  • In this study, the effect of calcination temperature on the production of RuTi catalyst in NH3-SCO (selective catalytic oxidation) was investigated. The RuTi catalyst was prepared using the wet impregnation method, and calcined at 400~600 ℃ for 4 h in air condition. The catalysts were named RuTi x00 where x00 means the calcination temperature. According to XRD (X-Ray diffraction), TEM (transmission electron microscope), H2-TPR (H2-temperature programmed reduction) analyses, RuTi x00 catalysts displayed that the dispersion of active metal decreased via increasing the calcination temperature. The catalysts with low dispersion showed a decrease in the surface adsorption oxygen species (Oβ) and NH3 adsorption amount via XPS, and NH3-TPD analyses. Therefore, the RuTi 400 catalyst was well dispersed in the active metal on TiO2 surface, and also, the NH3 removal efficiency was excellent.

  • The abilities and fading behaviors of 5 different inoculants were evaluated by the thermal analyses of the melts which were held at constant temperature after addition in induction furnace. The silicon content was preserved at the high holding temperature of 1,450${\sim}$1,500$^{\circ}C$, which reduced by oxidation at the low one. The inoculation temperature should be higher to obtain better and reproducible result. The inoculation performance of 1%Ba-Fe-Si was the best on the bases of effect and fading behavior.

  • The application of Carbon and graphite based materials in unprotected environment is limited to a temperature of $450^{\circ}C$ or so because of their susceptibility to oxidation at this temperature and higher. To over come these obstacles a low cost chemical vapour reaction process (CVR) was developed to give crystalline and high purity SiC coating on graphite and isotropic C/C composite. CVR is most effective carbothermal reduction method for conversation of a few micron of carbon layer to SiC. In the CVR method, a sic conversation layer is formed by reaction between carbon and gaseous reagent silicon monoxide at high temperature. Characterization of SiC coating was carried out using SEM. The other properties studied were hardness density and conversion efficiency.

  • It is a challenging task to apply large detailed chemical mechanisms of fuel oxidation in simulation of complex combustion phenomena. There exist a few systematic methodologies to reduce detailed chemical mechanisms to smaller sizes involving less computational load. This research work concerns generation of a skeletal chemical mechanism by a directed relation graph with specified accuracy requirement. Two sequential stages for mechanism reduction are followed in a perfectly stirred reactor(PSR) for high temperature chemistry and to consider the autoignition delay time for low and high temperature chemistry. Reduction was performed for the detailed chemical mechanism of n-heptane consisting of 561 species and 2539 elementary reaction steps. Validation results show acceptable agreement for the autoignition delay time and the PSR calculation in wide parametric ranges of pressure, temperature and equivalence ratio.

  • A study has been carried out on the characteristics of dielectric consent and the dissipation factor of Eicosamethyl Eneasiloxane as a function of frequency($30{\sim}10^5$[Hz]) and temperature(-70[$^{\circ}C$] to 65[$^{\circ}C$]). The result shows that a well-defined maxima of the absorption curves characterized by a dipole loss mechanism at a low temperature range. For temperatures in the vicinity of room temperature and higher, the loss in the range of power frequencies are predominantly of ionic nature. The increase of ionic conduction is attributed to the presence of ionizable oxidation products and their increased dissocation feature. The effect of viscosity upon the dipole loss intensity appeared to be considerably less pronounced than that upon ionic conduction loss.

  • In order to reduce or avoid oxidation problem at operation the interconnects in SOFCs have so far mostly been made of ceramic material. It has high chemical stability both under cathode and anode condition, relatively thermal expansion coefficient that matchs that of electrolyte material YSZ. But this material shown rather weak in the low oxygen atmosphere and thermal shock, and it has lower mechanical strength than alloys. To avoid these problems one may consider to use metals or alloys as materials for interconnects. Metallic interconnects are advantageous because of their high thermal and electronic conductivities. But it has some problems, Those are high thermal expansion and oxidation at high temperature in air. To solve these problems in the interconnection material in this study, $LaCrO_3$-dispersed Cr alloys for metallic interconnector of SOFC have been investigated as a fuction of $LaCrO_3$ content in the range of 5 to 25 vol.%. The Cr alloy were prepared by mixing Cr and $LaCrO_3$ powders in high-energy ball mill for 48h and by sintering under Ar atmosphere with 5vol.% $H_2$ for 10h at $1500^{\circ}C$. The alloys had a relative density of 95% and above. The Cr alloys in composed of two kind of small $LaCrO_3$ and large Cr particles. As the $LaCrO_3$ content increased, the Cr particle size decreased but the $LaCrO_3$ particle size remained contant. Also the oxidation tests show that the $LaCrO_3$-dispersed Cr is very resistant to oxidation in air. These results means that $LaCrO_3$-dispersed Cr is a useful material for metallic interconnect of planar SOFC.

  • This paper proposes a 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick oxide air-bridge structure which can be used as a substrate for RF circuits. The structure was fabricated by anodic reaction, complex oxidation and rnicrornachining technology using TMAH etching. High quality films were obtained by combining low temperature thermal oxidation (50$0^{\circ}C$, 1 hr at $H_2O$/O$_2$) and rapid thermal oxidation (RTO) process (105$0^{\circ}C$, 2 min). This structure is mechanically stable because of thick oxide layer up to 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and is expected to solve the problem of high dielectric loss of silicon substrate in RF region. The properties of the transmission line formed on the oxidized porous silicon (OPS) air-bridge were investigated and compared with those of the transmission line formed on the OPS layers. The insertion loss of coplanar waveguide (CPW) on OPS air-bridge was (about 1 dB) lower than that of CPW on OPS layers. Also, the return loss of CPW on OPS air-bridge was less than about - 20 dB at measured frequency region for 2.2 mm. Therefore, this technology is very promising for extending the use of CMOS circuitry to higher RF frequencies.

  • Gold catalysts supported on metal-oxides were prepared by co-precipitation using the various metal nitrates and chloroauric acid as precursors, and effect of water addition on the catalytic activity in CO oxidation was investigated. Among the various supported gold catalysts, Au/$Co_{3}O_{4}$ and Au/ZnO catalysts showed the excellent activity for CO oxidation. Water in the reactant gas had a negative effect on the oxidation activity over Au/$Co_{3}O_{4}$ catalysts and a positive effect on that over Au/ZnO, which means the activity depends strongly on the nature of support. It was also confirmed that no significant change in the particle size of gold was observed after reaction both in dry and wet conditions. This fact suggested that the deactivated catalyst due to a carbonate species could be regenerated by water addition in the reactant gas.

  • The volatile organic compounds(VOCs) have been recognized as a major contributor to air pollution. The catalytic oxidation is one of the most important processes for VOCs destruction due to getting high efficiency at low temperature. In this study, monometallic Pt and bimetallic Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir were supported to ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Xylene, toluene and MEK were used as reactants. The monometallic or bimetallic catalysts were prepared by the excess wetness impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM and BET analysis. As a result, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion than Pt monometallic catalyst. Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst showed the highest conversion on the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. In the VOCs oxidation, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst had multipoint active sites, so it improved the range of Pt metal state. Therefore, bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion of VOCs than monometallic ones. In this study, the use of small amount of Ru, Ir to Pt promoted oxidation conversion of VOCs.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the antioxidative activity on oxidaton of human low density lipoprotein from marine microorganisms. Bacillus sp. RH-5 producing antioxidative activity have been isolated and identified from coast sea in Pusan. Bacillus sp. RH-5 produced at highest level of antioxidative activity in the medium of 1.0% glucose, 0.25% polypepton, 0.25% yeast extract, 0.01% $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ and 50% sea water. The optimal medium pH, cultural temperature and shaking time for the highest production as the antioxidant were 7.0, $30^{\circ}C$ and 48 hr, respectively. The culture broth inhibited the copper catalyzed oxidation of human low density lipoprotein (LDL) at the concentration of 500 and $1,000\;\mu\textrm{g}/ml$ ethylacetate extracts in the presence of $5\;\mu\textrm{M}\;CuSo_4$. The electrophoretic mobility of the LDL oxidized in the presense of $5\;\mu\textrm{M}\;CuSo_4$ was higher than that of native LDL.
