  • Nowadays more attention is paid to the developing high efficiency electrical machines for energy saving and protection of natural resources. In general, the electromagnetic losses appearing in electrical machines are widely classified into copper loss, core loss and rotor loss. Particularly, in permanent magnet (PM) machines, core loss forms a larger portion of the total losses than in another machine. So, satisfactory prediction of core loss at the design or analysis stage of PM machines is essential to active high efficiency and high performance. This paper deals with analysis of magnetic field distribution due to geometry of stator core for magnetic core loss calculation of multi-pole PM synchronous machine.

  • Purpose - Relationship between farm and county losses determines whether the county program provides too little, too much, or similar amount of assistance relative to the loss on an individual farm. A review of the literature finds limited analysis of the determinants of this relationship. This paper conducts such an analysis using farm-level yield data. Research design, data, and methodology - Farm-level yield data from Illinois and Kansas farm business management associations are used for to calculate the correlation between farm and county loss and the share of farm loss systemic with county loss, and also for the regression analysis. Results - Average share of farm loss systemic with the county loss lies between 42% and 68%. The correlation between farm and county yield/revenue deviation from expected value is statistically significant in all four models. The coefficient is positive, implying the higher the correlation, the larger the share of farm loss that is systemic with the county loss. Conclusions - The findings of this study are consistent with the existing literature which argues that county variability may not be closely associated with farm variability. The findings of this study thus raise questions about the efficacy of area yield and revenue insurance products in helping farmers manage their risk.

  • Due to the many attractive aspects of DG in the future power distribution system, distribution automation will be a center hub of integration of the distribution system and resources to satisfy the various needs of customers in a competitive and deregulated environment. In this paper, operation strategies are presented which use network reconfiguration of the automated distribution systems with DG as a real-time operation tool for loss reduction and service restoration from the view of distribution operation. The algorithms and operation strategies of an automated distribution system with DG are introduced to achieve the positive effects of DG in distribution systems. A simple case study shows the effectiveness of the proposed operation strategies.

  • In this paper, we aim to estimate two scale-parameters of exponentiated Pareto distribution (EPD) based on lower record values. Record values arise naturally in many real life applications involving data relating to weather, sport, economics and life testing studies. We calculate the Bayesian estimators for the two parameters of EPD based on lower record values. The Bayes estimators of two parameters for the EPD with lower record values under the squared error loss (SEL), linex loss (LL) and entropy loss (EL) functions are provided. Lindley's approximate method is used to compute these estimators. We compare the Bayesian estimators in the sense of the bias and root mean squared estimates (RMSE).

  • This paper investigates bootstrap confidence intervals of the process capability index(PCI) based on the expected loss derived from the empirical distribution function(EDF). The PCI based on the expected loss is too complex to derive its confidence interval analytically, so the bootstrap method is a good alternative. We propose three types of the bootstrap confidence interval; the standard bootstrap(SB), the percentile bootstrap(PB), and the acceleration biasedcorrected percentile bootstrap(ABC). We also perform a comprehensive simulation study under various process distributions, in order to compare the accuracy of the coverage probability of the bootstrap confidence intervals. In most cases, the coverage probabilities of the bootstrap confidence intervals from the EDF PCI turned out to be more accurate than those from the PCI based on the normal distribution. It is expected that the bootstrap confidence intervals from the EDF PCI can be utilized in real processes where the true distribution family may not be known.

  • Optimal routing of distribution networks can be attained by keeping the line power capacity limit to handle load requirements, acceptable voltage at customer loads, and the reliability indices such as SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, and ASAI limits. This method is composed of optimal loss reduction and optimal reliability cost reduction. The former is solved relating to the conductor resistance of all alternative routes, and the latter is solved relating to the failure rate and duration of each alternative route. The routing considering optimal loss only and both optimal loss and optimal reliability cost are compared in this paper. The results showed that reliability cost should be considered as well as loss reduction to achieve the optimal routing in the distribution networks.

  • Entropy is an important term in statistical mechanics that was originally defined in the second law of thermodynamics. In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), maximum product spacings estimation (MPSE) and Bayesian estimation of the entropy of an inverse Weibull distribution (InW) under a generalized type I progressive hybrid censoring scheme (GePH). The MLE and MPSE of the entropy cannot be obtained in closed form; therefore, we propose using the Newton-Raphson algorithm to solve it. Further, the Bayesian estimators for the entropy of InW based on squared error loss function (SqL), precautionary loss function (PrL), general entropy loss function (GeL) and linex loss function (LiL) are derived. In addition, we derive the Lindley's approximate method (LiA) of the Bayesian estimates. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to compare the results among MLE, MPSE, and Bayesian estimators. A real data set based on the GePH is also analyzed for illustrative purposes.

  • Before expanding of distribution automation application to distribution network, we must examine whether there are economical effect. Investment expense for distribution automation can be divided into facility investment expense, maintenance expense, communication expense, investment expense etc. Effect of distribution automation can classify by effect that can convert into money and effect that can not convert into money. Representative effect is outage time decrease effect, distribution line loss decrease effect, main transformer upload effect, distribution line upload effect, work environment improvement effect of lineman and so on. This paper studied economical effect and break-even Point for investment expense by using data that acquire in KEPCO's distribution network.

  • We consider an M/PH/1 queue with deterministic impatience time. An exact analytical expression for the stationary distribution of the workload is derived. By modifying the workload process and using Markovian structure of the phase-type distribution for service times, we are able to construct a new Markov process. The stationary distribution of the new Markov process allows us to find the stationary distribution of the workload. By using the stationary distribution of the workload, we obtain performance measures such as the loss probability, the waiting time distribution and the queue size distribution.

  • In order to establish the electric distribution system economically and operate efficiently, it becomes important to calculate energy losses of the system more accurately. This importance is not only related for the engineering of utilities' power network but also for the consumers' electric system. The Distribution Loss Factor (DLF) is the fundamental element of calculating the energy losses occurred through the electric system including the electric lines and equipments. Up to now, the DLF is calculated by empirical formulas using the correlation between the DLF itself and Load Factor. However, these methods have some limitations to reflect the various characteristics of the system and the load. In this regard, the novel method proposed here is developed to yield more accurate result of DLF which actively interacting with the characteristics and load patterns of the system. The improvement of accuracy is very significant according to the results of verification presented at the end of this paper.
