Low level laser has various therapy effects. This paper performed the basic study for fabricating the low level laser therapy apparatus, and one of the goals of this paper was to make this apparatus used handily. The apparatus has been fabricated using the laser diode and microprocessor unit. The apparatus used a 660nm Laser diode for blood stream improvement and was designed for a pulse width modulation type to increase stimulation effects. In result, we could get the light power of 660nm wavelength and the 1~10Hz irradiation frequency could be controlled stably.
Purpose: To provide the basic method for physical therapy to contribute to early stage treatment of a burned patients. We investigated whether or not carbon arc lamp treatment and low level laser one among various laser treatments have the effect of reducing Cytokine, and to elucidate the effect of carbon arc lamp treatment and laser one. Methods: The 6-week old BALB/c types of 92 mice were used for the experimental test, and they were burned with $100^{\circ}C$ water, they were divided into 4 groups in accordance with the method of treatment respectively. And the blood and the tissue from the subject of each group were extracted and analyzed each time after they were cured for 3, 6, 9 days. For the analysis of the results, SPSS statistical program was used in this study. Results: The quantity of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and $IL-1{\beta}$ within the blood of a burned mouse increased more than that of a normal mouse(p<0.01). In only a burned mouse, carbon arc lamp treatment gave the effect on the decrease of $TNF-{\alpha}$ thickness the 6th day to the 9th day(p<0.01). $IL-1{\beta}$ quantity was more decreased than that of control group around the 6th day. In comparison with only a control group, low level laser treatment has more significant effect in decreasing the quantity of $TNF-{\alpha}$ a and $IL-1{\beta}$ than the two different methods(p<0.01). In case that the two treatment methods, carbon arc lamp treatment and low level laser, were executed together, there was the effect of decreasing $TNF-{\alpha}$ until the 6th day(p<0.01). Conclusion: Both low level laser treatment and carbon arc lamp one would be able to have an effect on the inflammation inhibition of burned patients and tissues reproduction. However, it must be also considered for the two treatments to be done at the same time.
Low-level laser therapy including laser acupuncture has been widely used for non-specific chronic low back pain in primary Korean medical clinics. However, there is no critically appraised data regarding which treatment conditions are most effective. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine effective treatment conditions using 12 databases (PubMed, Ovid, CENTRAL, KoreaMed, KMBASE, KISS, NDSL, KISTI, OASIS, CNKI, CiNII, and J-STAGE). There were 1,019 studies retrieved and 13 studies included in this review. It was determined that when the power output was ≥ 50 mW, the beam size was increased to ≥ cm2, the energy dose was increased to ≥ 4 J per point, the treatment interval was increased to ≥ 3 times a week, and the number of treatment sessions was increased to ≥ 10 treatments, these conditions appeared to increased treatment effectiveness.
Objective: As early as 1967, professor Endre Mester's group published the first scientific report concerning the effects of low level laser therapy (LLLT) on the skin of rats. After that, there have been some two thousand research reports from many countries in which the biological effects of low level lasers have been demonstrated. We reviewed some theses about LLLT published in Korea recently, and we make a proposal concerning the new method of study using LLLT in Oriental Medicine. Methods: We have selected 12 medical theses about low level laser therapy published in Korean Oriental Medicine journals recently, reviewed them, and investigated their methods. Results and Conclusion: There were several clinical studies in Korea about hyperlipidemia, hypercholesteremia, hyperfibrinogenemia, hyperlipoproteinemia, headache, dizziness, stroke, pain and numbness published from 1996 to 2000 using LLLT. The number of theses of good quality is showing a tendency to increase, recently. Sooner or later LLLT will be a very useful treatment and we believe that it will be an alternative useful method in Oriental Medical fields. There have been some negative public opinions about LLLT voiced in the Korean Oriental Medical society recently, but we expect a positive re-evaluation of this new treatment within Oriental Medicine in the near future.

Objective : Low level laser therapy(LLLT) is conjugated many different diseases such as skin disease, nervous system disease, cardiovascular disease, etc. This study was tried to survey the conjugation of LLLT in field of ophthalmology, otolaryngology and dermatology of Korean Medicine. Methods : In this study, LLLT deal with the field of ophthalmology, otolaryngology and dermatology was searched at Pubmed and NDSL. We searched Pubmed and NDSL with the title "Laser Therapy and Low-Level" for the last 10 years and analyzed disease, laser type, sample size, effect, journal and year. Results : Using Pubmed and NDSL, 8 treatises were researched. About 8 treatises, 7 treatises were papers in field of dermatology, 1 treatise was ophthalmology. And about 8 treatises, 6 treatises were foreign papers and 2 treatises were domestic papers on clinical application of laser status. Mainly used type of laser was a He-Ne laser and Diode laser. The diseases were ocular hypertension, acne, ulcers in patients with leprosy sequelae, freckles, segmental-type vitiligo lesions, diabetes-linked skin lesion, facial skin melanin and elasticity, atopic dermatitis symptom. As a result, we found that treat group had more improvement than control group in 7 of the 8 treatises, that treat group had no difference control group on effect significantly only 1 treatise. Conclusions: As therapeutic tool, LLLT's application range is very wide in the field of ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, and dermatology. Keep up with the increasing interest of domestic and foreign about laser therapy, clinical tries on the use of laser will be studied steadily. Low level laser therapy has various therapy effects. This paper performed the basic study for developing the Low Level Laser Therapy Equipment for medical treatment. The apparatus has been fabricated using the laser diode and microprocessor unit. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a laser diode, and designed to enable us to control light irradiation time, frequency and so on. In this study, the designed device was used to find out how infrared laser diode affected the collagen formation. For in-vivo test, a round wound 1cm in diameter was cut from the test animal whose epidermal and dermal layers were removed. Test animals were relieved for 24 hours after wounds had been excised and then the infrared laser irradiation group was given irradiation therapy over 9 days one 20 min per day. As a result, More collagenosis occurred in the order of infrared laser irradiation and non-irradiation group. Collagenosis is closely related to wound repair and it was found that infrared laser irradiation groups had more collagenosis and was quicker to recover from wound than non-irradiation group.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on the effects of laser therapy on atopic dermatitis. Methods : We searched papers using pubmed, First search used the keyword "Laser Therapy, Low-level and Atopic dermatitis". Inclusion criteria were last 10 years, RCT, Clinical trial, Human. Second search used the keyword "LLLT and Atopic dermatitis". Inclusion criteria were Human. Third search used the keyword "Laser and Atopic dermatitis". Inclusion criteria was the same as first search. Finally we searched papers using the keyword "Laser and Atopic dermatitis" in NDSL and RISS. Papers not matched with inclusion criteria were excluded. Results : A total 20 studies were found, 14 studies were excluded and 6 studies were selected and analyzed. They turned out to be effective and no serious side-effect, but there was mild side-effect in 2 papers out of 4 papers using high-level laser. Conclusions : Low-level laser and high-level laser therapy, both can be effectively used as an alternative to the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Thus further attention and studies are needed on this topic in order to reduce the side effects and demonstrate the effectiveness clearly.
As technology advances at a rapid rate, innovations in regenerative medicine will eventually include the use of energy-based therapeutics, such as low intensity-pulsed ultrasound stimulation (LIPUs), pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation (PMFs), and low-level laser/light therapy (LLLt) or photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt). Among these treatments, LLLt/PBMt attracted significant attention by the turn of the century, as evidenced by the numerous publications compared to LIPUs and PMFs, particularly for augmented bone regeneration (ABR). This is a testament of how the maturation of technology and scientific knowledge leads to latent compounded applications, even when the value of a technique is reliant on empirical data. This article reviews some of the notable investigations using LLLt/PBMt for bone regeneration published in the past decade, focusing on how this type of therapy has been utilized together with the existing regenerative medicine landscape.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to do numerical analysis of the wavelength dependence in low level laser therapy (LLLT) using a finite element method (FEM). Methods: Numerical analysis of heat transfer based on a Pennes' bioheat equation was performed to assess the wavelength dependence of effects of LLLT in a single layer and in multilayered tissue that consists of skin, fat and muscle. The three different wavelengths selected, 660 nm, 830 nm and 980 nm, were ones that are frequently used in clinic settings for the therapy of musculoskeletal disorders. Laser parameters were set to the power density of 35.7 W/$cm^2$, a spot diameter of 0.06 cm, and a laser exposure time of 50 seconds for all wavelengths. Results: Temperature changes in tissue based on a heat transfer equation using a finite element method were simulated and were dominantly dependent upon the absorption coefficient of each tissue layer. In the analysis of a single tissue layer, heat generation by fixed laser exposure at each wavelength had a similar pattern for increasing temperature in both skin and fat (980 nm > 660 nm > 830 nm), but in the muscle layer 660nm generated the most heat (660 nm ${\gg}$ 980 nm > 830 nm). The heat generation in multilayered tissue versus penetration depth was shown that the temperature of 660 nm wavelength was higher than those of 830 nm and 980 nm Conclusion: Numerical analysis of heat transfer versus penetration depth using a finite element method showed that the greatest amount of heat generation is seen in multilayered tissue at = 660 nm. Numerical analysis of heat transfer may help lend insight into thermal events occurring inside tissue layers during low level laser therapy.
