  • A mobile robot in FMS environment should be able to nevigate itself. Therefore, path planning is necessary for the mobile robot to perform its tasks without being lost. Path planning using a network model gives oprimal paths to every pair of nodes but building this model demands accurate information of environments. In this paper, a method to build a network model using sonar sensors is presented. The main idea is to build a quad tree model by using sonar sensors and convert the model to a network model for path planning. The new method has been implemented on a mobile robot. Experimental results show that the mobile robot constructs an accurate network model using inaccurate sonar data.

  • The purpose of ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) plant control is to provide stable power efficiently by appropriately regulating the seawater flow rates and the working fluid flow rate under conditions of continually changing seawater temperatures. This paper describes digital control of working fluid flow rate based on an adaptive control theory for the "Imari 2" OTEC plant at Saga University. Provisions have been made for linkage between the software of the adaptive control theory and the hardware of the OTEC plant. In implementing the working fluid flow rate control, if persistency of excitation conditions are lost, the algorithm of identification often exhibits bursting phenomena. To avoid this difficulty, the stopping-and-starting rule for identification was derived and was used for the working fluid flow rate control. Satisfactory control performance was then obtained by using this digital control system.ol system.

  • We constructed an eddy current tester as education programs of electronics and computers. The tester is designed based on frequency counting of square-waves digitally, where information of phase is lost, but which is very compact. Main controller of the tester is PIC16HC84A. Other parts, detection-coils, oscillators, and stabilizers are made by us. The tester is able to detect change of order(-5) in waves of 1MHz, whose function is kept in several minutes. The measurement period is 10-20 msec in the several minutes. Using the tester, we observed narrow gaps of copper/aluminum wires, and detected resistivity difference of 1.7 or 2.7 [$10^{-8}$ $ohm^{\ast}m$].

  • Phase retrieval is concerned with the reconstruction of a signal from its Fourier transform magnitude (or intensity), which arises in many areas such as X-ray crystallography, optics, astronomy, or digital signal processing. In such areas, the Fourier transform phase of the desired signal is lost while measuring Fourier transform magnitude (F.T.M.). However, if a reference 'signal is added to the desired signal, then, in the Fourier trans form magnitude of the added signal, the Fourier transform phase of the desired signal is encoded. This paper addresses uniqueness and retrieval of the encoded Fourier phase of a multidimensional signal from the Fourier transform magnitude of the added signal along with the Fourier transform magnitude of the desired signal and the information of the additive reference signal. In Part I, several conditions under which the desired signal can be uniquely specified from the two Fourier transform magnitudes and the additive reference signal are presented. In Part II, the development of non-iterative algorithms and an iterative algorithm that may be used to reconstruct the desired signal(s) is considered.

  • The effect of the wide-bandgap Schottky barrier enhancement cap layer on the performance of metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors (MSMPD's) is presented. Judged by the dc characteristics, no considerable increase in recombination loss of carriers is resulted by the incorporation of the cap layer. However, about 45% of the detection efficiency is lost for the cap-layered MSMPD's even with a graded layer incorporated under pulse operation, and it was found to be due mainly to the capturing and slow release of the photocarriers at the heterointerface. The loss mechanism of the pulse detection efficiency is believed to be responsible for the intersymbol interference and the increased bit-error-rate (BER) observed in MSMPD's when used with a high bit rate pseudo-random-bit-stream (PRBS) data pattern.

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma, when it occurs in the head and neck, is primarily found in children. Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma is rarely seen in the oral lesion, comparing to the embryonal and the pleomorphic variants. This is a report of a case of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in the mandible in a ten-year old girl who complained of a non-painful swelling on the right cheek. The right lower 1st molar was mobile. Her radiographs revealed an extensive radiolucency with somewhat irregular border on the right mandibular ramus. The right mandibular 1st and 2nd molars lost their lamina dura and were floating. CT images revealed smooth-outlined soft tissue mass occupying the pterygomandibular space, the infratemporal space, and the masseteric muscle with thinning and perforation of the right mandibular angle and ramus. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings established the final diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma.

  • The environment and the ecologic balance of the earth had been destructed by both man and ecological catastrophes and are no longer sustainable. We have no future unless we conserve our natural resourses and make efforts to change our basic patterns of consuming, production and recycling. Our earth had been contaminated without our recognition. We became indifferent to environmental problems and even more we hve lost our interest completely. To overcome this period of crisis, the concept of 'green imperative'has emerged. Since design powerfully influences our lives and the environment for good or ill, those at the forefront of design to consumers and the end-users can contribute to the well-being of the people and planet through new awareness of environmental and ecological based design. The spiritual awareness of green design will enrich the work of design through lasting performance of continuty and will make the future work.

  • DMZ is came from the antagonism of ideology of the cold war and will of peace embodiment of Gangwon province, the only divided province in the world, at the time of opening physical distribution transportation time on ground between south and north Korea. Analyze the central plan of Gangwon province that includes Mt. Geumgang sightseeing, the Gyeongwon line and the Donghae line. As regaining the overland route with Eurasian continent that lost because of the division of Korea into north and south, We have lived as people in a island country actually for the last 60 years. we should extend the racial imagination that lean toward the ocean to the continent again. As we present the use of efficient overland distribution transportation that is endowed with the fitness of the Gangwon province's plan to make a new developing opportunity physically and mentally. we would seek the revitalization of Gangwon economy and inter Korean trade.

  • Purpose: Recently, Jiang defines the tradeoff B life to minimize a sum of life lost by preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) contribution parts and sets up an optimal replacement age of age replacement policy as this tradeoff life. In this paper, Jiang's model only considering the known lifetime distribution is extended by assigning different weights to two parts of PM and CM in order to reflect the practical maintenance situations in application. Methods: The new age replacement model is formulated and the meaning of a weight factor is expressed with the implied cost of failure under asymptotic expected cost model and also discussed with one-cycle expected cost criterion. Results: The proposed model is applied to Weibull and lognormal lifetime distributions and optimum PM replacement ages are derived with corresponding implied cost of failure. Conclusion: The new age replacement policy to escape the estimation of cost of failure in classical asymptotic expected cost criterion based on the renewal process is provided.
