The optimization design problem of nuclear reactor radiation shield is a typical multi-objective optimization problem with almost 10 sub-objectives and the sub-objectives are always demanded to be under tolerable limits. In this paper, a design method combining multi-objective optimization algorithms with paralleling discrete ordinate transportation code is developed and applied to shield design of the Savannah nuclear reactor. Three approaches are studied for light-weighted and compact design of radiation shield. Comparing with directly optimization with 10 objectives and the single-objective optimization, the approach by setting sub-objectives representing weight and volume as optimization objectives while treating other sub-objectives as constraints has the best performance, which is more suitable to reactor shield design.

In the Internet of Thing (IoT) framework, massive machine-type communications (MMTC) have required large spectral efficiency. For this, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has emerged as an efficient solution. Recently, a non-successive interference cancellation (SIC) NOMA scheme has been implemented without loss. This lossless NOMA without SIC is achieved via correlated superposition coding (SC), in contrast to conventional independent SC. However, conventional minimum high-correlated SC for only 2-user NOMA schemes was investigated in the lossless 2-user non-SIC NOMA implementation. Thus, this paper investigates a 3-user low-correlated SC scheme, especially for an inflated achievable sum rate, with a design of 3-user low-correlated SC. First, we design the 3-user low-correlated SC scheme by taking the minimum sum rate between 3-user SIC NOMA and 3-user non-SIC NOMA, both with correlated SC. Then, simulations demonstrate that the low correlation in the direction of the first user's power allocation inflates the sum rate in the same direction, compared to that of conventional minimum high-correlated SC NOMA, and such inflation due to low correlation is also observed similarly, in the direction of the second user's power allocation. Moreover, we also show that the two low correlations of the first and second users inflates doubly in the both directions of the first and second users' power allocations. As a result, the proposed 3-user low-correlated SC could be considered as a promising scheme, with the inflated sum rate in the future fifth-generation (5G) NOMA networks.
Telecom supplies need to conform to low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and high Power Factor (PF) as per IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE 519-1992 standards. These high rating power supplies use a three phase utility in which low THD and high PF are realized via various passive and active wave shaping schemes. In this paper, a new design for three phase telecom power supplies is presented with circuit parameter values optimized for high performance in terms of a low THD, high PF, low ripple and high line and load regulation using a suitable combination of various strategies. The performance of the power supply is validated by extensive simulations.
A low-power design technique for lithium-ion Battery-Protection Integrated Circuit (BPIC) for multi cell configuration is proposed. The hardware sharing scheme with more precisely divided operating states in the detection range could reduce the power consumption significantly, especially during the normal state. The usefulness of the proposed scheme was confirmed through HSPICE simulations.

This paper presents a design of low power CMOS LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) for 2.4 GHz ZigBee applications. The proposed circuit has been designed by using TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and current-reused two-stage cascade topology. LNA design procedures and the simulation results using ADS(Advanced Design System) are presented in this paper. Simulation results shows that the LNA has a extremely low power dissipation of 1.38mW with a $V_{DD}$ of 1.0V. The LNA also has a maximum gain of 13.38dB, input return loss of -20.37dB, output return loss of -22.48dB and noise figure of 1.13dB.
Bio energy development by using Low Calorific Gas Turbine(LCGT) has been developed for New & Renewable energy source for next generation power system, low fuel and operating cost method by using the renewable energy source in landfill gas (LFG), Food Waste, water waste and Livestock biogas. Low calorific fuel purification by pretreatment system and carbon dioxide fixation by green house system are very important design target for evaluate optimum applications for bio energy. Main problems and accidents of Low Calorific Gas Turbine system was derived from bio fuel condition such as hydro sulfide concentration, siloxane level, moisture concentration and so on. Even if the quality of the bio fuel is not better than natural gas, LCGT system has the various fuel range and environmental friendly power system. The mechanical characterisitics of LCGT system is a high total efficiency (>70%), wide range of output power (30kW - 30MW class) and very clean emmission from power system (low NOx). Also, we can use co-generation system. A green house designed for four different carbon dioxide concentration from ambient air to 2000 ppm by utilizing the exhaust gas and hot water from LCGT system. We look forward to contribute the policy for Renewable Portfolio Standards(RPS) by using LCGT power system.
Among Internet of things (IoT) applications, the most demanding requirements for the widespread realization of many IoT visions are security and low power. In terms of security, IoT applications include tasks that are rarely addressed before such as secure computation, trusted sensing, and communication, privacy, and so on. These tasks ask for new and better techniques for the protection of data, software, and hardware. An integral part of hardware cryptographic primitives are secret keys and unique IDs. Physical Unclonable Functions(PUF) are a unique class of circuits that leverage the inherent variations in manufacturing process to create unique, unclonable IDs and secret keys. In this paper, we propose a low power Arbiter PUF circuit with low error rate and high reliability compared with conventional arbiter PUFs. The proposed PUF utilizes a power gating structure to save the power consumption in sleep mode, and uses a razor flip-flop to increase reliability. PUF has been designed and implemented using a FPGA and a ASIC chip (a 0.35 um technology). Experimental results show that our proposed PUF solves the metastability problem and reduce the power consumption of PUF compared to the conventional Arbiter PUF. It is expected that the proposed PUF can be used in systems required low power consumption and high reliability such as low power encryption processors and low power biomedical systems.
Among many other alternative energy resources, small scale hydropower has been brought into attention as a reliable source of energy today, which had been relatively neglected since 1960s. Present low head of Francis turbines and small scale hydroturbines, however, have limitations in the minimum required head and flow rate for efficient operation. This study attempts to develope the Francis turbine which is expected to run efficiently even in very low head and small flow rate, so that the limitations on the conventional small scale hydropower could alleviated and competition with other alternative energy sources in the changable design conditions could attained. The Francis turbine of a new concept was designed based on changable design conditions, hydrodynamics and theory of power transmission. The result of the study shows that two stages runner is more efficient, cheaper in construction, faster responding, and easier maintaining than single stage runner of Francis turbine

This study proposes a design method of high-power-density and high-efficiency low-voltage DC-DC converters using SiC MOSFET and the optimized planar transformer design procedure based on the figure-of-merit. The secondary rectifying circuit of the phase-shifted full-bridge converter is compared to achieve high power density and high efficiency, and the phase-shifted full bridge converter with a current-doubler rectifier is selected. The planar transformer is designed by the proposed optimized design procedure and verified by FEA simulation. To validate the proposed design method, experimental results from a 3 kW prototype are provided. The prototype achieved 95.28% maximum efficiency and a power density of 2.98 kW/L.
