  • In this paper, MEMS embedded system design implemented the sensor events via analyzing the characteristics that dynamically happened to an abnormal status in power IoT environments in order to guarantee a maintainable operation. We used three kinds of tools in this paper, at first Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology which is a suitable protocol that provides a low data rate, low power consumption, and low-cost sensor applications. Secondly LSM6DSOX, a system-in-module containing a 3-axis digital accelerometer and gyroscope with low-power features for optimal motion. Thirdly BM1422AGMV Digital Magnetometer IC, a 3-axis magnetic sensor with an I2C interface and a magnetic measurable range of ±120 uT, which incorporates magneto-impedance elements to detect the magnetic field when the current flowed in the power devices. The proposed MEMS system was developed based on an nRF5340 System on Chip (SoC), previously compared to the standalone embedded system without bluetooth technology via mobile App. And also, MEMS embedded system with BLE 5.0 technology broadcasted the MEMS system status to Android mobile server. The experiment results enhanced the performance of MEMS system design by combination of sensors, BLE technology and mobile application.

  • Fault management design of the satellite describes preparations for failures which can occur during operational phase. Fault management design contains detection and isolation function of anomaly, and also it contains function to maintain the satellite in safe condition until the ground station finds out a cause of failure and takes a countermeasure. Unlike normal operation, safing operation is automatically performed by Power Control and Distribution Unit and Integrated Bus Management Unit which loads Flight Software without intervention of ground station. Since fault management operation is automatical, fault management logic and functionality of relevant hardware should be thoroughly checked during ground test phase, and error which is similar to actual should be carefully applied without damage. Verification test for fault management design is conducted for various subsystems of satellite. In this paper, we show the design process of fault management design verification test for Electrical Power Subsystem and Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem of Low Earth Orbit satellite flight model and the test results.

  • In recent years, embedded mobile systems have been expanding their application domains from embedded portable devices which only execute a specialized application such as MP3 player or digital camcoder to digital convergence devices which execute more complicated applications converged various functionalities such as video and audio play, digital dictionary, DMB, games, phone, etc. As it requires the increasing hardware performance such as more faster CPU and more larger RAM, display, disk size, it has brought about a corresponding increase in power consumption. However, coupled with relatively small gains in battery capacity over recent years, the importance of software architecture including intelligent power management has become paramount. In this paper, we have ported UbiFOSTM with energy saving techniques on the ARM9-based MBA2440 platform. For energy savings, we adapted the dynamic power management and the device power management schemes based on monitoring workload. Experimental results with some well-known applications show that proposed low power technique could save energy up to 24 %.

  • In this paper, we propose a CPLD low power algorithm considering the structure. The proposed algorithm is implemented CPLD circuit FC(Feasible Cluster) for generating a problem occurs when the node being split to overcome the area and power consumption can reduce the algorithm. CPLD to configure and limitations of the LE is that the number of OR-terms. FC consists of an OR node is divided into mainly as a way to reduce the power consumption with the highest number of output nodes is divided into a top priority. The highest number of output nodes with the highest number of switching nodes become a cut-point. Division of the node is the number of OR-terms of the number of OR-terms LE is greater than adding the input and output of the inverter converts the AND. Reduce the level, power consumption and area. The proposed algorithm to MCNC logic circuits by applying a synthetic benchmark experimental results of 13% compared to the number of logical blocks decreased. 8% of the power consumption results in a reduced efficiency of the algorithm represented been demonstrated.

  • Power management is still an important issue in embedded environments as hardware advances like high-performance processors. Power management methods such as DVFS control CPU frequencies in an adaptive manner for efficient power management in polling-based I/O programs such as network communication. This paper presents the problems of the existing power management method and proposes a new power management method. Through this, it is possible to reduce electric consumption by increasing the polling cycle in situations where the frequency of data reception is low, and on the contrary, in situations where data reception is frequent, it can operate at the maximum frequency without performance degradation. After implementing this as a code layer on the embedded board and observing it through Atmel's Power Debugger, the proposed method showed a performance improvement of up to 30% in energy consumption compared to the existing power management method.

  • Background: On June 18, 2017, Korea's first commercial nuclear reactor, the Kori Nuclear Power Plant No. 1, was permanently suspended, and the capacity of nuclear power generation facilities will be adjusted according to the governments denuclearization policy. In these circumstances, it is necessary to assess the quality of radiation safety management in nuclear power plants in Korea by evaluating the radiation dose associated with them. Materials and Methods: The average annual radiation dose per unit, the annual radiation dose per person, and the annual dose distribution were analyzed using the radiation dose database of nuclear reactors for the last 5 years. The results of our analysis were compared to the specifications of the Nuclear Safety Act and Medical Law in Korea. Results and Discussion: The annual average per unit radiation dose of global major nuclear power generation was 720 man-mSv, while that of Korea's nuclear power plants was 374 manmSv. No workers exceeded 50 mSv per year or 100 mSv in 5 years. The individual radiation dose according to occupational exposure was 0.59 mSv for nuclear workers, 1.77 mSv for non-destructive workers, and 0.8 mSv for diagnostic radiologists. Conclusion: The radiation safety management of nuclear power plants in Korea has achieved the best outcomes worldwide, which is considered to be the result of the as-low-as-reasonably-achievable (ALARA) approach and strict radiation safety management. Moreover, the occupational exposures were also very low.

  • Recent advancement in wireless communications and electronics has enabled the development of low power sensor network. Wireless sensor network are often used in remote monitoring control applications, health care, security and environmental monitoring. Wireless sensor networks are an emerging technology consisting of small, low-power, and low-cost devices that integrate limited computation, sensing, and radio communication capabilities. Sensor network platform for health care has been designed, fabricated and tested. This system consists of an embedded micro-controller, Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver, power management, I/O expansion, and serial communication (RS-232). The hardware platform uses Atmel ATmega128L 8-bit ultra low power RISC processor with 128KB flash memory as the program memory and 4KB SRAM as the data memory. The radio transceiver (Chipcon CC1000) operates in the ISM band at 433MHz or 916MHz with a maximum data rate of 76.8kbps. Also, the indoor radio range is approximately 20-30m. When many sensors have to communicate with the controller, standard communication interfaces such as Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) or Integrated Circuit ($I^{2}C$) allow sharing a single communication bus. With its low power, the smallest and low cost design, the wireless sensor network system and wireless sensing electronics to collect health-related information of human vitality and main physiological parameters (ECG, Temperature, Perspiration, Blood Pressure and some more vitality parameters, etc.)

  • The motion estimation which requires huge computation consumes large power in a video encoder. Although a number of fast-search algorithms are proposed to reduce the power consumption, the smaller the computation, the worse the performance they have. In this paper, we propose an architecture that a low energy management scheme can be applied with several fast-search algorithm. In addition. we show that ECVH, a software scheduling scheme which dynamically changes the search algorithm, the operating frequency, and the supply voltage using the remaining slack time within given power-budget, can be applied to the architecture, and show that the power consumption can be reduced.
