Recently, there have been frequent occurrences of ground sink in the urban area, which have resulted in human and material damage and are accompanied by economic losses. This is caused by artificial factors such as soil loss, poor compaction, horizontal excavation due to the breakage of the aged sewage pipe, and lack of water proof at vertical excavation. The ground sink can be prevented by preliminary restoration and reinforcement through exploration, but it can be considered that it is not suitable for urgent restoration by the existing method. In this study, a model experiment was carried out to simulate the in-ground cavities caused by groundwater flow for developing non-excavation urgent restoration in underground cavity and the range of the relaxation zone was estimated by detecting the around the cavity using a relaxation zone detector. In addition, disturbance region and relaxation region were separated by injecting gypsum into cavity formed in simulated ground. The shape of the underground cavity due to the groundwater flow was similar to that of the failure mode III formed in the dense relative density ground due to water pipe breakage in the previous study. It was confirmed that the relaxed region detected using the relaxation zone detector is formed in an arch shape in the cavity top. The length ratio of the relaxation region to the disturbance region in the upper part of the cavity center is 2: 1, and it can be distinguished by the difference in the decrease of the shear resistance against the external force. In other words, it was confirmed that the secondary damage should not occur in consideration of the expandability of the material used as the injecting material in the pre-repair and reinforcement, and various ground deformation states will be additionally performed through additional experiments.
In 2010, large areas of European airspace were closed by the volcanic ash generated by the eruption of Icelandic volcano and it disrupted global trade, business and travel which caused a huge economic damage on the air transport industry. This brought concerned about the economic impact by the eruption of Mt. Baekdu volcano. In this paper, we analyze the affected areas of the air transport industry were decided by calculating the PM10 density of volcanic ash changed over time and by determining the safe upper limit of ash density in their airspace. We separate the sales in the air transport industry according to each airline, airport, and month to estimate the direct losses when all flights inside a restricted zone were canceled. Also, we estimate the indirect losses in regional output, income, and value-added of the different major industries using interindustry (input-output) analysis. There is no direct damage from VEI 1 to VEI 5. But when VEI is 6, all flights to and from Yangyang airport will be canceled due to the No Fly Zone. And some flights to and from the airports Gimhae, Ulsan and Pohang will be restricted due to the Time Limited Zone. When VEI is 7, Yangyang, Gimhae, Ulsan, Pohang and Daegu airports will be closed and all flights will be canceled and delayed. During this time, the total economic losses on the air transport industry are estimated at 8.1 billion won(direct losses of about 3.55 billion won, indirect losses of about 4.57 billion won). Gimhae international airport accounted for 92% of the total loss and is the most affected area according to the volcanic ash scenario of Mt. Baekdu.
By the revision of the Commercial Code of Korea in 1991 and 2007, some provisions for the regulation of Time Charterparty have been introduced into our own maritime law system. But, those provisions are in their nature mainly the reproduction of the provisions prescribed in the standard forms of time charterparty which are widely used, such as BALTIME Charter and NYPE Form, and the subject matters of their regulation are restrictive, so that the applicability of the provisions is not desirable. The cargo is lost or damaged, the cargo owner should seek compensation form, or sue, the carrier as, traditionally, under the COGSA, the cargo carrier is responsible for loss of damage of cargo. However, it is difficult to determine who is the responsible carrier under charters. There is no test to determine the carrier, but the courts in every country generally consider the bill of lading. Although the master has general authority to sign bills of lading on behalf of the shipowner, he can also sign bills of lading for, and on behalf of, the charterer. In this case, the charter is considered the carrier. Furthermore, the charterer is authorized to contract with third parties on behalf of the shipowner and, as such, the responsible carrier is the shipowner. Therefore, when determining the carrier we should examine carefully the all factors and the circumstances surrounding the case. Also, negligence of a captain of a time-chartered ship causing damages to a third party. It will analyze the legal character of a time-charter contract, review judicial precedents on time-charter. The Inter-Club Agreement was drawn up and is intended to be a somewhat easier way of allocating liability for cargo claims between owners and charterers and, although there is still scope for disputes to arise, the Inter-Club Agreement does in fact to some extent make the allocation of liabilities for cargo claims easier. Finally, it will also make legislative suggestions to resolve complex issues involving maritime transportation contracts under the current Commercial Code.
Objective: During cryopreservation process, cold shock and cryo-injury affect the fertilizing capacity of the sperm by damaging cell membranes with loss of functional integrity. A longstanding concept for preventing the cryo-damage is to stabilize the plasma membrane by incorporating cholesterol. This study was to determine the effects of cholesterol in freezing media on the motility and functional integrity of human sperm after cryopreservation. Methods: Control group (non-cholesterol treated) and different concentrations of cholesterol-treated sperm (14 healthy males) were frozen and thawed. After freezing and thawing of sperm, the quality of sperm was evaluated by sperm analysis, acrosome reaction test and sperm chromatin structure assay. Results: When human sperm were incubated in sperm freezing medium (SFM) containing $0.5{\mu}g$ cholesterol and then freezing/thawing, the motility of sperm have significantly improved compared to those untreated cholesterol ($33.46{\pm}1.48%$ vs. $30.10{\pm}1.07%$, p<0.05). The rate of calcium ionophore-induced acrosome reactions in post-thawed sperm was significantly higher than that ($53.60{\pm}1.60%$ vs. $47.40{\pm}1.86%$, p<0.05) in SFM containing cholesterol. Sperm chromatin structure assay revealed that DNA damage to the sperm in the cholesterol-treated group was lower than that of non-treated group. Conclusion: These results suggest that increased cholesterol content of sperm plasma membrane by supplementation of cholesterol in SFM improves sperm motility, capacitation status, and DNA integrity. Therefore, addition of cholesterol into SFM could be a useful for protecting human sperm from cold shock and cryo-injury during cryopreservation.
The current patent system is more often used for defensive purposes to exclude others' use or as a means to hold unfair strong positions in negotiations rather than for the original purpose as the dissemination and active use of useful technology. An injunction together with a damage is an important remedy for patent infringements. However, unlike a claim for damages, injunctions do not require the subjective requirement of intent and negligence or the occurrence of loss. If the validity of the patent and the fact of infringement are confirmed, automatically injunctions are issued without consideration of other circumstances. So a patent holder would exclude others' use and have a powerful position in negotiations because of injunctions for patent infringements. Therefore, those injunctions for patent infringements should be flexibly restricted according to cases under the premise to ensure fair compensation for the patent owner, rather than absolutely admitting injunctions for patent infringements like now. If then, it would serve the use of a useful technology and industrial development as the purpose of the patent system. First of all, judgments for preliminary injunctions should be strict and by deliberate decision on the merits permanent injunctions should be determined. In addition, it is needed that court's discretion possible to considerate 'the need for an injunction'. When the courts judge 'the need for an injunction', 'whether a patent holder has implemented a patent invention, the possibility of monetary compensation and the ability of the infringer for damages, a patent holder's intent to license and whether an injunction has been used as a weapon of negotiation, the proportion of patent technology in the entire products, the characteristics of patent technology and the possibility of patent invalidity, the competitive relationship for market share, the public interests and gains and losses between the parties and so on' should be considered. After these judgements, if 'the need for an injunction' is not approved, a patent owner would be protected by post-monetary compensation. However, because damages are related to illegal conducts in the past, in the case that an injunction is restrained, measures to ensure the legal implementation in the future are needed. It is primarily desirable that reasonable royalty is estimated throughout private negotiations between parties, but if agreement between the parties does not occur, patent owner should be able to claim the royalty for future.
Slope failures in forest roads often result in social and economic loss as well as environmental damage. This study was carried out to assess susceptibility of slope failures of forest roads in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do where many slope failures occurred after heavy rainfall in 2013 using GIS and logistic regression analysis. The results showed that sandy soil (6.616) in soil texture type had the highest susceptibility to slope failures while medium class (-3.282) in tree diameter showed the lowest susceptibility. A error matrix for both slope failure and non-slope failure area was made and a model was developed showing a classification accuracy of 74.6%. Non-slope failures area in the forest roads were classified mostly in the range of >0.7 which was higher values than the classification criteria (0.5) used by the logistic regression model. It is suggested that considering forest environment and site factors related to forest road failures would improve the accuracy in predicting susceptibility of slope failures.
The objective of this study was to develop an efficient control method for the Alella macrotrachelus parasitic cultured black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli utilizing the superior osmoregulatory ability of the host fish. The average number of the parasites on a fish was 5 worms (all female), which were attached to the cartilage of gill filament by their bulla. Morphologically, the parasite was tripartite with each length of $1822.1{\pm}521.5{\mu}m$ for the trunk $1825.0{\pm}495.8{\mu}m$ for the cephalothorax, and $134.2{\pm}43.1$ for the bulla. In histological observations, it was found that the female parasite took gill lamellae. Damage and loss of gill lamellae by the parasite caused hemorrhage and anemia in the fish. All parasites died within 48 hours by osmotic shock of freshwater or $5{\sim}15\%_{\circ}$ seawater treatment. These results suggest that Alella macrotrachelus could be controled by hyposmotic treatment.
Excessive occlusal wear results in unacceptable damage to the occluding surfaces, and can cause pulpal injury, occlusal disharmony, impaired function, and aesthetic deformity. Patients with severely worn dentition need to be classified as several categories relative to the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and the interocclusal distance for the prosthetic space. When treating patients classified as those who have excessive wear without loss of occlusal vertical dimension but with limited space, we could consider treating them at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion. Treatments at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion may provide stability, given that the amount of its increase was minimal, and a perfected occlusion was achieved after enough stabilization period. A 50-year-old male visited the department of Prosthodontics in Yonsei University Dental Hospital with the chief complaint of worn teeth on lower anterior area. Reconstruction at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion was planned. After the compatibility of the new vertical dimension of occlusion had been confirmed under interim fixed restorations, definitive fixed restorations composed of full-contour monolithic zirconia prostheses were placed. This case presents that a satisfactory clinical result was achieved by restoring the worn dentition at an increased vertical dimension of occlusion with an improvement in esthetics and function.

The Hygrothermal aging of the laminates of $Avimid^(R)$ K3B/IM7 in $80^{\circ}C$ water was studied as a function of immersion time prior to forming microcracks. The factors causing the $80^{\circ}C$ water to degradation of the laminates could be the degradation of the matrix toughness, the change in residual stresses or the interfacial damage between the fiber and the matrix. The times to saturation in $80^{\circ}C$ water for the laminates and for the neat resin were 100 hours and 500 hours. After 500 hours aging of the neat resin, the glass transition temperature was changed less than 1% by DSC test, and the weight gain was 1.55% increase with the diffusion coefficient $7\times10^{-6}m/s^2$ and the fracture toughness was decreased about 41%. After 100 hours fully saturated aging of the ${[+45/0/-45/90]}_s$ K3B/IM7 laminates in $80^{\circ}C$ water, the weight gain was 0.41% increase with the diffusion coefficient $1\times10^{-6}m/s^2$. In 100 hours, the loss of the fracture toughness of the laminates was 43.8% of the original toughness by the microcracking fracture toughness criterion. Therefore, the main factor to degrade the microcracking toughness of the laminates could be the degradation of the matrix fracture toughness.
We investigated the neuroprotective effect of an ethanol extract from Asparagus cochinchinensis (AC) against glutamate-induced toxicity in the HT22 hippocampal cell, which is an ideal in vitro model for oxidative stress. The neuroprotective effects of AC in HT22 cells were evaluated by analyzing cell viability, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), flow cytometry for cell death types, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondria membrane potential (MMP), and Western blot assays. In the cell death analysis, AC treatment resulted in significantly attenuated glutamate-induced loss of cell viability with a decrease in LDH release. AC treatment also reduced glutamate-induced apoptotic cell death. In the ROS and MMP analysis, AC treatment inhibited the elevation of intracellular ROS induced by glutamate exposure and the disruption of MMP. In oxidative stress-related proteins analysis, AC treatment inhibited the expression of poly ADP ribose polymerase and heme oxygenase-1 by glutamate. These results indicate that AC exerts a significant neuroprotective effect against glutamate-induced hippocampal damage by decreasing ROS production and stabilizing MMP. Thus, AC potentially provides a new strategy for the treatment of oxidative stress-related diseases.
