탕추출액 및 증류액이 조골세포 증식과 파골세포 형성에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The effects of water extract and distillate from the mixture of black goat meat and medicinal herb on MG-63 osteoblast proliferation and mouse bone marrow derived osteoclast formation were investigated. Methods: Proximate composition, volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), mineral content, free amino acid composition and free fatty acid composition in black goat meat were determined. Water extract and distillate were prepared with three groups; goat meat only (BG-E, BG-D), six herbs added group (BG-E6, BG-D6), and eight herbs added group (BG-E8, BG-D8). Osteoblast proliferation, mineralization and calcium uptake activity of MG-63 cells were measured and tartrate resistant acid phosphatase activity of osteoclasts was analyzed. Results: Black goat meat had remarkably low fat and high level of calcium. Glutamic acid was the most abundant amino acid. Herbs added extract groups (BG-E6 and BG-E8) showed increased MG-63 cell proliferation in a concentration dependent manner, while all the distillates did not show the effect. All extracts and distillates showed significantly increased osteoblast mineralization depending on the concentration. In particular, herb added extract, BG-E6, increased 170.3% of control and the distillate of BG-D and BG-D6 increased up to 168.5% and 159.8%, respectively. Calcium uptake activities of all water extracts showed remarkable increase of BG-E6 and BG-E8 up to 615.5% and 628.1% of control, respectively. Ditillates had no effect except BG-D6. All water extracts significantly reduced the activity of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) in osteoclasts derived from mouse bone marrow. Conclusion: Combination of black goat meat and medicinal herb increased the MG-63 cell proliferation and effectively inhibited osteoclast differentiation in both water extracts and distillate of them, which implies that they could be used as potent functional food materials for bone health.

The Influence of Nutrients Addition on Phytoplankton Communities Between Spring and Summer Season in Gwangyang Bay, Korea (광양만에서 춘계와 하계 영양염류 첨가가 식물플랑크톤군집의 성장에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to estimate the effect of nutrients addition for phytoplankton growth and community compositons in spring and summer season, we investigated the abiotic and biotic factors of surface and bottom waters at 20 stations of inner and offshore areas in Gwangyang Bay, Korea. Nutrient additional experiments were also conducted to identify any additional nutrient effects on phytoplankton assemblage using the surface water for the assay. Bacillariophyceae occupied more than 90% of total phytoplankton assembleges. Of these, diatom Eucampia zodiacus and Skeletonema costatum-like species was mainly dominated in spring and summer, respectively. Here, we can offer the season why the two diatom population densities were maintained at high levels in both seasons. First, light transparency of spring season in the euphotic zone was greatly improved in the bay. This improvement is one of important factor as tigger of increase in E. zodiacus population. Second, low salinity and high nutrient sources supplied by Seomjin River discharge are a main cue for strong bottom-up effects on S. costatum-like species during the summer rainy season. Based on the algal bio-assays, although maximum growth rate of phytoplankton communities at inner bay (St.8) were similar to those of outer bay (St.20), half-saturation constant ($K_s$) for phosphate at outer bay was slightly lower than those of inner bay. This implied that adapted cells in low nutrient condition of outer bay may have enough grown even the low phosphate and they also have a competitive advantage against other algal species under low nutrient condition. In particular, efficiency of N (+) addition in summer season was higher compared to control and P added experiments. In the bay, silicon was not a major limiting factor for phytoplankton growth, whereas nitrogen (N) was considered as a limiting factor during spring and summer. Therefore, a sufficient silicate supply form water mixing Si recycled from diatom decomposition and river water is favorable form maintaining diatom ecosystems in Gwangyang Bay.

Studies on the Atomic and Electronic Structures of Cu Adsorbed $Si(100)-2\times1$ Surface (Cu가 흡착된 $Si(100)-2\times1$ 표면의 원자구조 및 전자구조 연구)

  • We have investigated the atomic and electronic structures of Cu-adsorbed Si(100)-2$\times$1 surface, by using LEED and UPS. In the UPS spectra, the weak structures (peaks) related to Cu silicide appeared for low coverages less than 1.3 ML at room temperature, and the intensity of Cu 3d band rapidly increased with respect to Cu coverages. The Cu silicide peaks become clear after Cu deposition at room temperature followed by high temperature annealing ($\geq 300^{\circ}C$) or for Cu deposited surface at the substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, these structures disappeared by annealing at $750^{\circ}C$. At very low coverage, a surface state near Fermi level $(E_F)$ was observed at $400^{\circ}C$. According to the rigid band model, it seems to be originated from the surface empty state occupied partially with Cu 4s electron. In the LEED patterns, no Cu-induced superstructure observed for RT-depositions and post annealing, while there were several surface structures which depend on substrate temperatures and coverages. we observed the clean surface 2$\times$1+2$\times$2 phase for 1.5 ML at $400^{\circ}C$, the clean surface 2$\times$1+5$\times$1 phase for 0.5 ML at $450^{\circ}C$ and the clean surface 2$\times$1+2$\times$2+5$\times$2+5$\times$5+10$\times$2 mixed phases for 3 ML at $450^{\circ}C$.
