  • OFDM systems are very sensitive to the frequency offset. Therefore, frequency offset estimation is one of the most important procedures in OFDM systems. Ren's periodogram-based frequency offset estimation scheme consists of three steps which estimates the frequency offset accurately. However, there are the drawbacks of the limited frequency offset estimation ranges in the second and third estimation steps of the Ren's scheme. This ranges are insufficient compared with the overall signal bandwidth, making the high complexity of the first estimation step. In this paper, we propose a novel lower complexity frequency offset estimation scheme for OFDM systems which extends the frequency offset estimation range. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a wider frequency offset estimation range and lower complexity than those of the Ren's scheme.

  • In this paper, a low-power frequency offset synchronization structure using CORDIC algorithm is proposed. Main blocks of frequency offset synchronization are estimation and compensation block. In the proposed frequency offset estimation block, implementation area is reduced by using sequential CORDIC, and throughput is accelerated by using 2 step CORDIC. In the proposed frequency offset compensation block, pipeline CORDIC is utilized for area reduction and high speed processing. Through MatLab simulation, function for proposed structure is verified. Proposed frequency offset synchronization structure is implemented by Verilog-HDL coding and implementation area is estimated by Synopsys logic synthesis tool.

  • In this paper, we designed a frequency synthesizer with a low phase noise and fast lock time and excellent spurious characteristics using the offset-PLL(Phase Locked Loop) that is used in GSM(Global System for Mobile communications). The proposed frequency synthesizer has low phase noise using three times down conversion and third offset frequency of this synthesizer is created by DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) to have high frequency resolution. Also, this synthesizer has fast switching speed using DAC(Digital to Analog Converter). but phase noise degraded due to DAC. we improved performance using the DAC noise filter.

  • In this paper, a new data-aided joint phase and frequency estimator, which has very low computational complexity, is proposed and its variances of phase and frequency estimates are derived. To estimate the phase and frequency offset, first of all, the overall observation interval is divided into same length sub-intervals, and then phase estimates are independently computed based on symbols of the each sub-intervals. To be continue the sequence of computed phase estimates, proper integer multiples of $2{\pi}$ are added to (or subtracted from) the computed phase estimates, which is called linearized phase estimate. The phase offset of the proposed joint estimator is estimated by averaging the linearized phase estimates and the frequency offset by averaging the differences between consecutive linearized phase estimates. The variance of the proposed phase offset estimate is same to MCRB of phase if there is no frequency offset, but it is smaller than MCRB of phase if there is frequency offset. However, the variance of the proposed frequency offset estimate is bigger by at least 0.5 dB than MCRB of frequency with the same observation interval.

  • This paper analyze the effect of frequency offset for the IEEE 802.15.4b LR-WPAN(Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network) with 915MHz bandwidth noncoherent DSSS O-QPSK based receiver system, and presents a compensation method with addition of differential filter to the system for compensation of frequency offset problem. DSSS PSSS-ASK and DSSS O-QPSK modulation techniques are accepted within the regularization of IEEE 802.15.4b. These new method can obtain 250kbps transmission rate. The DSSS O-QPSK modulation method that is used in this paper has no BER variation below 40ppm(frequency offset 36.6kHz), but if the offset frequency become high above 40ppm, then the system cannot have stable receiving condition due to worse BER. To solve this problem, we present a more stabilized receiver system at maximum frequency offset ${\pm}80ppm$ using MDDF unti a correlator of DSSS O-QPSK modulator. Moreover computer simulation results will be presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm unde various AWGN and frequency offset environment.

  • The sensorless control based on the flux linkage of PM synchronous motors has excellent position estimation characteristics at low speeds. However, a limitation arises because the integrator of flux estimator is saturated by the DC offset generated during the analog to digital conversion(ADC) process of the measured current. In order to overcome this limitation, HPF with a low cutoff frequency is used. However, the estimation performance is deteriorated (Ed- the verb deteriorate already includes the meaning of 'problem') at high speed due to the low cutoff frequency, and increasing the cutoff frequency of the HPF induces further problems of phase leading and initial starting failure at low speeds. In this paper, the cutoff frequency of HPF was synchronized to the operation frequency of the motor: at low speeds the cutoff frequency was set to low in order to reduce the phase leading of the estimated flux, and at high speeds it was set to high to raise the DC offset removal performance. As a result, the operating range was increased by 200%. Furthermore, a phase compensation algorithm is proposed to reduce the phase leading of the HPF to less than 1.5 degrees over the full operating range. The proposed sensorless control algorithm was verified by experiment with a PM synchronous motor for a washing machine.

  • A new frequency offset estimator using low cross-property of PN sequences is proposed in the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) uplink systems. Simulation results show that the proposed estimator improves the mean square error (MSE) performance compared to conventional estimator [2] where each user have both different timing offset and different frequency offset. In addition, the MSE performance is improved as the length of PN sequence increases.

  • Computed radiography (CR) systems, which convert an analog signal recorded on a cassette into a digital image, combine the characteristics of analog and digital imaging systems. Compared to digital radiography (DR) systems, CR systems have presented difficulties in evaluating system performance because of their lower detective quantum efficiency, their lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and lower modulation transfer function (MTF). During the step of energy-storing and reading out, a baseline offset occurs in the edge area and makes low-frequency overestimation. The low-frequency offset component in the line spread function (LSF) critically affects the MTF and other image-analysis or qualification processes. In this study, we developed the method of baseline correction using mathematical morphology to determine the LSF and MTF of CR systems accurately. We presented a baseline correction that used a morphological filter to effectively remove the low-frequency offset from the LSF. We also tried an MTF evaluation of the CR system to demonstrate the effectiveness of the baseline correction. The MTF with a 3-pixel structuring element (SE) fluctuated since it overestimated the low-frequency component. This overestimation led the algorithm to over-compensate in the low-frequency region so that high-frequency components appeared relatively strong. The MTFs with between 11- and 15-pixel SEs showed little variation. Compared to spatial or frequency filtering that eliminated baseline effects in the edge spread function, our algorithm performed better at precisely locating the edge position and the averaged LSF was narrower.

  • This paper investigates the multifarious nature of the long-term evolution (LTE) scheme and that of the modified LTE scheme for symbol timing synchronization (STS). This investigation allows us to propose a new replica correlation-based STS scheme to overcome the inherent weaknesses of the other two schemes. The proposed STS signal combines a gold sequence and a half sine wave in the time domain, whereas conventional STS signals specify either binary sequences or complex sequences in the time domain or in the frequency domain. In the proposed scheme, a sufficient correlation property is realized by the gold sequence, and robustness against the frequency offset (FO) is achieved through the sine wave. Compared to the existing LTE-related schemes, the proposed scheme can better achieve immunity to FO and reduction in detector complexity, as well as a low peak-to-average power ratio and a low detection error rate. Performance evaluations through analysis and simulation are provided in the paper to demonstrate these attributes.
